and if I did I know it's my own fault for goofing off.

A long distance friend, someone I don't see very much, sent me an e-mail. She went on and on complaining about everything in her life, (most of her e-mails are full of complaints). Well, after I read it, I clicked on 'reply' and typed a response that wasn't very nice. I did it just to be funny and to give other family members here a good laugh.

Well, I went to click 'backspace' so I could delete it and send a more proper reply. Somehow I hit something, (I still don't know what), and my whole reply disappeared.

My question is this- Is it possible that it got sent to her? Is it possible for an e-mail to get sent without clicking on the 'send' button? Or do you think it just got wiped out?

Please tell me that nothing could get sent without first clicking on the 'send' button!

You probably didn't send it, but it'd be a good time to check your sent items folder!

Would it automatically go into my sent items folder if it was sent, even if I didn't click on the save to sent items folder?

OMG, I feel like such a dork!

Is it in your sent folder? If not, check your draft folder.

I'm afraid that is entirely dependant on how you set up your mail preferences. You should be able to find those preferences (I don't know who your ISP is or how they handle mail), and if in those preferences you've got checked an automatically save option, then you're safe...

The only items in my sent folder are those items that I've put there from incoming e-mails that I want to save, or those items that I checked the 'save' button on when I sent an e-mail. I don't think anything I send would automatically go into my sent folder unless I check the 'save' button. So I think it's possible for me to send something and not have it go in my sent items folder. Does that make sense?

There are no items in the drafts folder.

I know I didn't click the send button, but I don't know where the reply went.

Well, again -- if you are certain you didn't hit "Send" you're safe.

My wife's boss once created a simular prolem. They had recieved an email from a prospective client who really was unrealistic in what they were asking. After a few weeks of back and forth, the prospective clients sent an email which was pretty over-the-top. It was forwarded to her boss so he could be kept apprised of the status of the negotiations... He responded to the office staff along the line of "they must be freakin' nuts!" and other comments definately not fit for DIS. I don't know if it was done on purpose or not, but my wife's boss seemingly confused the "reply" button with the "Reply to All"...

If your computer is anything like my laptop, you probably just deleted everything.

I do technical support for a living, and I still can't figure out what I keep doing to delete the long, thought out posts I write before I hit the Submit button.

I've heard of that happening! Well, I know I didn't click on send, so hopefully it didn't!

The only thing that disappeared was the message I had typed. The e-mail that I was replying to is still there. You can bet I'll think twice before I fool around like that again!
