For the West Coasters: We are thinking about driving the Pacific Coast next June, is it better to start in Seattle and go south or better to start in CA and go north to Seattle? And just to do stops along the way. Trying to decide on San Francisco or Los Angeles as start or stop. Definitely want to take DS to visit Stanford since there is currently where he wants to go to college (he is currently a 7th grader so we have time :) ) We found be flying and renting a car since we are on the East Coast. Thinking 7-10 days. Any thoughts?
If it were me I would start in California and drive north. Summer rarely starts in the PNW until AFTER July 4th, so the later you get here, the better chance you have of seeing the sun.

I agree. I'm in CA and LA can get really hot in the summer, so I think I'd prefer to drive North.

My Double Dip is now fully complete! I may be one of the last people on our thread to have a successful CSR/CSP double dip!

It's been a pretty tense 4 weeks while this all played out. When the news began to spread of Chase going back and closing cards, I panicked and immediately met the MSR on my CSR and CSP through VGCs from our grocery store. (We still have about $1,800 left but I can just use that on organic spend for the next couple of months). Then a few DPs popped up of them going back to mid-August and closing people's cards...one person had even met the MSR.

But tonight, I am happy to report that I have just been awarded ~108k URs! This brings our total up over 500k which is also awesome too! (I just wish I could use them on WDW trips and Disney cruises...)

We were extremely fortunate that we pulled the trigger on the double dip when we did! As many of you know, that double dip was 26 months in the making so it feels very sweet to see this churning strategy culminate tonight!! ::yes:::thumbsup2:goodvibes

I'm sorry for those who attempted a DD and had a card shut down. I certainly don't post this to rub that in.

EDIT: And paranoid me immediately went in and moved all the points to the CSR card, LOL! I also paid both off out immediately (statements closed at 11:45pm mon. night, lol!) I just like seeing $0 owed!

I'm so happy yours worked out, and so very sorry for those who didn't have the same outcome. Now what to do with all those UR's if we cannot use them on Disney??

I know it's serious blasphemy to say this...but I'm really considering cashing a bunch out at some point if the Disney option doesn't come back. I literally cannot identify a viable use for these without WDW or Disney Cruise. And I'm probably going to earn another 300k-400k URs in the next year...

Well, I asked you because...I cashed out 40k tonight. I absolutely hated doing so but I just don't see a meaningful way of using these points if Disney doesn't come back as an option. Sad for sure. I don't want to just use them for cash. I earned them to be so much more than that!

No regrets...if it worked for you then go with it! Hopefully that $400 can be put to good use somewhere. :)

I'm super torn because we don't need the cash. I'd basically just invest it at this point. That isn't exactly a bad plan...except if Disney comes back I could get an immediate 50% return on that money. I probably will wait at least until the end of Q1 2019 before I'll actually pull the trigger on a cash out to make sure Disney is 100% dead.

Just put it towards our family's trip to TX in Nov. Nothing terribly exciting but we could use the cash to help offset the cost. Still makes me sad. I'd never cash out if I thought the money could go towards Disney. Maybe I won't cash anymore out until the end of Q1 2019.

Thanks! We did DL at the end of July and my in-laws live in Phoenix so we are familiar with the summer heat. We've never been to OR or WA so we weren't sure what to expect. Our schools don't get out until 6/15 so it would be later in June before we would be out.

I have to pay the remainder of my ortho bill in Jan when the FSA resets and with the AmEx Plat MSR looming I thought maybe VGCs would be the best option since my ortho doesn't take AmEx. Is there a best location to put them at?

FYI to anybody who has NOT upgraded their old Marriott personal card yet:

Perhaps they've increased your upgrade offer. No regrets of course but I'm sitting here saying "geez, I accepted a measly 20k to upgrade...maybe I could've had 50k, lol!"

I'm showing the 50K upgrade. My first offer was 10K. First year isn't up until Dec so I'm not accepting it right away. Maybe on Dec 31.

I got 10k originally, this time its 50k. My AF posted on the first. I dont see when they would charge the AF... but I'm thinking, why not take it? Basically $95 for a 35k cert plus 50k points....

Do they prorate a refund of $85 and then charge a prorated $95? My AF hits in June. I just want to make sure I don't just get charged a straight $95 now. I already hit my 50 nights/Platinum so I don't need the spend for nights anymore. That is what I was holding on to just in case I was close.

Congrats on the successful DD.

I just died a little inside reading that.

Yay! Congratulations!

I saw yesterday that my CSP bonus is pending finally. Am so thankful I squeaked that DD in when I did.

Me too! lol I hope I don't offend anyone by saying that it makes me super sad that Disney is the only trip they want to take. There is so much more out there. I can understand if you had a trip coming up and you were counting on that redemption, but to say you have no other use for them is just a little sad. Venture out!

We have stayed at Bonnet Creek a few times. It is very nice! I would highly recommend it. I was looking forward to having my teens come and go as they wanted and not having to drive anywhere. Bonnet Creek isn't far from the parks but then we would be stuck traveling together all the time. My teens like to sleep in on vacation and stay out late, me and my dh like to get up early go.

Bonnet Creek has its own bus schedule to the Disney parks. The last time I looked it was $6-8/day/person. It doesn’t run as frequently as the Disney busses but it would be a viable option for the teenagers.
Thanks we will look for the publix once we get there.
I believe the Publix will also deliver to Bonnett Creek. I think their delivery system is called Instacart.

I agree—ur points for me = flights to Europe:) but my kids are teenagers.
