I love credit cards so much!

Ah, if your husband is not eligible for a CSR bonus right now, he won't be eligible for a CSP bonus either. Last August, Chase implemented what we call the "one Sapphire rule":
  • You can’t hold more than one Sapphire card. So if DH currently has an open Sapphire card, his application for another Sapphire card will be denied. (DH would have to product change or cancel any open Sapphire cards before applying.)
  • You have to wait 24 months from getting the bonus on either card before getting it again on another card. So if DH received a bonus on either the CSP or the CSR in the past 24 months, he'll have to wait 24 months after the last Sapphire bonus posted to apply again. If DH got a CSR bonus in January 2017, he'll have to wait until January 2019 or after to get a bonus on the CSP and/or the CSR.
Thanks, this is super helpful to know. Looks like we will be looking for a different card for now. And probably keep the Preferred for another year then.

I am amazed at all the info on this page. I have been looking for a credit card that offers the best cash back. In the past 5 years i have opened only three credit cards.
-Disney Premier -Opened in early 2017 Received $200 bonus +S100 referral-Annual fee
-Alaska Visa signature- Opened in Early 2017- received 30K points + free ticket- Annual fee
-Hilton Amex-Opened in March 2018- Received 50K points plus 15K for referring husband- No Annual fee

DH Credit cards
Regular Disney CC -Opened early 2017-Received $200 bonus-No Fee
Hilton Amex Opened in March 2018- Received 65K points

DH only has those two credit cards in his name.

I have opened them because we go to Disney at least once a year. Alaska is our preferred airline and Hilton is one of our preferred hotels.

I do not mind opening cards to get bonuses I can use, but what i am really searching for is for a card that will give me the best cash back that I can use to put towards vacations. Any recommendations?

Do you have a business? Or anything that could remotely even be considered a “business” if you are looking for one card it should be a Chase UR earning card. URs can be redeemed for cash, transferred to travel partners or you can book travel on the travel portal. I’d look into the Chase Sapphire Products maybe even both of you can apply for both in one day. Or the the Chase Ink Preferred if you have a business or “business”

Tickets only :)

Thanks! Sorry about the issues you and others are having with this. I didn't realize FunJet was an option for them. Both times I've called on a hotel room the agents have made it sound like they're booking directly on the Disney website. Only buying one day tickets for November but I'm planning to buy MVMCP tickets through Chase this weekend to see if they'll code as travel that way. I'll be sure to make sure they're using Disney's website.

Yes. Have him sign up for a HawaiianMiles account. West coast to HNL is about 5k miles RT. If he's flying with family, they should sign up for accounts too because if one of them ends up signing up for a Barclays Hawaiian Airlines MasterCard, the cardholder can receive transfers of HawaiianMiles from anyone for free and effectively pool their miles.

DoC posted recently that the Hawaiian Airlines MasterCard is offering a 60,000 HawaiianMiles bonus by signing up through an in-flight paper application: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/6000...e-credit-card-bonus-in-flight-paper-app-only/ This offer seems valid through 6/30/18. The standard public offer for the Hawaiian Airlines MasterCard is 35,000 miles. Do NOT have him sign up for just 35,000 miles. One can usually pull a higher 50,000 miles offer by making a dummy booking on HawaiianAirlines.com. Flying on HA will also get him targeted for 50,000 mile mailers. I've probably gotten at least three 50,000 miles offers in the mail since returning from Hawaii at the start of this year.

Award availability can be impossible during the holidays, but I find that we can usually find RT award seats for SFO<>HNL most of the year for about 35k-50k miles. HawaiianMiles can also be redeemed on partner airlines: http://hawaiianair.custhelp.com/app...28/~/redeem-hawaiianmiles-on-partner-airlines

Thanks for this. Unfortunately this one flight on Hawaiian Airlines is likely to be the only one for a while--he's pretty much stuck in the midwest for the next several years, with no foreseeable plans to get back to Hawaii. I was thinking that perhaps the miles on HA could be added to a frequent flier program he uses more often, like United. But if not, I'll have him sign up for a HA frequent flier account.

I only have two Chase cards right now and the limits only add up to about 15% of our income, so I think we're safe there (I lowered the IHG to 5k a while ago).

Here's another thought...Does the double dip increase your risk of shutdown? If I don't apply for any other Chase cards for a long time after would I probably be safe?

If you have only two Chase cards, I wouldn't be concerned about a shutdown. Just take a few months to let your personal credit report cool off after your CSP+CSR double dip. As for your 5/24, will you have any slots left after a CSR+CSP (2 slots) for Chase business cards?

You’ll be our DP on if that blogger is right and they can still book direct with Disney for tickets!
Edit: oh, wait- it sounds like you aren't using points for that? Fwiw Undercover Tourist is selling party tickets this year and they've been reported as coding as travel. Also, you could purchase just one ticket to see how the coding comes out before buying all if you've got a group.

I do not have a business but my husband does side jobs apart from his regular job. and is hoping to get his license before the end of the year and open a small businesses. I had not thought about opening a card yet for that. So a Chase ink for this???

What % do i get back with the UR card. I had looked at the freedom card. How do they differ? I bank with chase so that is a plus.

What a mistake it was going to Mr. Tire and do the return process. DH had used his Freedom instead of my Amex SPG so I went there the day after and they did the refund and put the payment on the AmEx. I thought all was well until the refund never posted and now I am battling with Mr Tire and Chase to my $834.17 back. What a nightmare to meet a spend.

Just got back from a work trip. Had to take a United flight because they were the only airline that serviced the tiny airport. I haven’t flown United in the past 6 years. On my leg from ORD to DTW, the lady sitting next to me was awful. She tried to occupy the entire arm rest and actually asked me to move my arm (which was taking up the tiniest 1/4th of it). I will told her no. And then instead of asking me to get up so she could get to the bathroom, she actually climbed over me and kicked me in the process. Thank goodness it is a short flight. Ugh.

You should be able to use another ff. Go in to where you can enter the number and if it's like others it'll give you a drop down of the plans you can use. I'm flying icelandair later this month and earning Alaska miles which is my preferred airline. They are partners.

Is the food here actually good? I feel like I've heard a lot about the ice cream but not so much about the food. Considering it for my November trip.

It was yummy. We're hoping to eat there again in Nov. Our adr day is Sunday.

I'm just so upset. I was planning on utilizing the 90 day FP pilot program for CL guests for a few days at the end of my trip. (Been saving up bank bonuses for it :) ) Was your date of departure super close in when you bought? Chase never said it would 60 days prior to departure before I would get my tickets!

I called Chase and they said that's their vendor and they can put in a request the tickets process sooner but that won't necessarily happen and to call Chase back every other week and see if the vendor has processed it. Nothing else they could do. Waiting until 60 days before a Disney World trip for the tickets would scare the daylights out of me even if I wasn't looking to participate in the CL pilot program! Just trust I have it on the 60 day mark at 4am for FP booking?! The crazy thing is @WVMomof3 is in the same boat and is getting the same response from Chase and she is already in that 60 day window. I tried calling Chase's vendor today and was told at least 30 min wait, yesterday I waited about 15 mins with them, but it looks like they won't talk to me since I'm not the agent that booked the ticket. I've sent an email explaining the situation to the original Chase rep who forwarded me the Funjet confirmation explaining the situation and I will settle in for holding with Funjet later this morning and hope to heaven I can get someone there to accelerate the processing on this. This is ridiculous.

Reading more it's their process time but I've never heard anything good about funjet. I think this shows us we should ask who they are doing the booking through so we understand what will happen. Hopefully it only takes the week or so to get your ticket numbers.

If you're trying to meet MSR on a CIP by paying student loans, I'd really suggest using Plastiq instead.

As you noticed, GoC gift cards max out at $200 but has an activation fee of $5.95 per card. As far I'm aware, you can apply as many GoC cards to your account as you want, but you'll be paying a 2.975% fee on each card. Toys R Us/Babies R Us used to sell GoC gift cards loadable up to $500 for a $5.95 activation fee (1.19%), but that's gone. Some regional grocery stores still carry variable load GoC cards up to $500 (I'm thinking HEB), but those may not be available to you. There have been rumors for almost 2 years now that GoC cards will be available at Best Buy.

Plastiq has a 2.5% credit card fee, so already cheaper than $200 GoC cards. But on the CIP, Plastiq earns 3x UR for every type of payment -- including student loans -- and the fee. (There's no restriction to paying student loans with Visa cards on Plastiq, but student loan payments are generally not allowed with Amex.) So for example, if your student loan payment is $500/month, you'd pay a 2.5% fee or $12.50; but as long as Plastiq earns 3x UR on CIP, you're earning 3x UR on $512.50 or 1537.5 UR, which is worth $15.37 if you cash out with a statement credit or bank deposit or worth 1.25x more ($19.22) towards travel if you transfer and redeem the UR points to CSP/CIP, or 1.5x more ($23.06) on the CSR. So with Plastiq, you're paying a 2.5% fee, but you're coming out ahead of that fee if you're paying with the CIP.

If you decide to use Plastiq, please consider signing up through a DISchurners link. You'll support a fellow member, but you'll also get $500 fee free dollars ("FFDs") after you make your first $500 in payments. That means the next time you use Plastiq, they'll waive the fees on your next $500 worth of payments (saving you $12.50).

Makes perfect sense, thanks!

Is there any reason I shouldn't make Plastiq payments on the student loan from my CSP now and then from my CIP when I get that?

Plastiq earns just 1x UR on the CSP/CSR. You’ll earn the base points, but that won’t offset Plastiq’s 2.5% fee.

Have read every page of this entire thread. Thanks for all of the great info. Quick question. I have a major landscape expense coming up and would like to sign up for CSP and use that to pay. Landscaper is not set up to accept cc. Can I use CSP through Plastiq to pay? Probably a dumb question, but recall seeing where Chase is cracking down on Plastiq use, but that may have been mortgages only. Thanks!

I purchased the tickets with UR on 4/11/18 with a fastpass date of 4/17/18. I received the tickets about 5 minutes after the purchase. The ticket email came from "Walt Disney Destinations" and showed that Chase used a Mastercard to make the purchase. I'm so sorry you are having issues. Hope it's resolved ASAP.

We product changed from CSR to Freedom 5-6 months ago. He will not be eligible for the CSR bonus again until Jan 2019. I guess we could product change to the other Freedom card. Did not realize you could sign up again that fast.

Thanks, this is super helpful to know. Looks like we will be looking for a different card for now. And probably keep the Preferred for another year then.
So an interesting thought here...do you have a business, or any sort of side hustle that could qualify as a business? (rental property, Sell things on Ebay, sell cookies, teach piano, consulting, etc.)... :) If you would be open to a business card I would recommend the Chase Ink Preferred (CIP). You would apply for this card as a sole proprietorship (Use your first name and last name as the business name and your SSN as the EIN). Here's how that bonus works:

Chase Ink Preferred (CIP)
  • Best Online Offer = 80,000 Ultimate Rewards (URs) for $5k spend in 90 days (there is an in branch offer for 100k - it requires some additional work to apply in branch to with a BRM).
  • Annual fee = $95 (not waived)
  • Points are worth = 1.25 cents each through the travel portal OR transfer 1:1 to numerous partners
  • Assuming you'd use the 1.25 travel option here's what you get:
  • 80,000 bonus URs + 5,000 base URs (from min spend) = 85,000 URs worth $1,062.50 LESS $95 annual fee = $967.50
  • Also of note - you could hold these points, get a CSR after and then you can redeem these points at 1.50 via the CSR making it worth $1,180
This card as well as its friends the CSR (Chase Sapphire Reserve) and CSP (Chase Sapphire Preferred) earn Ultimate Rewards (URs) which are super awesome (flexible) points that can be used to pay for hotels, flights, transfer to Southwest, pay for On-Site Disney stays and packages, etc.

The other comment here is then you could downgrade your CSP to the Freedom and avoid the AF and through this card you'd still have the ability to redeem URs at 1.25 for travel (and transfer to partners).

Side jobs is definitely a business :) The Chase Ink Preferred is the best biz card around - here's how that bonus works:

Chase Ink Preferred (CIP)

  • Best Online Offer = 80,000 Ultimate Rewards (URs) for $5k spend in 90 days (there is an in branch offer for 100k - it requires some additional work to apply in branch to with a BRM).

  • Also of note - you could hold these points, get a CSR after and then you can redeem these points at 1.50 via the CSR making it worth $1,180
Also - I notice you aren't a member of our private reddit group "DISchurners". Would you like to join that? We have some detail on our best tips over there AND you could support another DISer when you apply. You also can share your own support links there too...

What did the confirmation look like and how did you add it?
it was an email from Walt Disney Destinations and it came with a confirmation number. I put in the confirmation number on my mde account under "link tickets" and the tickets with the correct amount of days came up on the screen. I then assigned the tickets to my family members.

OMG. Well, seeing as she was rude enough to physically injure a stranger on a flight she's probably a very rude person in general so it won't take long for karma to catch up. She'll do it to the wrong person someday who will hit the roof over that crap- just glad you kept your cool!

Paying a contractor through Plastiq using a Chase card is fine. Just keep in mind that it takes 7-10 days from submission for a check from Plastiq to get delivered. If your contractor is ok with that, you shouldn’t have problems from Chase or Plastiq. (At most, Plastiq may ask you to send in an invoice to verify the payment.)

But why CSP? As I mentioned above, Plastiq will earn you only 1x UR on the CSP, which won’t entirely offset Plastiq’s 2.5% fee. Have you considered applying for the Chase Ink Preferred (CIP), which will get you 3x UR on your payment and fees on Plastiq?
