I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Having a packing meltdown. Will I be okay with an Away Bigger Carry On as a carry on on Virgin?

As usual the answer is 'It depends'. I take 3 or 4 Virgin Flights a year (just got off one last night as it happens). I rarely travel carry-on only on virgin so have not tried anything as large as the bigger carry-on. I have used the regular away carryon without issue.

Traveling in premium or biz - I have never had my carry-on questioned.

In Economy, maybe 25% of the time they ask to see my carry-on at the check-in counter and attach an approved sticker to it. It is generally a backpack though.

Question for you Southwest credit: I did put my RR number on my application, I met the spend a few weeks ago, but of course it doesn’t post until statement closed date.

My statement closed date was two days ago and they show that they have zero pending points in my Chase app. And when I look on my Southwest app it doesn’t show the increased 80+ thousand as well. But in the Chase part it does say that I’ve earned that but they’re not active and they’re not pending.

I’ve met bonuses with Southwest credit cards for years and they’ve never had this kind of issue. Anyone else experiencing this right now?

I'll ask here b/c you all know stuff quickly:groom: US bank altitude, I just got the cc with 20k offer, now it's 30k, anyone know if they match? it's been less than a month

I have Vegas booked for Monday-Weds, but my kids probably need a family vacation. The girl would be okay going to the beach, but the boy hates it. It looks like Germany (FRA or MUC) might be possible. I know quite a few of you have been. We'd probably leave Friday night after work, and come back Tuesday or Wednesday. We can fly in/out of either. ChatGPT is suggesting to fly into Munich. Do Munich, then day trip to Austria (or stay) then hit up the castle and head to Frankfurt.

My kids have no preferences. My son thought Austria seemed cool. They are down for Architecture and castles and museums, etc. Not big into hiking, etc. Would I need to rent a car? Can we just train? I guess next up is looking for hotels as well. Any suggestions? I have a Marriott FNC about to expire. I can also cancel Cabo if there is a super awesome Hilton redemption to use.

Could have had Delta 1 to HND today, as well as China and Korea, LOL. I'm just crossing fingers it stays kinda open for this weekend
You won't need a car -- trains / buses / trams in Germany are cheap and extremely efficient. I'd stay in Germany -- there's so much to see and do, save Austria for another trip. From Frankfurt you can easily day trip to Heidelberg, Cologne and Rudesheim. There is a family pass for the train that you can buy, can't remember the specifics, but it's very cheap and gives you unlimited rides for 5 days, which covers the aforementioned locations. Neuschwanstein Castle I'd recommend a bus trip, that's what I did with my ds -- totally worth it. I stayed at the Westin Grand in Frankfurt and would def recommend it. Clean, well-located, nice staff -- excellent use of a FNC IMHO. I didn't use a chain hotel in Munich (couldn't find one that appealed to me in a good location) -- stayed at the Platzl and really, really liked it. It should be on the Chase portal. Breakfast there is excellent and it's a few steps from the Hofbrauhaus.

Marriott question. We are going to Boston next weekend and I have the 10% back offer on my CSP card. We accrue points under his Marriott account since he uses them for his work trips. Can I book the room under his Marriott account but charge it to my credit card? Offer expires on 8/15 so I was going to book a prepaid room. I will be traveling with him, but don’t see a way to add my name to the reservation when booking.
That would be fine. A word of caution about prepaid rates -- they are inflexible; I almost never book them unless I'm buying CFAR travel insurance. I would book the room, then call the hotel and have them send you a link to pre-pay with the CSP -- I've done this many times and never had an issue. While speaking to the hotel have them add your name to the reservation (you can also do this from the Marriott website).

@havaneselover your oversized Away carry-on should be fine on Virgin. While I've never flown with them, the only time I've had the size of my over-size carry-on Rimowa questioned was at JFK boarding an AA international flight (it fit in their sizer fine). Worst case scenario you have to gate-check the bag.

Got it. We’re premium to lhr and economy home. I can check two bags on the way there but only one at no cost on the way home. I guess worst case is I pay $75 to check the carry on on the way home. Hiking boots took up a lot of space in my medium checked bag.

I have had RR points take more than 2 days to post…it’s unusual but has happened.
Is the RR account number on your card correct ?

Yes, This is my second billing cycle on this card and the first cycle the points arrived right away. I'm glad to hear this has happened before. It's a bit unnerving to not see those 80,000+ RR either in my SW account and the pending points on my CC as 0.

ETA I answered my own question- the answer is no..... oh well.

Glad to hear this! I booked the Platzl (through Chase portal) for next year.

Hiking boots -- tie the laces together, then tie them to the outside of your backpack, or wear them there and back (get some thin, inexpensive slippers for the plane). Not sure if it would work for you, but I rented hiking boots in Norway (my hiking shoes weren't going to cut it on the hike I did through marshes and up the sides of mountains).

I LOVED the Platzl and would recommend it without hesitation. It's a traditional-style German hotel with an excellent breakfast in an amazing location with properly sound-proofed rooms. I'd def stay there again. Be sure to visit Dallmayr -- amazing grab and go food (for lunches, etc.).

I was approved for the Citi Strata Elite - I'm at 4/24 with my next card not falling off until June 2026. Only reason I applied was because i want those 100K AA miles, since we just used 120K to book our flights home from Norway.
DFW-OSL booked 4J Finnair tickets for 250K Avios (we will probably drive to DFW)
TOS-ORD booked 4Y Finnair tickets for 120K AA miles. (hoping to book saver flights home for 4.5K Alaska miles).

DH will probably apply for the Citi Strata Premier later this month.

My boss gave me some expensive hiking boots (Danner?) that she bought and they didn’t fit her so there must be photos of me on Pulpit Rock in those boots.🤣 but good idea on tying them to the outside of my backpack.

No issues getting the carry on onboard. But I maybe will buy a large checked bag and international carry on next time Away has a sale.

So far so good with virgin premium economy. I’m impressed.

I got an email from Air France today telling me they had a third party data system they use experienced a data breach that compromised some of my info. Says they got my first name, contact info, FB acct number, and the subject line of any service emails (which I don't think I have). Anybody else get the notice?

Someone recently asked about the SoFi Rakuten heightened bonus. I opened a SoFi account about a month ago when Rakuten had a 40K MR offer. I received my $300 SUB deposit and a Rakuten pts notice today that says they will be deposited within 10-14 days. That was a very easy bonus to earn. Just be careful about timing of opening and switching your direct deposits because they only give you a very short window to make your required direct deposits.
