Do we think both will be able to be used? Like I could give DH one? I didn't add him as an employee...

Do I just call the regular customer service number?

Sorry, a million questions!! Appreciate you guys so much :)

ETA: DISREGARD. I figured it out :)

yes, yes, its okay, and YAY!! :]

I'm not sure why people downvote either. I'm guessing it's like you say! Not a lot of discussion in our reddit group. We try to keep most of the discussion here so it can benefit everyone.

Reddit has always had a downvote culture. At some point, you just have to ignore the upvotes and downvotes. Just ask your questions and ignore ppl who downvote. If its a legit questions, people tend to upvote. Another reason why people downvote is to hide information. There is a lot of people watching the thread, if a new thing is discovered, it would be heavily abused to the point where it gets shut down. A lot of people tend to withhold and downvote to discourage people from posting anything new. The daily question and daily discussion threads are great though. Post questions there. They do have a ton more people who know this game more than the pros here.

Is this different than r/churning? Every time I have asked a question there I get downvoted so I avoid it other than to read.

Yes, it's generally thought the downvotes are to make it harder for others to reach their "karma counts". I think I get down voted more for answering/asking a question in the daily question thread than anywhere else because of this exact thing, people will just go through the thread and downvote every post thinking it increases their odds of getting a referral, so ridiculous. But, I still like helping people out sometimes, and have questions of my own, so I check the thread every once in awhile.

Fwiw with regards to r / churning and those wondering about it... the Daily Discussion thread can be an informative read (I read it most everyday) you don't need to participate in it. But, there is aggression there and if you like reading about this without reading aggressive/snide comments r / churning is not for your reading list. I also like the Bank Bonus thread they run weekly. Not quite as informative as DoC but still useful for immediate feedback on stuff. Overall, Reddit is a handy tool for reading to learn about churning, but the group is not "nice" like the DIS.

Fuel surcharges vary from carrier to carrier and also depend on the destination. BA is notoriously awful for fuel surcharges, taxes and fees on award flight that go to or connect in London. Sometimes there are still fuel surcharges when booking with cash but it is already incorporated into the cash price of the flight. I still fly BA regularly to Europe but always book in first. I look at it as paying less than an economy flight and using the points to get an upgrade to first.

Oops...meant to reply to this as well. I'm so glad I'm not alone in my thinking--I feel the same way about BA awards. I know they aren't viewed as the best use of points by most people, but they have really worked out well for my family. They've been invaluable with my daughter going to University in England as the awards basically allow me to purchase one-way refundable (less redeposit fee) fares *very* cheaply. I can book way ahead and she has the flexibility to change if something comes up. That wouldn't be possible with a cheap revenue fare. My last BA flight for her was 16,250 avios plus less than $200 in taxes from SFO to Newcastle (it's about $100 more in fees the other direction).

I also think the same way about business/first with BA--the taxes and miles are still way less than cash unless they decide to do one of their big sales again. I follow BA on Twitter just to be able to take advantage if they do. I dream of that $2000 RT in Business to Scotland fare :) I know people knock BA's business hard product, but I've had a good experience with them--actually better than my upper class Virgin experience. It's all in the plane!

I agree with reading the daily thread. I usually skim through each night before bed. My level of activity overall on r/churning has varied over the past few years. Lately I try to just try to post super helpful informative stuff every once in awhile, collect some upvotes, and keep my ability to post on the referrals.

That's what I have noticed to. Whenever I ask a card related legit question I stick to the daily threads and still get downvoted! I'm sure its for the karma count. I do like to read it every few days to look for new stuff and throw people some upvotes. I've never seen a sub as bad at downvoting as that one.

Be careful, it's addicting and can turn one into a plane snob :snooty: *raises hand pointing to myself* and DH didn't earn the nickname "plane princess" for nothing princess:

Yes, I have. Last Thanksgiving we flew Delta on a FLL-JFK-KEF round trip flight in first class. Delta wanted 700,000 Sky Pesos for the 2 of us :rotfl: I wouldn't spend even that many Sky Pesos for a flight. So we booked through the UR portal instead and paid with UR points which wound up costing 374,288 UR points total. I always compare the cost of miles vs the cost of paying with points and then make a decision. I just booked my flight out to Antarctica for later this year. There were no AA saver awards so the flight out was 150,000 AA miles each. To pay for the flight with UR points on a $3,484 one way flight would be 232,267 UR points each. So I booked that with miles and the fees were less than $50 per person so that was even better.

Looking at all your past and future travel plans ...recent cruise..and now planning Antarctica etc. You wouldn't
be in the market to adopt a full grown adult would you?

Cue "Cell Block Tango" music from Chicago ... all together now ...

He had it coming
He had it coming
He only had himself to blame
If you'd have been there
If you'd have heard it
I betcha you would have done the same!

How'd you pull it? I have tried the tricks and can't get it to pop up. It has been a month though...maybe I will try again.

I would like to know this as well. I got an offer many moons ago and never took it. I look around
for links but they are all 60k or 75k

I always wondered if people downvote to prevent from posting referral links. lol

Is it more than just referral links in this group, like advice or discussion? Thanks for answering!

I've had the same experience there, and now that we have such a thriving little community here I barely look at r/churning anymore (I'm sure that's the point of down voting people into oblivion). I much prefer to read r/awardtravel to get ideas for using my points.

Has anyone had Walmart cancel an order for an e-gift card using ChasePay? I just placed an order for a $50 egift card and paid for it using ChasePay/Freedom card. I've done this many times when there were ChasePay bonuses. I get my $50 gift card and then I got shopping at Sams Club.

instant cancellation? Its probably Walmart flagging it as fraud. I had this issue before, i had to call Walmart for them to push the order through.

Wait now I have a question: I have the 100k offer sitting in my offers window, too. But I was going to pass on it in favor of DH getting the CSR (I'm over 5/24 until later this year). If we currently don't have either card, is CSR the way to go? I figured yes because the travel credit is more flexible (we also don't uber much). No way DH goes for that high of an AF on two cards, so I've got to decide.

That's a hard choice.

If you're going for the CSR, are you and/or your DH under 5/24, don't currently have another "Sapphire" card, and have not received a signup bonus on a "Sapphire" card in the last 24 months? Then, if you are eligible for the CSR's 50,000 UR signup bonus, are you planning to "double dip" and also apply for the CSP on the same day to get that separate 50,000 UR bonus and get around the "one Sapphire" rule? If so, that's a combined 100,000 UR points on a $8,000 minimum spend in 3 months, which should keep you busy! Yes, the CSR carries a $450 AF, but the CSP's $95 AF is waived the first year. And as you already know, the CSR has a $300 travel credit that is very easy to use. I also find Chase's UR points much more flexible than Amex's MR points to use.

If the above makes sense to you, you may want to hold off on the Amex Platinum offer. Some people seem to regret it if they can't pull up the 100,000 MR offer again. And, if you get other Amex cards, that could decrease your chance of being targeted for high offers like 100k for the Platinum later on. However, there are tricks to pull up higher offers so there are still chances to get a 100k offer again.

Even though the Platinum comes with a $550 AF, it's offset in part by a $200 airline fee credit (note that this is much more restrictive than the CSR’s "travel" credit), $200 Uber credits (doled out $15/month with an extra $20 in December), Pre✓ or Global Entry credit, and Priority Pass and Centurion Lounge access.

Because the airline fee credit is a calendar year benefit, the best time to apply for the Platinum is in late November and December, so you have the opportunity to triple dip that benefit (worth a total of $600) for one annual fee ($550). If you get the card in December, you can utilize that benefit in December 2018, then double dip again starting January 1, 2019, and triple dip in January 2020 before possibly canceling this card and getting a refund of your second year AF. You'd also get $35 Uber credit in December, compared to the usual $15/month, which you can use towards Uber rides as well as UberEATS food delivery.

To utilize your airline fee credit, you have to select your airline, then make qualifying charges that are eligible to be credited back. Again, this is not like CSR's travel credit, which covers very broad kinds of travel expenses. Technically, Amex will credit you for only airline fees like checked and overweight/oversize bags, change fees, seat assignment fees, in-flight amenities, etc. But a lot of people successfully use this airline fee credit to buy gift cards with certain airlines. As of last month, I know buying Southwest, AA, and Delta gift cards in certain denominations still worked to trigger the credit.

Pay close attention to recent data points on FlyerTalk and reddit for what works with what airlines. You have to be very careful doing this because it's technically not how the airline fee credit is supposed to work. Often, you have to keep your gift cards denominations small and separate, like $50 or $100 at a time; sometimes the full $200 will work (check FlyerTalk). If you don't get credited, you can't exactly call up Amex and plead, I should have received the airline fee credit for my gift card purchases (nope).

If your home airport has a Centurion Lounge and you do enough traveling to take advantage of this perk, then a Platinum card might be worth having a place to go before and after flights. We find the Centurion Lounge to be a lot nicer with better food (and alcohol) options than a lot of domestic Priority Pass lounges.

Another option might be the Amex Platinum for Ameriprise. The AF on this card is waived for the first year (and the card is supposedly very churnable). The Ameriprise Platinum comes with Uber credits, access to Centurion Lounges, and 5x MR earned on flights booked directly with airlines or Amex Travel and hotels booked with Amex Travel; but does not include the airline fee credits, GE or Pre✓, or any signup bonus. Signing up for the Ameriprise Platinum will also probably lower your chances of being targeted for a high signup bonus on the other flavors of Platinum and Amex cards.

One last thing, Amex typically reports new cards to the credit bureaus at or about the close of your second statement, so you have about 2 months from when you open a new card where Chase, for example, doesn’t see or count a new personal Amex card against you.

The SPG Biz isn't reported to your personal credit report; however, a hard pull will appear as an inquiry. Too many inquiries could be a factor in denying an application or a shutdown, but I don't know how it might factor into Chase's "bust out" scoring.

I'd note that Amex did not do a hard pull for my SPG Biz. I've seen many reports that Amex may not do a hard pull on new applications for credit if they had already pulled your credit report recently on a prior application. I had last applied for an Amex card in February 2017 before the SPG Biz in October 2017, so a period of 8 months and still no hard pull. I'm thinking Chase has no idea I have a SPG Biz.

My husband got personal SPG Amex last spring, no hard pull. Hard pull though for Delta Amex Platinum Business. So seems pretty random. No hard pull for me though when got this same card, same history, in January.

Speaking of the capital one credit wise app is pretty helpful for checking your score and seeing notes. You don’t have to have a card with them.

Also as a FYI data point I called today and while no retention offer for capital one venture they did allow product change to quicksilver. I was just going to outright cancel but now that it has been 2 years figured I might as well keep the credit line with capital one since know no fee.

I found it after googling it - not the best website. Yes it was flagged for fraud - I was scared it was Chase denying it.

it could be also. but i got a txt from chase asking if it was me making the charge. I also noted with Chase of the big walmart purchases just in case.
still denied, google further and found it was likely walmart denying it. I actually went through chat, and they put a 24 hour notice on my account to allow purchases to be pushed through. After that, it worked.

hope thats the case for you too. Good luck!

Yep, I was able to chat Walmart who verified me or something and then I tried the order the next day and it went through.
ETA: @Lain beat me to it!

Anyone know with the new FAA provision about an adult traveling with a kid must be seated with that kid if the kid is under 13 law...does that mean if I book basic economy they will have to put me next to my 2 year old?

Edit: Strike what I said. This may have been the policy when we flew, but apparently not for United per a quick Google search. Please, others chime in.
