I need an intervention

I usually have 10-15 boxes of cereal at home. There are 2 shelves for storage, and usually I only allow 4 open boxes at a time. Otherwise the kids will open each and every box, have one bowl, and not touch it again. So to entice them to eat what they open, I buy a new box of something they REALLY want, and they have to finish some other ones to open it ;)

That is the only thing I stock up on like that though, so no intervention needed here :goodvibes

I have the same problem but it's usually with pasta and sauce. Anytime I see pasta for like 75 or 80 cents I buy a ton. Recently I've been trying the "no buy" thing and eating all my food that I bought on sale and stocked away. I had a ton of meals already in my cabinet! But I still can't resist if I see a good sale!

That's funny I was just saying that if we had a nuclear war, my neighbors could all come to my house for cereal (and to wash their hair since I also seem to horde shampoo), lol. Cereal usually has a year epiration date so you're pretty safe buying ahead.

I try to only buy "multi purpose" cereals, such as rice crispies, and chex so I can make rice crispie treats and monkey munch. The more cereal I have the less people eat it. I hate that.

Last week Shaw's had Kellogg's cereals 10 for $25.00 w/$10 off on a decent variety... pantry was getting a bit low... great time to stock up... and luckily there was a coupon machine nearby spitting out $1 off of 2... stood there for a while... got 10 for $10, went through line 2x... must have spent almost $50 for cereal but now we've got the pantry replenished for the winter. Luckily the kids eat it for breakfast, snacks and sometimes an additional meal. We'll even take a few boxes w/us on vacation since they'll probably be at least $4+ each (especially since we don't have to worry about paying for luggage).
W/the cereal choices I know that they'll get some decent nutrition and I'm saving too...
Glad I waited for the sale since DD was starting to say... why don't you just buy it at Costco.... nah, I'd rather wait lol

Hope those deals continue for next weekend. Our Girl Scout troop does a cereal drive every year to support their schools' breakfast programs. The better the deals, the more cereal we collect!

15 boxes of cereal doesn't last very long here.... I think at one point (because of the sales you're mentioning) we had almost 30 boxes.

DH goes through at LEAST 1 box a week... more like 2. I occassionally eat some and our babysitter eats it and sometimes has her daughter who has a bowl for breakfast, too.

15 boxes would disappear here. I just looked in our cereal cabinet (yes, I have an entire cabinet dedicated to cereal) and almost had a heart attack that we are down to 7 boxes. Hopefully it goes on sale soon! :rotfl:

Just a reminder that your local food pantries would love some of this stuff:) Just be sure that it hasn't expired...Every couple of months I go through my cabinets and put together a box for the pantry of stuff that I haven't been able to use or know that I won't use in the very near future, funny how I buy pickles and jar spaghetti sauce and never use the stuff:laughing:
