Stopping at bb after work for gc. Looking at both ibotta and shopkicks they both say they exclude gc. Any luck with them working or something else that will?

I just want to share a story about the value of having points in an emergency. My DH just found out yesterday that he has to be in the UK by Thursday for a family emergency. We live in NorCal, so this is not a convenient situation to deal with. Last night we were looking at flights and couldn't find anything for less than $2,000 out of SFO. We were feeling pretty deflated until I remembered that we had some Virgin-Atlantic points. I thought it was unlikely that we could use them for a flight this Wednesday, but I checked anyway. I was SHOCKED that we were able to book him a flight for tomorrow night and it only cost us 15,000 points and $150 in taxes!!!! He's able to get a flight back home next Tuesday on Norwegian Air for $350. So, with only 2 days notice we were able to get his roundtrip flight for only $500 and 15K points!!

We were lucky that we had the Virgin points, but I also remembered after the fact that I could have also transferred MR points to Virgin. With family overseas, it's so comforting to know this is an option. I know we got lucky with the a slow time of year, but if we didn't have the points then we would be out $2,000. Phew!

I got 300 shopkicks for gift card purchases (3rd party gift card, not VGC or Best Buy gc) at Best Buy last week.

Do you mind sharing what state you are in? Are you in CT? I've only tried 2 stores but they were cash only.
I'm in CT. DH had success in Waterbury, and then when he went back a second time they told him he couldn't use a credit card. They even showed him a sign attached to the register at customer service. Shelton worked for both of us.

I don't even want to imagine what your husband's family is going through, but I'm so glad to read that getting there to be there for family is something he doesn't need to worry about.

Thank you so much. This board is amazing, filled with so many generous and thoughtful people. I am so thankful for the great advice you and all the other DISers provide!

with the Jb cc, when do I get charged the AF? I don't see it yet on first months statement...(I hit the spend, but I'm assuming the AF doesn't count in that)

I was approved on 8/21/17 and the AF hit on 8/31. My first statement closed on 9/6.

A quick update...a few weeks ago @wendow was generous enough to share her RSVP code with me for the AMEX BGR 75,000pt/$5,000 spend offer. this offer is by invitation only. Well, I tried doing it online, then tried calling and it was a no-go. I could not transfer her invitation to myself. Instead, they were able to offer me 75K pts for spending $10,000 in 6mos. I will get 50K for spending $5,000 in 3mos, then another 25K if I spend another $5K within 6mos. I took the deal since 50K is the going public offer anyway and I think I can swing the additional 5K. The app initially went to pending, but was approved this morning. My first business card! Yay! I'm thinking of doing the Schwab 1.25x for cash mentioned by @SouthFayetteFan. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Quick help from all my favorite Disney and UR experts i just want to make sure I do this right. We check out of Disney Wednesday. If I book the current bounce back tomorrow but use UR points to pay for it I just will need to call Disney, book what and when I want on the bounceback,, and then call Chase UR tours within a week to transfer the reservation to them. Is that right? Thanks.

This might be of particular interest to @marsh0013 & @hsmamato2...

ShopRite is giving a $15 shopping voucher with the purchase of $100 retail gift cards beginning 2/4, which is the last day of the Chase Pay promo. A good stacking opportunity if you haven't already maxed out the Chase Pay deal. Here's the DoC article.

Thanks! I haven't maxed out my 10x UR yet so this is great!

I am so confused about how to use Ibotta at Best Buy! Do they have to scan something? I have made lots of purchases there recently and I keep forgetting Ibotta and frankly, am not sure how to use it since it is different than just scanning the receipt.

Yes, you select the offer then when you go to the store they scan the qr code at the beginning of the transaction.

I’m not CT, but it doesn’t even seem to be consistent by area. I got 3 different answers from 3 different stores. I asked at the 2nd store if the cash rule was for all Shop Rites (the first said cash only, the second said cash or debit only) and she said she couldn’t speak for all Shop Rites because they’re all independently owned.

I’d suggest calling before you go, as each store seems to have their own policy.

Thanks to Calypso I got into miles hacking a couple years ago, but now I'm really trying to amp up my game for a couple big trips so I've been following this board much more closely the past couple weeks. So much awesome info! I'm focusing on UR but I also do MR. I was able to use the 10x chase at BB for one $300 gift card, but I'd really hoped to find Amazon/Kindle gift cards at our store and didn't see any. I read that BB discontinued these cards... can anyone confirm? If it's store by store, I'll get on the phone!

So far I’ve gotten credit with ibotta and Shopkick fof using a gc to buy a gc. Also have gotten credit for paying with a cc and buying a gc.

Someone posted that you have to get it transferred within 30 days. I would think sooner than later but remember you get one chance to use points.

Have them scan your qr code before hitting the total button.

Make that two of us this am. I just called and got the approved message, but I went for the 75K + no annual fee :bounce:

Gave the 120K some thought, but we are in 2P mode, so have to manage the spend since we have a few more slots to go between personal and Biz (DH might do the 75K + no fee on this own as well) and already working on SPG Biz :-)

After being in 30 day limbo since applying 4 days ago, I just called the automated line again and discovered that I was approved for the Marriott business card! First business card for me! Thanks to everyone here for the help- time to get started on my spending!

were you guys able to get your card expedited? I called but they told me no dice. online DP shows a mix. some got it instantly, some had to wait 7 days despite being expedited.
