I just got a Roku for my birthday and I love it! I just wanted to share because I know others are thinking about it too. We have satellite TV, 2 boys 5 and 11 and I can easily see ditching the satellite or paring it down. I had Amazon prime anyway so now I can watch a lot of TV whenever I want for the price of the Roku. It is so nice to be able to put on my son's favorite cartoons when he wants to watch them, instead of scrolling around hoping it's on. When my husband want to talk, I just pause what I'm watching, listen, then go back to my show. No commercials either.

We did away with our AT&T UVerse about 18 months ago, and have been using the Roku solely since then. I love it also! Has saved us SOOO much money, and I really like that I can sit down during the day, pick a 1-hour show to watch in my free time, and be done with it.

We do pay for Netflix, but then use PlayOn, Hulu, Amazon Prime (have been buying that for few yrs for the free shipping, so just use the shows as an extra perk) also.

I have an Apple TV (very similar to Roku) and it's the best $99 I've ever spent. Paired with Netflix and my iTunes library, which includes a lot of movies, I couldn't imagine not having one.

I could actually do without cable!

Here, too! We've saved about $50/month on cable over the last year since buying the Roku. And we had basic cable, so I feel we get more variety out of the Roku! Love it!!!

We went down to basic cable last year.

1. We already had Netflix with 2 discs service =$20.00 monthly cost The kids were already watching this on the Nintendo WII we had bought. Netlfix has alot of tv series that I never watched before plus a number of movies.
2. We bought a Roku player for $69.99 for my bedroom tv
3. We signed up for Hulu Plus for $7.99 a month If you had a DVR Hulu plus is great replacement for broadcast tv, It has ABC, Fox, CW and Fox tv shows for the past season.

we figured we have saved over $900 this year

When the Wii started offering Netflix streaming, we ditched HBO and went with Netflix streaming.

Since then, we bought two Rokus for our other TVs.

Money well spent. :)

We received a Roku for Christmas last year and we love it, however I still cannot talk DH into dropping our cable.

We have 4 of them. :thumbsup2 One for each TV.

I figure we broke even in about 5 months compared to having Satellite TV. We have been Satellite free for almost 2 years now.

We do have Netflix. I dropped Hulu+ because we mostly watch CBS shows and I couldn't get them on Hulu+. I opted for Playon. Playon isn't that great in terms of quality, but it will stream to my TV through Roku. I can get my CBS shows that way.

I have our roku for about 3 years, I love it. We got rid of cable long before that. I love saving all that money. I need to get one more box for the other t.v.

That's the Roku I've had for a couple of months now, and I LOVE it!! I was able to cut cable down to the bare bones, and have so many more options now. I love love love that there's a Live365 channel available -- now I can stream my Disney park music stations through the TV which sounds so much better than through the tinny laptop speakers. And DS & I both love the Pandora channel!! Heck, I think we just listen now as much as we ever used to watch, and we're getting more done since we're not glued to the couch. :)
Love the Roku!! :hyper:

I just got a Roku & I love it as well!

I am only using it for Amazon Prime, but there sure is a lot of free stuff to watch included (had Amazon Prime anyway). Well worth the $ just for that so far. :cool1:

I have heard a lot about Playon & I have a question. I have not signed up for HuluPlus, as I don't want any additional fees, I still have cable. But Playon may be something I am interested in. What can you watch & is there a fee? How does it work?

Any other suggestions for how I can get the most out of my Roku? We recently lost power & lost some shows that we watch on our DVR, so I am looking for ways to stream past TV shows without an additional fee.

I really have not found a useful channel for use besides the free Amazon Prime yet. But that alone is worth it!

All suggestions welcome :thumbsup2

Thanks!

Had my Roku for a couple of years now. Love it. We kept basic cable ($20 per mo) because it offered the local network affiliate stations in HD. We have Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime, but we split those services between 3 locations as my kids are both away at different colleges, but we all share the same account for each.

I got rid of our cable TV a couple years ago and got a Roku about six months later. Best purchase EVER. Between Amazon Prime and Netflix it's impossible to run out of stuff to watch. There are also quite a few free channels for Roku that are pretty cool. I would never go back to cable TV!

Also, in some areas cable companies aren't allowed to (or don't bother to) block local channels. So, if you have cable internet service, you may be able to plug the cable into the back of your TV and pull down the local stations. We get about 50 ABCs, NBCs, PBSs, etc...

Actually it is stealing if you are not paying for it. It's called Cable Theft and it comes with a heavy cost if you get caught.

Can anyone tell me if you can hook it up easily to different tv's or is the account only on one tv.. hope that makes sense?
Also can anyone tell me the difference between the original puple box and the one that was listed here on sale the roku2? on Roku's website they have the original one listed for $49 with free shipping. Thinking of getting this for Christmas but this is the first I have ever heard of this neat little gadget :)

If they ever have an option for NFL Network & ESPN on Roku, I'm ditching DTV. We have a Roku now, but have some issues with ours. Not enough memory in it or something. It freezes a lot on certain shows, but it has some great potential.
