About a week ago I started feeling tingling in my fingers and feet. I went thru everything I thought it might be, perhaps the way I was sleeping at night, etc. I am 53 and when I had youngest DS 14 years ago I developed gestational diabetes which went away after birth. I was told at the time that I was at risk of developing it later on down the road.
So I logged on web md and start reading my symtoms when it hit me that perhaps diabetes had made another appearance! (Add to this, the fact my mom has it)
When I was pregnant I purchased a One Touch II blood glucose meter, which I still have. I need to go out and get a new battery and lancets, and test strips. I want to start monitoring my glucose level. I do have an appt. with my doctor Nov. 10. but I want to start monitoring NOW. I am going to ask my doctor for an oral glucose test, because I understand it to be more accurate.
My question is: Is there a more accurate, easier to use, less expensive device on the market now to measure blood glucose levels?
If I remember correctly those test strips are not exactly cheap.
Thanks for any help! :)

if you think that you have diabetes ....call your doctor and ask if you can have a blood test RIGHT now and you cna have the results when you go for your checkup......also insurance pays some of the cost on the test strips and I got my tester from the diabetes clinic I had to attend...lancets were like ten dollars for a hundred and the test strips were twenty for a hundred....they are expensive but with insurances co pay it should bring it down....call him tomorrow and ask NOW....don't wait..
I have been type two for the last four months and just attended my last class on diabetes. I learned alot today and hope to be able to keep my sugar under control with no meds.........I wish you luck too

When I took my diabetes education classes I remember that about 25% of those diagnosed with gestational diabetes will eventually have Type 2 diabetes. I just had blood withdrawn recently and hadn't been diagnosed with diabetes, but with high cholesterol. It's really better to get a more finite diagnosis and get tested plus they can test for other things, too, such as triglyceride levels.

Definitely contact your physician/healthcare provider. Your glucose meter might not be accurate and may be outdated, especially after 14 years. There are one's now that a bit more reliable and easier to use.

There are diabetic supplies available online which can be much cheaper than ordering via your local pharmacy. I bought mine's thru MedExpress.
