Just a lot of processed food. I don't get coupons when you are essentially buying boxes of junk.
Don't yell at me - but this poster has a point.
First - let me say that I am a major couponer and have been for many years - but truly - the vast majority of coupons are for processed food and cleaning products. If most of us are honest I think that we'd agree that processed/packaged foods are must less healthy than whole/fresh foods. Unfortunately most of us don't have the time or money to go a total whole food route to feed our families. For example, this week I bought Barilla pasta sauce for 49 cents/jar after coupons. I already had pasta and salad dressing that I had gotten for free. I cannot buy good, fresh, organic produce to make the sauce for anywhere near that price and when I was working fulltime and my children were home I didn't have the time every day either.
Also, I can often get name brand cleaning products and toiletries for pennies on the dollar using sales and coupons. If I were to use organic packaged products or home made products there are little to no savings to be had out there.
So here is what I've tried to do - and I'm sure many of you are the same way - use the money I save by following sales and couponing (and I mean normal couponing....not weirdo hoarding) and use those savings to supplement my budget to buy good produce and meats. That way there is somewhat of a balance. Not probably the best option - but it's realistic for most of us. So my 49 cent spaghetti dinner allowed me to buy produce to make a beautiful salad to go with it.
Thanks everyone for posting your savings! I miss the old CVS and Walgreens savings threads.
