I currently have a Canon 4 megapixel digital elph. I'm a (very) amateur photographer, lol. Does anyone have suggestions for a camera that's not too complicated and expensive, but I can still get a little artistic with my photos? Thanks so much. :wizard:

This is a helpful site that will recommend several models based on your answers to a questionnaire: http://www.myproductadvisor.com/mpa/camera/inputSummary.do

A lot of people around here love the Canon S3 IS (or its predecessor, the S2 IS)--great point and shoot camera that offers a lot of manual control if you want to use it that way.

Also, you can always get creative in post processing too.

Happy shopping!

Someone else posted about a week or so ago with the same issue, trying to decide between those 2 cameras. The thread is here: Canon v. Sony

I just got the Canon S3 IS and LOVE it. It's got all the automatic settings, plus it has manual controls, too, for when you're feeling a little more confident about your abilities. I look at it as a step below a digital SLR.

SplshMtn99 and I got our S3's around the same time; here's a thread with some of our pix: S3 pix

I started that other thread that Amy pointed you to. I have been out all weekend comparing and holding the two cameras...
I currently own a Sony and LOVE it.. And the Carl Zeiss lens is wonderful.. however, i want to upgrade my zoom ability.
The Canon S3, and the Sony H2 or H5 are very similar! I again, am feeling partial to the Sony, since that is what i own now.. But, both look great for the money..
There is also a write up on the Sony H2 in this months "digital photographer" magazine.
Good luck - i am sure either is a great choice!

I got the Canon S3 last night. So far everything is great!! Only have used the auto mode so far. I can't wait to get out and take some fall folliage pics. Bought it at Circuit City, on sale for $399.00, they price matched Walmart at $348.00. The shutter lag is so minimal that compared to my old digital, I feel no shutter lag. That is my biggest pet peeve with digital. It has 12x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. It is a 6 mp, which is plenty even for enlargements.

Have fun chosing a camera!!!

Naw, THIS is a big camera (actually, it's a big lens, but you get the idea ;) )

If you're looking for something smaller and similar to what you've used before.. I just bought a Canon A710 IS.. and love it.. slightly bigger than the elph, but smaller.. I came from a Canon G2 down to the a710..

I have the Canon S3 IS, too, and I just love it. I had a S1 IS which my dh uses now.

Be sure to look at www.dpreview.com , too.
