I missed the deep fried Mars Bars at the fair

Just found out they had deep fried butter and mars bars at our local fair. Would have liked to try one although I am not chocolate for dietary reasons.

Run, do not walk away from this "TREAT". I tried a deep fried butter and a deep fried snickers bar last month. My digestive system is still not speaking to me.

Oh I love these things! Every time I go to Cookes of Dublin at Downtown Disney for takeout, I get a DOH bar, which is pretty much the same thing. I can never manage the whole thing, but mmmmmmmm!!!

We try to attend our Maryland Renaissance Festival each fall and they usually have an assortment of interesting new foods to try incl. fried candy bars, twinkies and oreos . Our grands have introduced me to these delicacies and thankfully a small taste once a year satisfies my taste buds.

DALLAS - September is just around the corner, and that means just about everything you can put in your mouth is going to be dipped in batter and fried in hot oil.

Judges have chosen the eight finalists for Big Tex Choice Awards, informally known as the Fried Food awards, for the 2010 State Fair of Texas.

This year's entries include two alcoholic treats: Deep Fried Frozen Margarita and Fried Beer.

Here are the finalists, in no particular order:

Deep Fried S’mores Pop-Tart®: Pop-Tart® with a sensational chocolate, peanut butter, s’mores flavor is lightly battered & deep fried. Hot out of the fryer the sinfully diet-busting treat is drizzled with chocolate syrup and topped with whipped cream.

Deep Fried Frozen Margarita - Sweet & creamy funnel cake batter is deliciously coupled with margarita ingredients. Fried, dusted with a tangy lemon/lime mixture and lightly spritzed with south of the border flavor, it’s served in a salt rimmed glass. 21 and over, ID required.

Fernie’s Fried Club Salad – Super colossal 12” spinach wrap surrounds generous layers of juicy diced ham & chicken, shredded iceberg, crunchy carrot strips, ripe cherry tomatoes, shredded sharp cheddar and hickory smoked bacon. Deep fried until lightly crispy; topped with deep-fried sour dough croutons on a stick & served on a bed of shredded romaine lettuce.

Fried Beer™ - Beer-filled pretzel pocket is deep-fried to a golden brown. One bite and the escaping beer serves as a dipping sauce. 21 and over, ID required.

Fried Chocolate – A white chocolate mini candy bar + a cherry are stuffed into a mouth-watering brownie, dipped into delicious chocolate cake batter & deep fried to perfection. The finished product has a warm just-out-of-the-oven taste! Topped with powdered sugar and a rich cherry sauce and served with chocolate flavored whip cream.

Fried Lemonade – Lemon flavored pastry is made from Country Time® lemonade. First baked, then fried, this taste tempting treat is glazed with a mix of lemonade, powdered sugar, and lemon zest.

Texas Fried Caviar – Texas version of a southern good luck staple. Black-eyed peas are fried and laced with special spices blended with Old Bay® Seasoning and are available in regular or spicy.

Texas Fried Frito Pie – A generous portion of savory Texas born chili accented with a hint of sharp cheddar encased in everybody’s favorite corn chip. Lightly battered and fried to a golden brown perfection. With its smooth medley of hot, meaty, crunchy, salty, cheesy, oozing goodness; “Texas Fried Frito Pie” transports you back to the golden age of Fair Food.

Each year, two big winners are chosen: one for Most Creative, and one for Best Taste.

The winners will be chosen by the lucky private panel of judges on Labor Day. The State Fair starts Sept. 24 and runs through Oct. 17.

I can't even begin to imagine deep fried butter!

I've been to two parties this summer where a friend invited a coworker with his deep fryer. He has made the usual in it -- turkey, chicken wings, and french fries. But this last time he did pickles, funnel cakes, snickers bars, and oreos. I had one of the oreos and it was delicious! Not something you'd want to eat every day, that's for sure.

Probably a good idea you missed it. I can't believe they make crap like this...it makes me sick to even think about it. I'll take the farmers market over the state fair any day.

We eat something similar to a Frito Pie but it's not a Frito Pie, it's called Fiesta and you make it by putting cooked rice on a plate, adding chili to the that and then adding whatever you like on your chili to that, you use Fritos to eat it. So similar to Frito Pie but different at the same time.

My friend tried it she said they put a pat of frozen butter in a thick coating of batter & it kinda tasted like a super buttery biscuit/roll.

I like fried foods as much as the next person, but that list made me feel sick. That's just insane.
