I think I overdid it a bit.

Up Country was just released in paperback, and I hadn't read it before, so ...

and then I read Word of Honor, which was written in the 1980's but which I hadn't read.

I'm on DeMille/Vietnam overload right now.

I loved "Word of Honor". My dad got me into his books with "Charm School", and it's nice to see good ole Garden City described in a book.
Every time I leave LI after visiting, I pass Fort Hamilton and think about that book!

Haven't had the time to get to "Up Country" yet, guess it's time to hit Costco for a few paperbacks for my trip.

I like his stuff, but it can get too intense...especially Up Country. Too much Vietnam for me.

any time he writes about Long Island you know that he's lived here.

I liked his inside joke in Lion's Game where his main character was reading a NY Times review of a movie --The General's Daughter.

my personal favorite though is Rivers of Babylon.

I've got that big DeMille tome that has three books in one and "Babylon" is the last one. Still haven't finished it! I should, but I try to read all three in a row and after "Cathedral" I can't get into the last one. Guess I should start with the last book first next time.

My transplanted state gets a lot of mentions thanks to Tom Clancy. You know he's a Maryland boy, but in an effort to maintain storyline, he's had minor location discrepancies. I could tell he didn't hit my stomping grounds TOO much, but did have more than passing information.
