Tonight my DS18 totaled my husband's car!!! He's okay except his neck is sore. The two teenage girls in the car he rear ended are okay. But my son's passenger may have a broken nose. They are taking him to the doctor tomorrow. My son works at a physical therapy clinic so he'll get checked over there tomorrow.

My husband is out of town in Alabama working and my best friend is out on a houseboat somewhere and out of cell phone range so I feel like my best support system is all far away!!!

Just last year we cancelled all but liability on this car (92 Corolla). We just put a brand new battery in it TODAY and a new windshield in it last month! We just bought new furniture so we have two new payments to make in addition to just signing up for two new cell phone plans so we do NOT have money to replace this car!!!

Overall I'm just glad that it wasn't worse. The airbags went off and DS got a ticket for following too close. Just today I was lecturing him on driving too fast and following too close and in his teenage wisdom of knowing all he assured me there was nothing to worry about. :sad2: So in a way I'm trying to think positively and maybe this accident (although its an expensive lesson) will end up saving his life by making him more careful.

My daughter is taking drivers ed right now and wants to quit. She wasn't even in the car but she's traumatized by it all. :worried:

Thanks for letting me "talk" to somebody!

:grouphug: I'm glad to hear there were no serious injuries! It's really scary when your child starts a phone call with "Everybody's OK". Been there, done that, twice. DS18 totalled a '95 Protege year before last (school was cancelled due to a tropical storm, but the football coach scheduled a weight room workout anyway). DS22 totalled a 2004 Mazda3 on I-95 after last year's Ga/Fla game. No one was hurt in either accident thankfully.

Maybe you can tell your daughter that Drivers Ed will teach her how to avoid accidents like this. :grouphug:

So sorry for this to happen. I know you can sometimes talk to a child forever and they just don't get it.

But think of how blessed you are that no one was seriously injured. This sounds very fresh on your plate...perhaps after a few days, you'll be sighing that sigh of relief. Wow. Could have been so much worse!!!

Take care. Hugs!! :grouphug:

:grouphug: Sorry to hear about the accident. Thank goodness that no one was seriously hurt.

Being the mom of a 17 and 19 yr old driver, I SO now how you feel. Knock on wood, I've been fortunate but I still have that fear every time they head out of the driveway.

Thank GOD your son's alright!! :)

Sympathy to you. Hugs too. Try and let it all fall into place ....one day at a time. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry for the trouble, but thank God no one was seriously hurt! What a scary day! :grouphug:

I'm sorry to hear about your car. That stinks.

The next time your son gets in a car he will be the MOST careful driver on the road. :)

Sorry to hear those headaches, Liz. So tough with kids growing up. Vince too, totaled Marie's car, 2 months after getting his license years back. Scary. You have gotten through many tough things in the past, you will again.

OT, how is Laura?

I did the same thing when i was his age--following too closely, rear-ended a 1 ton truck. Thankfully, I was okay, but boy! was that a life-changing experience. I learned that day how quickly an accident can happen and how helpless you can be once it starts. It made me a much more careful driver.

This year, my DS19 pulled out in front of someone and smashed up my car. Injured the other driver. Totally his fault. I can't tell you how many times we had talked to him about driving recklessly. He was just shocked that it happened so fast.

Personally, I think everyone should have a small wreck early in their driving experience to show them how vulnerable they are. Glad your boy survived with only a few bruises. The car can be replaced. I'm sure this will be a lesson learned for him.
