I love Ellen don't get me wrong.. but I don't think she's fit for AI.

I really like Kara and she knows the music industry. ellen is a great talk show host but she really doesn't bring anything to AI.

I like Ellen, and think she's doing a good job on AI. Didn't care for Paula "You were great no matter how you sang" Abdul, so I think she's a vast improvement. I think Ellen tries to give original critiques and she's just getting started at it, so I think she'll get even better as time passes.

I agree with those that say that Simon seems to be phoning it in. It just seems like when the camera is on him, he looks so BORED and like he can hardly wait to get off the set.

And, Kara is really starting to bug me regarding Casey. Sure, he's some mighty fine eye candy, but woman - start acting professionally and do your JOB as a judge. I was on another forum and they made a good point - would Kara's behavior be tolerated if she were a male judge? I really don't think so. It's now creepy and even Casey doesn't seem to know how to react to it. I don't blame him. :confused3

I hope the show gets back into better form because it's not much fun to watch right now.

All I have to say is She'd BETTER KEEP HER COUGAR HANDS OFF MY CASEY....:love:

On the serious side, Kara is the reason I watch the DVR tape of the show instead of listening to her drivel. Randy is mutable, Simon speaks the gospel, Ellen is sweet and cracks me up, Kara... FAST FORWARD!!!

Kara knows her stuff but socially she is very awkward...she needs to settle down and focus on her job...an honest critique with suggestions for making it better...I agree...Simon has checked out...but he might just be crazy like a fox...if he can make this season bad enough it might just be the last for AI...and then he'll have his show ready to fill the gap...as for Ellen, well it's not her fault, but three's company and four's a MESS...seems like the show is focusing on the judges and not the contestants...even Ryan seems a little over it....

OMG if they put Shania on AI I will never watch it....rudest person EVER!

I felt that about Avril Lavigne. I thought she was beyond rude! Didn't get that feeling from Shania but I wasn't paying close attention.

To get back to the original topic, I agree with you OP. I absolutely love Ellen and I was really happy when I heard she was joining the show. But she seems like she is at a loss for words sometimes. :confused3 I think she's just nervous and she needs to hit her groove! :)

I also think the talent is REALLY lacking this season.

She was an unusual and questionable choice, but Ellen has turned out to be the best thing about this season to me. They show's premise is getting old, Simon does seem to be checking out, and except for a couple, the contestants this year are so far not particularly great or interesting to me. I might quit watching if it weren't for Ellen, but to me she has been kind of a breath of fresh air for the show. It's nice to have someone on who doesn't claim to be an expert, but who enjoys music and entertainment enough to be able to offer decent critiques and also a dose of humor without trying to turn it into a comedy show.

I love her! But I don't know if American Idol suits her. I notice she keeps pausing, looking for the right words to say.. She seems to be stuttering a little bit. Sometimes I feel like she's just going with what other judges' opinion.. like she's feeding off from other judges. Please don't shoot me.. I'm just stating my opinion. It's just that.. my opinion.

Who would you rather see on AI instead of Ellen?? I thought Kate Perry did a good job when she was the guest at one of the opening auditions. I like Shania Twain too. There's a lot of artists out there that I think is more qualified than Ellen.. Again.. please don't shoot me.. I am just stating my opinion. = )

My family and I were just talking about this today! I love Ellen too, but I don't think she's qualified enough to judge performances. Just liking music and dancing isn't enough....I really was hoping she'd work out doing this!

Not sure what it is with Kara. She isn't stupid, I think she knows her stuff, and I can't put my finger on anything really objectionable about her. BUT...she is just not engaging on tv whatsoever. This judge situation is a mess they'd better fix and FAST!

i love Ellen too, but i agree. i don't think that she's right for AI. but i don't think her "searching for words" is the problem, Paula did that a lot too. i just think that they should have more people who are in the music industry judging, because they're the ones that know what works and what doesn't work.

but if i'm being completely honest, i'd rather it be Ellen on the show than Kara. i can't STAND her!

i did like Katy Perry as a guest judge, too. i think she did really well. ESPICALLY when she mentioned something along the lines of "everyone has a story" because i totally agree, i'm sick of all of the "sob stories" on American Idol. that's not going to make me vote for you. if anything, they keep talking so much about it, it aggrivates me more and makes me NOT want to vote for that person, so i don't have to hear about it anymore.

Me too! And that girl Katie Perry, who I had never even heard of. Both of them came across as very arrogant, and both had an odd lack of facial expression. I actually liked the Spice Girl who judged twice, though, even though she didn't show much facial expression either. How they seemed to me could just be how it was all edited, though, just like with anything on TV.

see i liked both of those girls because they told it like it was. i'm SICK of them sugar coating it for these contestants. if they sounded bad, TELL THEM! don't say "oh no sweetie...i'm sorry...that wasn't that good" just say "no, that was awful, next please" that's probably why i like Simon too, for the most part.

I've occassionally glanced at AI this season, and IMHO they needed to put an ACTUAL musician/singer in Paula's place. The judges reduce the number of contestants to 24, or whatever the number is, before America starts voting. It's not fair to the contestants to be judged/cut from the show by someone who has no background in the music business.

Ellen has no cred as a judge......period. Her role is, obviously, to provide entertainment to us.

It's not fair to the contestants to be judged/cut from the show by someone who has no background in the music business.

How is that much different from 23 of these 24 contestants eventually being cut from the show by millions of "judges" who have no background in the music or even entertainment business?

The big difference is that the judges are supposed to be the "experts" in the field who funnel the ginormous number of contestants down to the very best of the group. In reality, anybody in the final group could probably record a decent album after receiving more voice coaching, grooming, and managing. They are ALREADY good, KWIM?

The millions of "at home" judges are merely choosing a favorite from this hand-picked bunch.

I heard this morning that Ellen and Simon are not getting along and that's the reason that they are no longer sitting next to each other. Not sure if it's true, but there could be some tension in the air.

I think that four judges are just too many. That's part of the reason that Ellen seems redundant, I think they all do when they are the fourth judge to speak. I was happy with three.

I definitely sense some awkward tension, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the true.

Yes!! ITA...four is too many. I'd be completely content if they gave Kara the boot. She's really creeping me out with the whole Casey thing. Yes, we get it...he's hot but seriously woman, CALM DOWN!!

I like Ellen, and was excited to see her on AI this year - BUT... She makes me miss Paula! :rotfl::confused3 I never liked Paula, used to fast forward through her - BUT, I liked that she was always nice. In a very sincere way. She could take the worst performer of the night, and say they looked glamorous - and it brought some kindness to counter Simon (who I really do like!).

I don't really think Ellen is playing the nice judge - so she seems redundant up there.

I also read that Simon was 1.5 hours late for the first time the whole group was to work together, and that put Ellen off, as she had rearranged her work schedule to accommodate AI. There is NO good chemistry with Ellen and Simon - and it makes it painful to watch.

I really don't know if there is any tension bewteen Simon and Ellen. Didn't they sit together during Hollywood week? Maybe Ellen is on the outside so if she gets the itch to dance she can

I felt that about Avril Lavigne. I thought she was beyond rude! Didn't get that feeling from Shania but I wasn't paying close attention.

Oh I wasn't referring to anything Shania did on the show. I work in the music industry, I talk to musicians just about daily. Shania is the only one who has ever played the "I don't think you know who I am" card on me, to which I happily replied "I know exactly who you are Shania, I have 2 of your CD's in my car" to which she replied something like "give me what I want or I will have you fired". Ya, I still work here Shania and you don't work with our company at all. LOL So from very personal experience Shania is beyond rude. :)

And to further clarify, I didn't even watch the nights she was on. Not at all.....so ya, if she's a judge I'm not watching anymore. :)

I don't get all this she's just nervous stuff. SHe has a talk show that she does in front of a live audience, what is she nervous about, being honest with the contestants? If thats the case she doesn't belong in a judge's chair. She could easily take over Ryan's job though and be great at that :thumbsup2

3 judges are plenty. That being said, I am willing to give Ellen some time to settle into this new role. She is much better than several of the guest judges, for sure.

I agree! Why do we need 4 judges??

But if we need 4 judges why not that Spice Girl who judged some of the talent pre Hollywood? But remember, before you guys get crazy on me....I am menopausal!!!:rotfl:
