I know a lot about staying on site at disney, but the next trip I make, I would like to stay for a few days on disney and three nights off site in orlando (close to universal). I would like a few suggestions of where to check out. but my biggest question is WHERE DO I STAY WHEN I AM IN THE ST PETES AREA??? I have never stayed out there and I want to do a week this year in a nice, not too expensive, but clean place. preferably around the 1000 to 1500 price mark for the week. there will be four of us staying (2 kids, ages 8 and 10). please help...I have no idea where to stay.

Have you checked Trip Advisor? I get a lot of helpful info there.

Got a little confused by the request...Please correct me if I am misunderstanding...Are you looking for ideas for places to stay in Tampa/St. Petersburg?

Universal is not in that area so I am guessing you are flying into the Tampa airport and driving up to Orlando. Universal is easy to reach from Kissimmee and along the I-4 and Florida Turnpike. There are many good hotels and resorts around there.

As PP stated, TripAdvisor will have some good ideas. And I always stick with the chain hotels for traveling. So, Holiday Inn, choicehotels, Hilton (Hampton)...etc. I don't know the area or attractions you are looking at in St. Petersburg, but I do know that most attractions will have a "we recommend this location for your lodging" either on their website or by a quick phone call.

Hope you get your questions answered. Have a great trip. pirate:

For the Universal area, I would suggest US Cabana Bay Beach resort or the Hyatt Place across the street from US property.

St. Pete - the best hotel is the Loews Don Cesar Resort. A beachside resort from old Florida. Just beautifully done and a very nice beach. The Tradewinds Resort might be another option that is on the beach in St. Pete.

I love love and also recommend Don Cesar. In fact, where are there similar (or SHOULD BE BUILT) don cesar type in that area? The beach there is a++++++.
