I Need A Time Machine For My New Itinerary Thru Delta!

I booked Delta out of Wilkes Barre/Scranton for our December trip last month (leaving the 7th and returning the 16th). After reading some threads about airlines changing flight schedules, I checked my itinerary on Delta.com to see if anything changed.....

Originally we were flying into Atlanta with a 1 hour layover and arriving at MCO at 9:30 PM. My new itinerary has us flying into Cincinatti, then into Atlanta, and then on into Orlando. The only problem: our Atlanta flight departed for Orlando 2 hours before we arrived!! Unless we travelled back in time, it wasn't going to work!

Needless to say, I called and changed flights, which actually will give us a whole half a day more at Disney. The operator told me that Delta changes their schedule about 4 times a year, so it is entirely possible that we will be on different flights in December.

I got a good rate, and (for now) everything is OK. Thank goodness I read these boards or I would have been doing a lot of juggling come December.

This happened to me last year on Delta too. They changed our flights so many times I lost count. We were supposed to be on a connecting flight before the plane landed too. I did ask the Delta rep why they do that and she said they just change the flights and don't check any connections. We actually ended up with pretty decent flight times after the dozen or so changes and for $128 RT it was worth the aggravation and the whole bankrupcty debaucle last year. Just remember to check your flights again before you go. Have a great trip!

Sunday mornings are the time I find the most changes to my Delta itineraries!! I booked my Oct flights back in late Feb/early March. They have changed about 5 times so far, latest change this past weekend. They have changed flight times by 5 mins on occasion. Last two times they have changed the equipment, so had to reassign seats. Since I am a compulsive worrier, I have to check my flights daily, and then call Delta as soon as I see a change. I am giving them no reason to change my seats without my knowledge.

Yeah, I've had this issue with Delta for our upcoming trip to Cancun. *Constant* schedule changes. Once we had a negative layover (arrive one hour AFTER we are supposed to depart for the enxt flight), and another time we were given a three hour layover. I have to keep calling and making them fix it.

Another problem is that since I'm flying on miles and my husband is flying on cash, we're under different reservations. So, every time there is a schedule change, we end up not sitting together anymore. And these flights are so full now that the only way we got to sit together was them making an exception and going ahead and booking us into emergency exit row seats for one of the legs. 2 1/2 months to go... here's to no more changes!!

You can make this situation work in your favor if you do some homework. When you notice a flight change that is over an hour different, or that any connection is no longer a "legal" connection, Delta will re-book you on those days at no charge. So, before you call Delta, take a look at their web site and see if there are better flights such as one that gets in earlier. Then, when you call Delta you will know what your options are and can politely ask them to put you on your desired flight.

Four times a year: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.
