I dont know if anyone is interested in this, but my kids are starting to ask, "how many more days till Disneyland?" so I made a "countdown the days" Mickey Mouse for them. Its cheap, mommy-made art, but its actually cute and does the trick! Black and white constructin paper, glue stick and sticky notes... and your done! If anyone wants details, post here, and Ill reply. Best for little kids (mine are 6 and 4) older kids might think you're a dorky mom! :mickeyjum

That sounds too cute! I have Mickey post it notes and I am going to do the same. We always keep a countdown calendar on our kitchen chalkboard for special events like birthdays, holidays etc and my kids make countdown paper chains for christmas, where you remove one a night until finally it is christmas eve. Great idea! :sunny:

That sounds so cute! I really feel bad, because I have never really did any countdown things, and now my older kids are getting older. :(
I will have to do it for our next trip. Do you usually do it when the countdown is less than a month? :teeth:

I did one too! I printed a heart paper chain from Nickjr's valentines area. I put a picture of Nemo 7 days from the end (we are going to see Nemo on Ice next week, LOL) and then I drew Mickey at the very end. So my daughter takes a heart off every morning, save me from being asked every hour "Can we go to Disneyland???"

On the actual day we leave, I put a zero. Then counted backwards, and wrote each number on the dates. So they could look 2 weeks before we were to leave and see it said '14'. Then a few days later, it said '11'. Then they didn't have to keep counting the days. They could just look at the calendar and see how many days to go. I put it on the calendars in their rooms, and I will confess, it was on my kitchen calendar too!
Easy, but effective!

Ill try to post a picture... but here are the instructions. Super easy.
Cut three circles from black construction paper. one large for head, two small for ears. I used a small size dinner plate for head template, and a saucer for the two ears. Once you move the ears around a bit to find where they look like Mickeys ears, glue stick them on to the back of the head circle.
Now, look at a picture of mickey and cut a white face for him. Basically, its a heart shape at the top, that goes into a fat cheek shape instead of a point at the bottom. Play around with the placement, then glue it onto the front. He needs some of that black head showing! The hardest part is cutting black and white ovals and circles for his big eyes and figuring out where they look best! Now, get your pack of sticky notes, count how many you need (start at less than a month unless you are truely brave and crazy) and have that many sheets. On the LAST sheet, write "LET'S GO!". The next to last sheet write a one, the next a two and so on until you get to how ever many days you have left to leave. Stick this on where he would have a tongue. I even added some glue to the back so when they rip off sheets the whole pack doesnt fall off. Looking at your picture again, add the sides of the mouth/smile with a big fat black marker. Remember, the sticky note pack is supposed to be a tongue, so you only add the sides of his smile. If you use pink sticky notes that would be best... or you could use white and write the numbers in red. OK, really want to make a tongue? Cute each sticky sheet into a tongue shape!! (I did not do this.)
Its actually really cute and the kids love it and it took five minites or less to make. It would be a GREAT project for the kids to each make for their own rooms if they are older than about 3 1/2 they could do this with your help.
Im an art writer, so I spend my time coming up with stuff like this! Let me know if you try it and what you think!
