Where this gets to be 'good' is when you are trying to book the beach in July (Ocean City, Md - $300 plus for a Holiday Inn Express or $150 in points value) or New York City in December for around Xmas, etc. The Intercontinental Times Square is over $500 a night plus fees, 70K points or $350 all in for points.

Curious, is that HI on the boardwalk? We typically stay at the Comfort Inn on the boardwalk. I think it’s (the Comfort Inn) around Divison/1st. We like to be right on the boardwalk.

I just booked a last minute trip to Boston. Why oh why does it cost 3 times as much to leave Boston as it does to get to Boston? Looking at SW flights. If anyone has any tips for Boston let me know, specifically looking at Boston University and possibly Tufts. It looks like they are fairly close? Can I just uber from airport to both of these places fairly cheaply? Would rather not have a car.

I agree with the other person that mentioned the T, it's a great way to get around. We took it from Boston out to Cambridge so we could see Harvard. We took a cab to/from the airport because it was easier but took the T or used our feet for everything else.

I'm 1979. I read that we're the Oregon Trail generation, the few years that are really more Gen X than Millennial but don't exactly fit either. I can't remember all that it said but it fit so much better than Gen X. Plus who didn't enjoy floating down the river, buying cows or dying of dysentery.

AFAIK Hawaiian Air flies to both Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) and New Zealand (AKL). Not going to lie and say their first class redemptions are reasonable but I want to keep them in the mix just in case, especially since they are transfer partners for both SPG and Membership Rewards. Right now I have enough MRs for RT from HNL to SYD and after my SPG msr can add DH. Don't know if I will use them but nice to know they're use-able if that makes sense. If you don't have to fly up front then there are some really reasonable redemptions as well. With SW starting to fly to HI then that makes flying from HNL more reasonable at least to me (not that I have EVER flown SW but from the flash sales looks like other airlines are dropping their prices a bit in anticipation...)

BTW, I'm also planning on going in 2020 to either Australia or Fiji--flying out the day prior to my bday so I'll miss it (by crossing the international date line) and officially NOT turn 50! Nope, no birthdays here, move along...

Are you talking about the rewards certificates earned using your B.B. rewards card? If so, I could not use mine last week on a Disney gift card. System would not allow it.

I had no trouble using two $5 certs tonight. Used those, my savings code, and the last of my gift card (about $36) to get a $65 gc, paying $4 oop

OK I got the lightstream to go through. It did not auto populate. I learned my lesson after trying my mortgage (I knew going in that wouldn't work but wanted to try anyway). I did change the name a bit and added "attn: Cashier" to the name. Is there any playing around you can do for a mortgage payment for US Bank? I will assume probably not.

With the CIP in hand now I'm looking at Plastiq a little closer. I've googled to see whether there are any prohibitions to health care premiums, but I didn't see anything. It seems strange that these type of payments wouldn't be specifically called out, but just wanted to check and see whether any of you use plastiq for them. Also, anyone have any problems with club payments? I'm thinking about trying that as well for our country club but I was curious as to whether they would code as something that would be reimbursed 3x on the CIP. Is the only way to tell to do a small payment first (after the small MC payment to make sure it doesn't do a cash advance?). Thanks Lain for the great write up on dischurners.

I used mine this week and it worked fine. I don't even print out the certificates anymore now that they can click on the rewards from their register. The person probably hit the wrong button on the register.

Debating this same thing. Dh and I are headed to Orlando (no WDW) in April and we land late-11pm- and then we fly out early on our return. Really considering staying the two nights at the mco Hyatt but it’s 12k each night vs 8k at the Hyatt place. Never stayed at either!

ETA: I already booked one of our nights at 12k so I now have 12K in Hyatt. It would cost us more to pick up the car early since I booked it for the next day, when we were originally flying in. But we decided to go in the night before so I think for that night, staying at the airport makes sense and is worth the extra 4k points. Just not sure on the last night.

Another thought: could you do the cash/points option? Usually 6000 HR and $75.

And yes I understand hoarding the UR’s. I was going to use them to stay onsite at WDW again with the UR option but decided I would rather pay out of pocket. Use it to pay CIP spend and save the points!

I have the CIP but other than the 3x coding on plastiq, the card isn't real valuable to me. The categories on the CIC would be very useful. I had planned to PC my CIP to the CIC at 1-year but then @gottalovepluto got in my head with her suggestions of applying for the CIC, rather than PC'ing.
