I need advice from DVC experts!

Hope I don't make this more complicated than it really is!

We own at SSR, Dec UY. Will be calling to book some late Dec 2009 dates later this month. Although we have 2008 UY points available, I believe MS will take the points out of our 2009 UY. Is that correct? Is there a way to use the 2008 points for that reservation? If I "banked" the # of points I'll need would they use those? Is there any consequence to using next year's points when you still have current year's available?

Every time I think I've really got the hang of this DVC thing, I realize I'm not even close!!! Thanks for any help!

Yes, you would have to bank your '08 points into the '09 UY to use them for a December '09 reservation.
MS should first use your banked points for your '09 reservation, but I would ask them (MS) to double-check they used your banked points. And, of course, check your online statement.

If you do not bank before the reservation, you may find yourself "having" to use those points by Nov'09. You will remain in your banking window for a while. If you bank after your reservation, you would have to use those banked points for another trip ending before December '10

I always make sure they take the banked points first, sometimes you get a CM that is like "Duh, of course I took the banked points, do you think I'm stupid."

I also know my point totals for the post reservation point recap.

If you have multiple resorts it helps if you are in the 7 month period to tell them which ones to use. When I switched a SSR to BCV at 7 months, they initial took my banked points from VB(which I was going to use at my 11 month for Easter).

Thanks for the replies! I do plan to take an October trip so I guess I need to get that reservation made; then I will bank what's left. We do only have one contract -- I'm not sure I could ever figure out how to juggle multiple contracts/resorts!
