hi everyone...i have seen several people mention that they made their own autograph books. this will be a our second trip to the world. so my kids already have the ones from disney....so i thought this year we would make our own ... to have something different! could someone give me a "how to" on how they made theirs....or even pictures would be great! thanks a million

Go to the Creative DISigns section and there are some wonderful DISigners who share their work! L personally LOVE donatalie's work :worship:

Some people print them off on card stock and bind them into a book. Others print them on photo paper and put them in the photo album and take them to the park and later can put the autograph below the picture of the character and the child.

HTH!

I wish I had a photo of mine , but it is packed and ready to go.

All I did was take 12 x 12 card stock and cut it into 4 - 6 x 6 squares. Once I had sevral of those I used a hole punch and punched 3 holes on the left side. I used Ring Clips in the 3 holes and voila!! Done!!

I used chipboard as the cover.

Each character can sign on one side and I will add the photo on the opposite page once it is developed.

Good luck!!

Ditto to donatalie's work! :thumbsup2 Her stuff is amazing. She has a shared file where you can download the pages for autograph books. It can be quite addicting and you will not want to stop making stuff for the trip. I ended up doing autograph books, Epcot passports, T-shirts, and dining invitations for the kids to open up each morning.

I am an avid scrapper but was daunted by the cost and challenge of completing 2 autograph books (1 for each child) prior to leaving on our trip. I opted to purchase inkjet post cards from an office supply store and then use a template within Microsoft Word. I used free clip art available on the internet and positioned it in the template. I printed a black and white copy to make sure that nothing was cut off and then printed 2 copies in full color. Separated the postcards and took them back to the office supply store and had them bound together like a booklet. They turned out really cute and the postcard paper adds to the sturdyness of the book. After the trip I am going to use the cards to make a 8x8 scrapbook of the photos and autographs. I got the idea from this site http://themouseforless.com/downloads/kids/autograph2.shtml They have pre done pages that you can download and print but I have a knack for creating more work for myself. Hence why I made my own. All total I spent maybe 3 hours on the layout and that included searching for images and I think I have 40+ cards per book plus covers and a few extra blank pages. I can't wait to see how they work out in the park. Also the website suggests laminating the pages but I did not as this added extra cost and bulk to the pages. I also thought it would make it harder to sign if you did not have just the "right" marker. PM me and I will send you my word doccument. I would be happy to share...

The one on the right was DS's original book. I purchased a 4x6 artist sketch book from the local Meijer and covered it with Disney scrapbook paper and stickers.

The one on the left is a book that I made for Dneph. I used the blue book as template and created that one out of mat board ( I had Hobby Lobby cut the mat board to size), cardstock, and binding. Again, I covered the book in Disney paper and stickers I had left from our family trip in April.

Both books are approximately 40 pages. I probably should add more, but... I think it depends on how long your trip is...

If your not big into scrapping, I say buy a book and cover it (but DO go into the scrapbook aisle and get the thick, super sticky double-sided tape). It's the easiest way to make a book of your own and it's all you.

Good luck!

I'm going to be going to get some white cardstock to print the pages I got from the DISigns board. Then I think we are going to take them to Kinkos and get them bound.

Here are the ones I just made for my boys. I finished them this morning.

I just cut 2 slightly larger than 4x6 rectangles of chipboard for each book to make the front and back covers. Then I covered them with paper and decorated. Inside I took 50blank 4x6 index cards. I punched holes in those and the covers and put it all on binder rings. Then I tied a bunch of ribbons around the rings. I am hoping the books survive enough to just add pics once we get back. But if not, I'm going to take those cards out and make them new books with the autographs and pics together. Good luck!

I, too, am a scrapbooker and I have made several autograph books for my kids -- from white cardstock pages to pages I've added clipart to. This year I wanted to make something different and went on a search for ideas. I found something here on the DIS but for the life of me I cannot find the original post so I apologize for not being able to give credit where credit is due. :worship::worship:
They used photos of their kids with the characters from past vacations and made a hardcover bound photobook through Shutterfly leaving white space for the characters to sign. It was just the thing I was looking for! It was quick, easy, not too expensive -- they are having a sale right now -- and the books are sturdier than the chipboard ones I've made in the past. My kids have been "reading" them since they arrived last week and we don't go until October!
I will keep looking for the original post and try to link it here because it was such a great idea and they should get the credit! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I just made these for someone on Dis - They are both made with white cardstock which I layered with a colored cardstock as well so you can use a Sharpie and not worry about ink bleeding through. The covers are chipboard on mine as well. I saw that someone posted about using cereal boxes for chipboard - I wouldn't suggest that if you are looking for it to be archival safe. You're better off buying chipboard that is meant for scrapbooking - plus it'll be alot thicker and hold up better.

These autograph books are great! I would love to make a few for our September trip, but need a little help. I have never done scrapbooking before. What is chipboard? Does it look like cardboard? Do you use glue, tape or both? What do I use to layer card stock? Glue or Tape? Thanks for the help.

I am excited to get started. My kids will love these so I hope they turn out okay.

Chipboard is like a heavyweight cardboard. You can purchase plain chipboard pages at any scrapbook store or online. They come in all different sizes. I use spray adhesive to adhere paper to my chipboard covers for books.
