So I know I have not been on here in forever. Most of you may not know me as I was one of the teens on these boards way back in 2002-2004. Afterthat I left as most of the teens had moved on to the college board.

Anywho, I am involved in two volunteening programs this summer (one at Zoo Atlanta and one at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta). This week was training at Zoo atlanta and it has been lots of fun. We have had keeper talks, activites, shows and more to get us ready.

Tomorrow I am working my first day at 'Play The Animal Way Day" where all the animals get enrichment (special toys, foods etc.)

It is so fun plus will look great on a college resume.

Does anyone else belong to a volunteening organization?

Or has any questions?

I used to be a volunteen at the hospital.

I volunteer every Tuesday and Thursday at my future place of employment, my mom's job, it's call Child Protective Services or DCFS.

Cool. At the zoo you sign for whenever you want so I am working tomorrow and then next Wednesday. The week after is a Wednesday again and the last two weeks in June I am working Monday and Wednesday. I am working at CHOA every Friday from June 8- August 3.

I vonlunteer at an animal shelter about 8-10 hours a week durning summer and 4-5 during school. I have since Octoer 2005, so i guess a year and a half.

8-12 Sunday and Wednesday mornings, that's me, lol. I'm basically clocked as a regular employ, which makes me happy because most of the volunteers are worthless and require extra help instead of providing it.

Exactly. I've been volunteering at DCFS for almost 3 years now. So yeah, I'm just one of the gang.

Neat.

I wish I had found out about these opportunites forver ago but neither organization advertises the opportunity that well.

I could have volunteered at the zoo for 4 years but because the cut off age is 17 I only get two and half years left.

At the hospital I get 3 more years because the cut-off is 18 as it is only during the summer.

Zoo requirement is at least 1 day (6 hours) per week in the summer and 12 hours per month during school. I plan on doing much more than that though.

I'm more than likely volunteering at a hospital this summer.
I'm going to have to wear a candy striper uniform D:

Last summer, I volunteered in the administration office at a college. I plan on volunteering there again, and at a rec center.

I normally volunteer at an Animal Shelter and then I stock for our local Food Pantry.

How old do you have to be??? I want to do that!!!! You are so lucky! Do you actually interact with the zoo animals?

I volunteer at a senior care facility, and my old elementary school's library. Neither of the jobs I enjoy though, because I'm not passionate about them, and I don't feel like I'm making a difference.

I would love to volunteer at the SPCA, but the nearest one is still too far away for me to make it there on a regular basis.

i've been volunteering at this event which happens at our park every summer called Lark in the Park for the past 3-4 years now.

I belong to my school's leadership team.
I'm supposed to do Peer Helping (watching kids at recess & lunch) but I never show up.
I like to do the special events, and money for charities things better.

My church does bingo at the local nursing home once a month and I help. =]

At the zoo I volunteer at it is 14-17 year olds. First year volunteens (like me) can do exhibit interpretation (help public make connections with the animals), horticulture, enrichment (make toys for the animals), summer safari (kids camp) and special events. Second years can work in the petting zoo, wieland home (small animals like reptiles, prarie dogs, etc.), birds, GLT tracker, animal nutrition kitchen (cut, mix, measure food for animals). Third and fourth years can work with hoofstock, elephants, primates and more dangerous reptiles. For more info, visit http://www.zooatlanta.org and then click on support us then volunteers then volunteens.
