I love credit cards so much!

I'm back from a long vacation (which was awesome) and ramping back up to apply for my next round of cards. I've had a couple speed bumps and thought I'd see if you guys had any comments.

As a refresher: I'm sitting 4/24 (or 3/24 depending on whether SW business card counts?) and my goal is UR or MR. DH has been a partial dual player, but he's ramping up, too.

My */24 cards:
--CSR (8/16)
--Amex Plat Business (1/17)
--Citibank AAdvantage (1/17)
--Southwest Business Premier (2/17) (will be closing)
--Southwest Plus (2/17) (will be closing)

After you guys helped me so much with my plan, I'm all set to apply for the CIP even though it will be my fourth Chase business card (I have a single member LLC), but a couple of things have come up.

(1) I put a credit freeze on both DH and my accounts last year after the Equifax breach. I kind of like it. Has anyone done the call with the one time exemption code to lift the freeze after applying? My understanding is that I apply, get the pending message, and then call to talk to Chase to tell them I have a freeze and ask what credit bureau they use, and then call back after getting the code. If it's a hassle or potentially hurts my chances of approval I can just lift the freeze and do Credit Karma and Experian.
(2) I received my annual fee bill for the Southwest Business card that I'm planning to close. Should I close it before or after applying for the CIP or does it make a difference?
(3) Ironically, I received an email offer to apply for the CIP. It does not have a code that I could find. When I click through it just takes me to the fill in info page. I'd love to give someone here a plug with a referral, but I read the chances of approval are higher with one of these offers? If true is there a work around?

My husband will also be applying for the SPG so I will be spreading some love there :)

I'm planning to apply for the SPG, too, after the CIP and closer to the 28th to spread out our spends. Sadly meeting big spends are usually not a problem :( @Calfan understands.
I don’t think you would have a problem getting approved for the CIP. I had the sw bus 7 mo before applying for the CIP. Got approved immediately. Since you do have a legit business then calling shouldn’t be a problem. They didn’t even question that I had the sw bus already. Hope that helps. Using a referral link would help someone so I’d go that route since the pre approval doesn’t always mean a guarantee with chase. Good luck applying

Seriously! I should have said, wow, 10k SPG for just making a phone call!

:lmao::lmao:

I haven't finished the MSR yet, so I wonder if that will be a factor.

They might have you call back when you've completed your min. spend to get the extra points added. I had that occur once before when AMEX "matched" me.

I just got the $5000 for 25,000 points card last week. If I want to try doing what you did should I finish making the minimum spend first?

Based on how the rep relayed the info, she explicitly said things like “I see you have already met the requirement for the bonus and your points are pending”, “we are unable to modify/amend offers that are already attached”, “there is nothing else you need to do since you already earned the bonus points associated with your offer”, I’m inclined to think having met my MSR made a difference potentially. Obviously, this is pure speculation, but what @SouthFayetteFan said about a previous match he was able to get seems fall in line with this hunch.

With the 35K offer expiring soon, if this is the case, you may need to act fast and it still may be a ymmv situation unfortunately. BUT, with an additional 10K on the line, and no added spend, perhaps it could be worth accelerating the spend? OR give them a call and see what the response is? Worst they tell you is no, the original reddit DP @Lain posted and who I also on reddit that prompted me to call myself, that poster called 3x before getting the 10K. That person also met the MSR. Definitely stress your relationship with Amex (she herself cited my 9 year relationship; didnt even think mine was THAT long but I guess I did open my Everyday card back in college) and disappointment about missing out on the higher offer and rethinking plans to put more spend on it. Essentially, I don’t think there’s harm in calling based on the original reddit poster, unless like @gottalovepluto, you don’t want eyes on your account.

Ok, so I'm officially in "business" now... I started my Etsy account and today as a grand-opening present got instant approved for the SPG Biz! (they really do give those things out like Oprah, don't they?)
I was hoping I'd get a temporary account number I could pay a couple bills this week, but no go (too greedy?) I don't suppose calling in I might get one?
Also, I gave a SPG member number when I applied but in my online account it says "Not Available", is that temporary as they finish setting up the account or did something go wrong and they're going to be making a me new SPG account?

I can only answer the last question, but yes, your account will show up there in a few days. Both of ours did the same thing.

I never got offered the chance at a temporary account number but I called and chatted trying to get the card expedited but it was a no go. It arrived via snail mail just over a week after approval.

Great, I'm hoping this all goes quickly so I get the card soon and was afraid having to create a new account would delay it. I had a couple expenses come up early I'd rather put towards the spend then have to use another card.

Thanks! I can go ahead and meet the minimum spend in the next day or two; when does the offer expire? I don't mind if they look closely at my account; all of my spending has been for actual goods and services so I think it'll be ok. They may wonder why I put my kids' summer camp tuition on a business card but I doubt they'll question it. I've only been with AmEx for about five years, but maybe that's long enough. I am a little concerned about the fact that I just got a the AmEx Biz Gold in mid-January and then the SPG Business in February. If I call and complain about missing out on the points offer and they see this they may think I'm in it just for the points (which would be true). I don't know if that could stir up any trouble or not. But I doubt there is much they would do. I mean, I've spent almost $10,000 with them in two months.

tell me if I'm crazy....(I know you all will!) am I the only only cc 'churner' (small time) that saves up spg points specifically for WDW trips? I keep reading all the ways that peeps on here transfer/use their spg hoard.... but no matter how I try,I can't seem to do anything except save for the trips I figure I'll be taking over the next 3 or so years..... is this shortsighted? I'm doing this based on the assumption that I will still be able to use those points at swolphin for the foreseeable future, even tho they say 'welcome to Marriott' on the hotel tv channel......(it used to say welcome to sheraton I think) and I'm actually considering buying a few more on sale, even tho I don't plan to use them for at least a couple of years? Let me say here, I love traveling to different places, but a stay at the swolphin just feels like a relaxing visit without having to worry about any details.....(I tend to use other accumulated reward for other places to visit)
Me! Just returned from stay at Dolphin. Wanted to book for next year, but booking not open yet. I know the value of SPG points but to me they mean free trip to WDW.

Its been a crazy busy week and I just managed to get caught back up on this thread. I just wanted to thank those that offered advice last week when I was considering a cash back card for my upcoming Disney trip. Fearing that I was too late to try for a cash back card for this trip I decided to try for the SPG biz. I am still not sure if I want to embrace giong way over 5/24 as @SouthFayetteFan put it or try to slow down with some business cards until I can try for CSR and CSP double dip in April 2019. Either way the SPG biz will give me time to think about it.
I got instant approval on the SPG (using a reddit thank you link). I called 2 days later to see if I could have the card expedited and they told me that it had already been shipped and told me it was sent to an address I had never heard of. They said that I had called on the same day I was approved and asked for a replacement card sent to another address. Then they transferred me to their fraud department who cancelled that card and express mailed me a new one to my correct address. They suggested that I change my email password, which I did but that was kinda scary. Just sharing so others are aware.

DISchurner fact...our 3 largest "page-view" days this year have been:

1) 2/6/18 - 248 views - the day the Disney Visa offer changed to $200 statement credit (+ $100 for referrer)
2) 3/2/18 - 240 views - the day after the increased SPG and Delta offers came out
3) 3/1/18 - 192 views - the day the increased SPG and Delta offers came out

It's no coincident that these major news days are also our largest traffic days. People are either updating their links, or (from the comments I see here) supporting other DISers ;) Also, in other news we are now up to 110 members :)
How do I join? Where do I go?

3/24.

Hit URs (over MRs) first due to 5/24. You or DH get a card and then refer the other to pad your UR take!

1) sorry idk

2) after. This way if you're denied because they've extended their max credit limit to you, you can offer to transfer from your other biz card. They won't allow you to transfer credit from your personal cards. Also, are there any retention offers on the Southwest biz? (hoping if I bold it someone who knows more than I might hop in ;) ) If there are consider feeling those out after getting your CIP but before you cancel the card in case you find enough value to justify the fee.

3) yes and no.
Yes: You are talking about pre-approvals. I'd recommend applying via the pre-approval link if you are actually ore-approved, anything else makes 0 difference.
No: Emails are not pre-approvals and neither are physical mailers, code or not. I'm just not sure if biz card pre-approvals show online or if you have to go in branch. To check if you have a pre-approval online look under "your offers" on Chase and if there is a cip WITH A GREEN CHECK MARK. If you have that mark you should apply through that link imho. If you don't have a green check mark you do not have a pre-approval (even if the card and bonus show) and should apply via a "link" as your approval odds are the same. You can also go in branch to check for pre-approvals but you must specifically ask to check for business card pre-approvals. If you get one in branch apply then! (Idk if you need a business banker for that.)

Sorry about your scary potential fraud experience...glad you got instant approval :)

I think using this SPG Biz card to "waste a little time" so to speak is a great plan. You're at a really tough spot being right at 5/24 and your next card is a very important decision.

That is NOT normal! That means 1 of 2 things imho.
1) An Amex rep/ IT system screwed up and sent your card somewhere on accident instead of someone else's.
2) ID theft BUT how would they know so fast? They would need to be able to answer all the same questions you did when you called in to get Amex to change the card destination... do you have credit karma and Expedia to monitor your credit reports? If not get that set up now and review them for any unrecognized info and set alerts. They will alert you to any changes on your credit report. I would consider putting on a credit freeze when you leave for vacation for peace of mind. It might cost you some money but the peace of mind it might give you might be worth it.

Set up online access to the card and enable every alert available as soon as it arrives.

I'd also call Amex again just to make sure they haven't opened any accounts in the last month or so that you don't know about if you didn't already do that.

As to your first question, after getting his CIP last May somehow a thief got a hold of his CIP number, his Reserve number, his birth date, and his social security number. They changed our home address and ordered a phone. I was on my way to work and got the alert our address had been changed to my email. At any rate, since then I absolutely think it is worthwhile on his card to have an alert on his card. What I have is a 90 day alert that can be renewed every 60 days. Kind of a pain but worth it for peace of mind to me. When you review his account on credit wise it is clear that before any account issued they have to hear from him on his cell phone (which is the number listed on the alert). With Chase we actually have a special code as well. Kind of a pain but worth the peace of mind. I don’t see it hurting his chances of approval but honestly we have slowed his down since then as it is a little scary.

I have two cell phones (one work, one personal) and out of caution I check all our accounts at least once a day. (Just mention I have two because that makes my paranoid proclivities a little easier).

I think they will approve you or not on the CIP the fact that you got the email won’t matter that much. Good luck!

Personally I think you should wait until your initial bonus posts. Then you can ask for more. I don’t know exactly why but my DH’s Amex Delta Platinum Business caught the attention of the Rat team from Amex and I had a horrible time getting them to give him the offer. They acknowledged the offer was attached but it was in a perpetual review state. It might have been because I started asking about the bonus too soon. I figure less eyes on the account the better! Even if you haven’t done anything wrong.

I had something crazy happen on my Walmart account last week. Got an email that an order was placed for a laptop for instore pickup and they’d email again when it was ready. It had some guy’s name for pickup person and my local store. I cancelled it and called customer service. She deleted all my saved payment info. I then got another email the same type thing for an iphone. I cancelled it and got my password changed. All that happened in less than 5 mins. I can’t figure out how someone local (I assume) got into my account. If the items were to be shipped it would make more sense to me. Glad I check email often!
