I love credit cards so much!

Thanks! I can go ahead and meet the minimum spend in the next day or two; when does the offer expire? I don't mind if they look closely at my account; all of my spending has been for actual goods and services so I think it'll be ok. They may wonder why I put my kids' summer camp tuition on a business card but I doubt they'll question it. I've only been with AmEx for about five years, but maybe that's long enough. I am a little concerned about the fact that I just got a the AmEx Biz Gold in mid-January and then the SPG Business in February. If I call and complain about missing out on the points offer and they see this they may think I'm in it just for the points (which would be true). I don't know if that could stir up any trouble or not. But I doubt there is much they would do. I mean, I've spent almost $10,000 with them in two months.

With the organic spend your put on the Biz Gold and potentially what you can put on the SPG Biz now to meet the spend shortly, I don’t think calling is an issue for you at all. Businesses often have large expenses and it’s not uncommon to justify multiple cards, even if in a short amount of time, as “wanting a suite of cards that best suits my business and business needs”. If anything, the organic spend could work in your favor as the original reddit poster also noted he/she had $6,500 in spend as of today when he/she called. There’s a reason why Biz cards often have the higher additional spend thresholds for bonuses (I.e. spend $5-10K for X amount of points and spend another $5-10K for an additional Y). It’s expected in a way that businesses ‘should’ have higher expenses. FWIW, I had a few of my father’s medical expenses on the card along with two Plastiq payments.

Five years I would also think is a decent amount of time with Amex to claim a long relationship since these two cards clearly isn’t just the beginning of a “rewards abuse” relationship ;)

I don’t think there’s a ton of downside to calling now and calling again if need be as @gottalovepluto also suggested. I’d say “good luck”!!

Its been a crazy busy week and I just managed to get caught back up on this thread. I just wanted to thank those that offered advice last week when I was considering a cash back card for my upcoming Disney trip. Fearing that I was too late to try for a cash back card for this trip I decided to try for the SPG biz. I am still not sure if I want to embrace giong way over 5/24 as @SouthFayetteFan put it or try to slow down with some business cards until I can try for CSR and CSP double dip in April 2019. Either way the SPG biz will give me time to think about it.
I got instant approval on the SPG (using a reddit thank you link). I called 2 days later to see if I could have the card expedited and they told me that it had already been shipped and told me it was sent to an address I had never heard of. They said that I had called on the same day I was approved and asked for a replacement card sent to another address. Then they transferred me to their fraud department who cancelled that card and express mailed me a new one to my correct address. They suggested that I change my email password, which I did but that was kinda scary. Just sharing so others are aware.

Sorry about your scary potential fraud experience...glad you got instant approval :)

I think using this SPG Biz card to "waste a little time" so to speak is a great plan. You're at a really tough spot being right at 5/24 and your next card is a very important decision.
I'm gonna throw another comment out here:
Have you looked into the AMEX Membership rewards program? I'm not sure if any of these airlines fit your plans but they have a TON of transfer partners. The reason I bring them up is because if you're trying to go "all business cards" for a year...the Business Gold Rewards (BGR), Blue Business Plus (BB+), and Business Platinum all carry large min. spends that could keep you busy for a few months. The BGR has annual fee waived year 1, BB+ has no annual fee, and Biz Plat has a large annual fee but NUMEROUS benefits that help offset that fee. I'd look into it if I were you as April 2019 is a long time away and you'll certainly need some distractions :) Also - do you have a player 2 that you can get into the game? At any rate here are those transfer partners for MR (I believe this is a complete list of airline partners):
EDIT: Apparently the site I copied these transfer rates from had them all as links...I'll leave the links in here but I have NO IDEA if that site is giving accurate information or not.

Whew, just finally got caught up again after our trip to Universal Studios! I have a couple of new questions...

I'm planning to try to get the SW CP in early 2019. Would it be too risky for me to double dip the CSR and CSP this summer, as far as hitting Chase too hard? Also, can I do that double dip when I'm at 4/24 (the double-double dip!), or do I need to be at 3/24?

I want to add ds15 as an AU on one of our cards (haven't decided which one yet), so that he can use it when we go to DL this summer when he and his friend separate from us. What are the chances that counter service restaurants or carts would ask him for ID (he doesn't have one yet)? With how many times I've been to DL, you'd think I'd know this, but I do seem to remember somewhere there asking me for ID.

Thanks! You guys are great!

You can definitely double dip at 4/24...in fact, that is the perfect place to double dip! However, you will then be 6/24. You will need two cards to 'fall off' by the time you are ready to go for the SW cards in early 2019. Do you have two cards falling off by then? If so, I don't think that is hitting Chase too hard as long as you time that csr/csp double dip earlier in the summer.

It's been too long since I was at DL but at WDW, I don't remember ever being asked for id. Even before magic bands. How old is your ds? No school id or anything he could take along?

ETA: I see you said your ds is 15yo. I agree with @gottalovepluto. Maybe just buy him some GC's to take along unless he has something that will work for ID.

It seems to me they ask for id 50/50, although they didn't seem quite as strict last trip. That said I would send him with cash, it's really the only safe option if he doesn't have an id to match the credit card. If you want points another option is to get him a Disney gift card for however much you know he'll spend and then he can use cash after draining the gift card.

to address your 2nd question(@wendow answered your first), Disney Cast Members usually dont ask to see ID. Unless you decide to order something big, then there might be a chance they will check it. YMMV though.
when i worked as a cashier, i typically dont ask for an ID unless its a big order and/or it doesnt seem right to me. like if the name on the card is a male but a female is giving it to me and vice versa.

according to certain websites, if the card is signed, the merchant is suppose to swipe it. Source

I don’t think you would have a problem getting approved for the CIP. I had the sw bus 7 mo before applying for the CIP. Got approved immediately. Since you do have a legit business then calling shouldn’t be a problem. They didn’t even question that I had the sw bus already. Hope that helps. Using a referral link would help someone so I’d go that route since the pre approval doesn’t always mean a guarantee with chase. Good luck applying

It does help! Thank you for chiming in. Really appreciate!

3/24.

Hit URs (over MRs) first due to 5/24. You or DH get a card and then refer the other to pad your UR take!

1) sorry idk

2) after. This way if you're denied because they've extended their max credit limit to you, you can offer to transfer from your other biz card. They won't allow you to transfer credit from your personal cards. Also, are there any retention offers on the Southwest biz? (hoping if I bold it someone who knows more than I might hop in ;) ) If there are consider feeling those out after getting your CIP but before you cancel the card in case you find enough value to justify the fee.

3) yes and no.
Yes: You are talking about pre-approvals. I'd recommend applying via the pre-approval link if you are actually ore-approved, anything else makes 0 difference.
No: Emails are not pre-approvals and neither are physical mailers, code or not. I'm just not sure if biz card pre-approvals show online or if you have to go in branch. To check if you have a pre-approval online look under "your offers" on Chase and if there is a cip WITH A GREEN CHECK MARK. If you have that mark you should apply through that link imho. If you don't have a green check mark you do not have a pre-approval (even if the card and bonus show) and should apply via a "link" as your approval odds are the same. You can also go in branch to check for pre-approvals but you must specifically ask to check for business card pre-approvals. If you get one in branch apply then! (Idk if you need a business banker for that.)

Great on the 3/24. That's what I hoped but wasn't sure.

(2) Great. That's how I was leaning, but totally makes sense for transfer of credit. I haven't investigated retention offers for that, but I want to close to churn in two years for another companion pass. Mine expires at the end of this year, and we plan to have my husband get his two cards for 2019-20 so we can toggle.
(3) Thanks for the clarification. I can't seem to find the offers on my Chase page--I have the business site so that may be why. I'll try to pop into Chase tomorrow to see if I do have an actual pre-approval before applying. I have my business account there so should be good.

As to your first question, after getting his CIP last May somehow a thief got a hold of his CIP number, his Reserve number, his birth date, and his social security number. They changed our home address and ordered a phone. I was on my way to work and got the alert our address had been changed to my email. At any rate, since then I absolutely think it is worthwhile on his card to have an alert on his card. What I have is a 90 day alert that can be renewed every 60 days. Kind of a pain but worth it for peace of mind to me. When you review his account on credit wise it is clear that before any account issued they have to hear from him on his cell phone (which is the number listed on the alert). With Chase we actually have a special code as well. Kind of a pain but worth the peace of mind. I don’t see it hurting his chances of approval but honestly we have slowed his down since then as it is a little scary.

I have two cell phones (one work, one personal) and out of caution I check all our accounts at least once a day. (Just mention I have two because that makes my paranoid proclivities a little easier).

I think they will approve you or not on the CIP the fact that you got the email won’t matter that much. Good luck!

Ugh. Reading this just fed my paranoia! What a nightmare situation and *so* glad you got the alert and averted major damage. I never used to check my accounts but with all my credit cards and bonus purchases I check much more often. Thanks so much for passing on your experience. Totally agree about a little pain being worth the peace of mind. I'll probably try to apply with the freeze and see *how* much of a pain it is to get that temporary code.

Thanks to all for the responses and advice. Much appreciated :)

Hello Everyone! I hope I'm not interrupting a thread of intense sharing or consultation, but I got some great advice with getting a JetBlue Plus card through Barclay a few months ago, so I thought I'd come back seeking more advice from you wonderful people. Hopefully some of you great credit card gurus out there can help me figure out the basics with the newest credit card crossroads I'm facing.

The JetBlue Plus card has been great so far(I've scored 2 of the 8 tickets for my trip to WDW in August for almost free), got a relatively decent spend limit of $2600, and have been paying it off in full monthly(the variable interest rate of ~24.99% has been dodged multiple times). Lately, I've noticed that it seems to be taking longer for payments to reflect back on my available balance, sometimes up to 2 weeks. I do want to earn points quicker, but the limit I have is kind of preventing me from doing so. I was wondering if it's worth asking for a limit increase so soon after opening the account. Credit scores are holding up pretty nicely, personal income has gone up a bit, and overall utilization between three cards is about 25%. I know there are other factors that are considered, and I can answer them on a vaguely need-to-know basis if need be.

And also since I'm here, if the limit increase things don't pan out with the JetBlue Plus card, should I consider the Disney Premier Visa Card? It seems random, but I find some appeal in getting rewards in the form of Disney spending, but at the same time feel that it seems restrictive. I do have that trip in August that has an open balance that can help earn rewards relatively quickly(procrastination at both it's best and worst). I am also open to other suggestions for other cards that can get me cash or rewards back at a decent rate. I don't want to risk having more hard inquiries than necessary on trying both a JetBlue Plus increase and applying for another card.

I guess what I'm really asking is what is a better use of a hard inquiry; asking for an increase, or applying for a new card (Disney Premier, or otherwise)? I appreciate any help in the form of advice, hopefully relatively friendly/non-judgmental constructive criticism, and cookies... ok, maybe not cookies. There's an idea -a credit card that rewards its customers in cookies. But in all seriousness, I look forward to what everyone has to say!

That freaks me out, I am changing my password right now! Thanks for the heads up.

I had something crazy happen on my Walmart account last week. Got an email that an order was placed for a laptop for instore pickup and they’d email again when it was ready. It had some guy’s name for pickup person and my local store. I cancelled it and called customer service. She deleted all my saved payment info. I then got another email the same type thing for an iphone. I cancelled it and got my password changed. All that happened in less than 5 mins. I can’t figure out how someone local (I assume) got into my account. If the items were to be shipped it would make more sense to me. Glad I check email often!
My SIL got a fedex from Walmart with a single pack of gum, I thought that was weird and creepy. Would be great if they could have set up a sting to grab the person who came in to pick up the laptop lol.

Me! Just returned from stay at Dolphin. Wanted to book for next year, but booking not open yet. I know the value of SPG points but to me they mean free trip to WDW.

I am also focusing on WDW trips. Is there more of a benefit with SPG points over UR?

Not sure of your whole situation but if you are trying to save on Disney you could get a card that gets better than 2% and use it to buy disney gift cards. Best Buy runs promos where you can get 10% off. If you haven’t paid for your room on property an UR card might be worth looking at to cover your room. Also a card that can transfer to jet blue so you can get more flights free.

I don’t think asking for a credit increase results in a hard inquiry. Most of us here apply for many cards in a year just to get the bonus and then move onto a new card. For example my SO and I have applied to 9 cards in the past 10 months. We have gotten 120k Southwest points, 240k Marriott points, 230k UR points, 60k Delta points. These points can be used for hotels, flights and even Disney vacation packages. Is this something you are interested in? If so what are your travel goals? How many cards have you applied to in the last 24 months? If you are just looking for a few cards I’d look into the Freedom Unlimited, Freedom, the Double Cashback card, or Amex everyday card. If you want to hack your way to free travel let us know your goals and 5/24 status and we can make suggestions.

I am also focusing on WDW trips. Is there more of a benefit with SPG points over UR?

SPG points can be used to book the Swan or Dolphin. URs can be booked for on property hotels. It really just depends on where you want to stay. SPG has more transfer partners than UR though and can be used for a lot of different airlines.

Barclays only pulls TransUnion, so that helps. The other bank issuers usually hit Experian and Equifax more commonly. Sometimes Barclays will pull your credit again but not always. If you haven't had the card long and want an increase just call them ask for it. Tell them you need $10k. I'm sure they will give it to you. I've called them same day and moved credit around (two accounts there) and just flat out requested more money and it's never been an issue.

If you decide to get the Disney visa, use a referral link off Dis Churners and make sure you're applying for the $200 statement credit. Lots of folks on here will tell you other cards are more valuable and they are right. But since you are specifically looking for a Disney trip, you might be able to get use from the Disney Visa discounts. I have an AP this year (and the Disney Visa) and the pass discounts are better, so not sure if that is your case or not. I will say you can use your Disney Visa at Disney stores now for any amount of spend. I spent $11 at the outlet on Sunday and was asked if I had the card. Yes, but not with me. I left a dollar on the table, doh! lol.

All things considered if you're not over 5/24, get the Chase Sapphire Preferred (if you can hit the minimum spend requirements).

Wow, that's definitely scary! But congratulations on the new SPG Biz card!

I came back from vacation to my 7-10 day notice from Chase regarding my CIP. They wanted verification of the business name. I was able to head over to a branch and have them fax my Sales Tax certificate. Called recon a few hours later.....and I was approved!!!! They are expediting my card!!! I'm glad to finally join the CIP club!

@Lain, I am looking at this gyft app you suggested. Does CIP code 3x thru PayPal checkout for all these diff places? If so, I need to be buying a whole lot of gift cards on a regular basis. I spend a ton at Home Depot doing random projects...right there getting 3x would be awesome!

Sales tax cert? Sounds like your biz is more legit than usual around here? (I find it hilarious in a sad way I guess how hard it can be for legit biz to open stuff up. Took my Mom into Chase to open a checking account for her corporation & they needed so much documentation & info. My sole proprietorship I opened at the same time was done in like 15-20 mins. We were there for almost 2 hours.)
