Does anyone have some suggestions?

We can't really afford the Dyson's.

I need something somewhat light and easy to use. Good suction and a flexible hose with a long cord.

Thanks!

I purchased a refurbished Dyson C17 ( I think that's the model #- it's the pet hair vac). It was alot less costly than a new one but has all new parts, I got 5% cash back from Ebates, and free shipping. I've had it for awhile now and I absolutely love it. It also came with lots of attachments and two types of carpet cleaners. Overstock offers a 2-year warranty for less than $40 if you want to be sure you'll be covered in case of an issue. I was nervous about buying a refurb but I couldn't be more pleased with the product and the savings.---Kathy

I gotta agree, look for a referb Dyson. I love my Dyson.... spent the $$$ for new one, but didn't realized how much until we had a bit of a problem with it and had to use our old vac for 3 days. Boy what a difference! I know it already had problems, that's why we needed something new, but wow, the way it moves, the poor suction, everything. After 2 days I told DH he better look at the Dyson or I'm going out to buy a new one (like I could afford the one we got as it was! :>) 10 min later ours was working again....
