I love credit cards so much!

IHG finally credited me the rest of the points from the Q1 Accelerate offers I completed. It only took 4 e-mails back & forth to finally get them all. o_O And my account still doesn't show the 3 nights from my Feb stay, but I'm not even worrying about it because I'll never hit 75 nights for the next status level anyway.

But, rewards nights were still available for the last 2 nights of our Disneyland trip in July so our hotel is all squared away. Now I just need to figure out the rental car. We never do traditional rentals (just Zipcar) so I really know nothing about the different companies/rewards programs. Any tips/resources? We'll be renting from the Disneyland area and returning the car to the San Diego airport.
We rented at the Alamo at Downtown Disney (pick up and return). Best rate I could find was Costco (Costco/Alamo was $3-4 more that the next cheapest but location of Alamo won. )

I am going to try applying again tonight for husband to get CIC. Any thoughts of if better to put myself as an employee now or should I just add later? I definitely want my own card but at same time I don’t want to raise any flags since I am putting it down as a sole proprietorship. Seems also weird that they want my SS# for it.

I'd just add it later. Small inconvenience, but I think also less risk of tripping up an application.

Got my flights for Food and Wine in October today.

Frontier extended their schedule (finally) and I fought their website for about 3 hours. Went through the process to buy flights two different times and the site crashed on me. Eventually I was able to make it through but of course my return flight cost $100 more by the time it was all said and done. So pretty aggravating but still cheap for 2 RT non-stop tickets at $278 total. I'll use my remaining Amex Plat credits to buy my bags... I'll be canceling my Plat next month when the fee comes due.

I used my Arrival + and I'm planning to erase this charge.

Ok, it wasn't just me who thought that :)

I saw the write up and the offer and then yawned.

It's pretty rare that I meet a card I don't like...and this my friends is a card I don't like...

Right! I feel the same way.

Just thinking about this new Barclays Arrival Premier - no intro bonus and a high annual spend required to make it even close to worthwhile. Is this Barclays attempt to reshape the credit card industry? I know Barclays has vast experience in the European credit card market where signup bonuses are miniscule compared to the USA. If this card has any success then it will surely tempt other providers to try eliminating large signup bonuses and would be the beginning of the end for churning.

Therefore, it would seem every churner has a responsibility to ensure this card falls flat on its face.

Couldn't agree more.

Threats also work. My DH is much better since I threatened him with coach while the rest of us fly up front. Seriously.

This is the threat that got DH to make his first recon call. :lmao:

wow!! you have this figured out!! I need to reread this and take notes!

Hi! I'd say enough to make it work for us which I am ok with. I think @SouthFayetteFan has links to a few of my posts that were helpful and informative to some here and still relevant today. I should have written down the post/page number the last time he linked them but I forgot and this thread was moving fast.

Whats the deal with the Cap1 cards? Never appealed to me, but is there some good reason to have a Venture in the mix?

It's not bad for the bonus if you have no other cards you are after, don't mind the 3 hard inquiries and need to diversify the miles/points portfolio.

Hi, guys. I'm sorry, I haven't kept up here for a while, since we were working on a couple big spends. Now we need a new card and I'm stumped, though. We were going to get DH the Bank of America Travel Rewards card, but he was turned down (w/an 820 credit score, so I guess too many cards opened). He's over 5/24, but I'm at 4/24 (will be 3/24 in June), so thought maybe I'd get the Barclaycard Arrival Plus now and then CSP in June when one drops off. Well, as you all probably know, the Barclay got discontinued. Sooooo....now I'm thinking I go forward w/Chase now. Is the double-dipping still a thing? DH has a CSR and I have a CIP - transfer points to his CSR. Was planning to get the CSP myself and transfer points to his CSR to redeem. If double-dipping CSR and CSP for me is still possible at 4/24, remind me how to do it and what the minimum spends are? Normally, both spends would be too much for us, but we have a Disneyland Paris trip to pay off in like 10 days, so if we can get a card in time, that helps. We also have a cruise we can pay down some if needed. Advice? Thanks in advance.

Yes as far as I know CSR and csp can still be double dipped.

Apply for the one you want the most then once it’s approved. Use another browser and apply for the other.
ETA I would use your DH referral for CSR First get approved then apply for the csp using a dis link. This way you get more points.
It’s $4k for each card so $8k total between the two

You can still double dip the csp and csr as of a couple days ago. You need to apply for whichever card you want most and be prepared to recon if you don’t receive instant approval. If you do get approved, yay!, open up another browser and apply for the other card. Most here recommend applying during business hours when recon is open (and verification dept).

@3 DD love princesses and @wendow already have you covered, but just adding this here with some handy numbers and link.

Start applying early during regular business hours of a non-holiday weekday in case you need to call Chase reconsideration or verification departments.

For personal cards, be sure you're not running afoul of the 2/30 rule: you can only have two applications every 30 days or you'll likely be rejected.

Apply for the card you want first. If DH has the CSR, do what @3 DD love princesses suggested and have DH generate a referral link for you to apply through: https://www.chase.com/referafriend/chasesapphirereserve. That's a bonus 10,000 UR to DH if you're approved. If you aren't auto-approved and perhaps got the we'll let you know in 30 days message, call the automated status line at 1-800-432-3117 to check the status of your application. If you still aren't approved after an hour or so, call recon at 1-888-270-2127 to get it approved.

After that first card is approved, use a different internet browser or an incognito window for the second application, otherwise Chase may combine the apps thinking they're accidental duplicates. If it isn't auto-approved, call the automated status line after an hour, and if you still aren't approved call recon to get it approved.

Good luck!

WAIT

So I'm slammed at work and went out to dinner and am just now catching up on churning news. The new Barclays Premier SUCKS. I'm was totally excited/hopeful for this card. It has a crap transfer rate and American (or Frontier) aren't transfer partners. The killer, tho, is that existing Arrival+ points don't merge into the account. So what is the point?

This makes me mad. Grr.

I don’t know if it is the same situation, but when Costco changed from Amex to Citi we were told way ahead and could keep acct and would transfer over OR cancel prior to that. I’d think they’d give the same notice to SPG cardholders but who knows.
I would anticipate notice being given here too. I just didn’t want to pay $95 now only to cancel in 4-6 months (and get no refund)

I seem to remember doing that - but I don’t remember which posts or when I did it haha.

That’s strange to me! We’ve been rebuilding my husband’s credit (bad divorce in 2004) and the C1 Venture is the first card he’s had in just his name. A few years ago, he couldn’t finance a candy bar!
Good for him (and you) :D Yeah Cap 1 is a very weird duck! Being so new to the game hopefully you’ve got a good shot! Sometimes people with lower FICOs but same stats were approved over people with higher FICOs and the same stats! r/churning never did figure it out!

Good luck!

It went through pending to 30 day review which isn’t unexpected given his fraud alert. I went with your advice and my inclination and didn’t put myself down as an employee. I’ve told him to be sure to answer if he can if there is an unknown number call in and have given him all the tips I can of what to say. Why he wants CIC and CIP etc. So fingers crossed.

My IHG came today. I also got an email from IHG to make a booking and stay by mid June and get 10,000 points. I know a lot of you who applied are frustrated with it but I don’t regret getting it. Been a long time (maybe 5 years) since I’ve had a MasterCard. Kind of neat. Also sad that I think it’s neat but hopefully you all understand...

I’ve had the Cap one venture card for a long time. I’ve kept it mostly to erase car rental charges. We travel a lot to our condo in SW FL and rent cars for the weekend. I usually find the better deals on Costco than anywhere else. I put everyday spend on the Cap One card when I’m not meeting any MSR. The way I look at it, each point is worth .01, but you get 2x points on everything. My annual fee is somehow still $65...although I think it is $95 for new cards.

If my needs were hotels or airfare, I would probably PC it to a no fee card and focus my everyday spend somewhere else. But again, that’s the beauty of this hobby, making the cards work for whatever your goal are.

Hmm. The 4th night free on award stays is appealing to me. I’m keeping these cards on the “maybe” list. If you hold the current card and then get the Premier card, you’d have 2 free nights per year plus the 4th night free & 20% back for $138 in AF (effectively $69/night for the free nights). It will depend on how much the free nights are restricted, i.e. if ALL properties at 40K or under are eligible or if there are additional restrictions like that list of exclusions that’s floating around that has a lot of properties in major cities on it even though they are at 40K on the chart. That’s what I’m really curious about right now.

Wonder what changes Chase is contemplating for the United card.....

I also got this. Not sure whether to do it or not...

Got checked in at the Sheraton San Diego Marina... girl at the desk told me no club access for business cards. Might just stop by in the morning and ask again.
