I feel I'm posting too much, since I can't use the search engine. Anyway, I'm really lost about what to do at the Nassau stop. I've downloaded the Cruise guide, read Disney's excursion page, and tried to find as much info as I can. I really need some first hand experiences rather than the generic guides on what to do. My kids are 8 and 6, and I'll have my parents who are in their 50's. My husband will be with us as well. We don't mind splitting up. We're more beach people, and they'd rather see the sights of Nassau maybe. Anyway, I figure will spend 1/2 day at island, then back on the ship. Any suggestions? Any of the tours worth the money? Any positive feedback on Paradise Island Beach? Can I not check out the Atlantis Casino with kids in tow? How do you get to the hotel? How do you get anywhere else in Nassau and where do you even go?
Thanks

Hi,

One more stop on the internet that you may want to try that will tell you what's there, what to do and give you a map is www.Bahamas.net.
That's the site I used the first time I went to the Bahamas to gain information. Other than that, I can't tell you to much about the Disney excursions (though I am sure some here can) as I like to do things on my own. Two of the Disney beach excursions that are offered that you may want to think about is:
Atlantis at Paradise Island (which is the largest casino and nicest resort on the island) -no kids are allowed in the casion area- If you go to the casino on your own, you probably won't be able to go to their private beach and you can either take a taxi through Nassau to get there (which only takes a 10-15min. ) or a boat that will take a little longer.
Also their is: Blue Lagoon. I went to Blue Lagoon for my swim with the Dolphins encounter, but they also have great little incove beach that has prestine water and a great view of not only the ocean but of the dolphins too! :)
Nassua is easy to see on your own as the shopping is within walking distance from the ships or you can take a taxi (if you really need it) or a even horse and buggy will be happy to give you a tour around.
Hubby and I did all of our shopping at Nassau within two hours and were back on the boat by lunch time on Monday, so enjoy....

We just returned from a Wonder cruise. Check-out my trip report, "Wonder 1/17/02 with Rent-A-Kid".

We did a Carriage Ride Tour of the downtown area (20 minutes),
Dolphin Swim program at Blue Lagoon and shopping at Del Sol. People really hate Nassau, but I think they've cleaned things up since the first time we visited about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I really did enjoy our time there. Since you are beach people, I can't say anything about the beaches, but Atlantis has beautiful pools and water park.

Hope this helps.
Tina:)

If you are a beach person and want a flexible schedule, you may want to check out the public beach at Paradise Island. You can take a cab there for $4 to $5 each way, and you can use the restrooms at the hotel next door. The beach isn't usually too overly crowded, and it's a nice place to spend some relaxing time. There are vendors selling trinkets and drinks, but they won't bother you if you politely decline.
