I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

I got an email invite to app for a CIU, offer expiring July 7. I already have a CIC (old) and a CIU that won't be a year old until September and I don't want to overlap them. In September I have tax spend that would take care of the 6K. My spend at the moment will be low maybe through August, so I'd have to do gift cards but that's my CIC's job. The math tells me I'd throw away $210 in 1:1 Ultimate rewards that way by not putting that spend on my CIC, while using the CIU for taxes only cuts it by 1/2% (by not using my 2% card).

Chase scares me a bit but entices at the same time.

Thank you for the recommendations. My in-laws decided to buy me the Mother Lode for my birthday. Now I'm concerned that might be too big for what I was planning. I'll have to wait until it gets here and compare it to my current bag.

Another luggage question: We're going to Scotland in September, and I'm reading that taking a roller isn't always best since it's hard to lug around on the older streets. I definitely prefer it for the airport though. Do I need to look at a carryon backpack and/or checked duffel or backpack? Or are the rollers fine.

For people who are looking for a new biz card and who have been in AmEx pop-up jail, you might want to look at DoC's post from a day or two ago--there are NLL offers for the three Delta cards that actually worked for me (got approved for the Delta Gold Biz after a year or so of getting the pop-up jail language).
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!!!! I needed more Delta points but always in Pop Up Jail. Had previously changed my last Delta Biz Gold to Platinum, and now they won't allow you to change Delta Plat Biz back to Gold. So, applied and instant approval. Now, I can cancel the Plat next time the annual fee is due, since I have the Gold Again!!!

DH just got this card in January. Does anyone know if he can get another one while still holding one?

My wife and I were both approved today and we each have another as well. Going to cancel our first ones next month to save the annual fee.

Thanks! Just applied for DH and he was instantly approved also. Yeah!! Just had DS apply and he was approved. Now going to have DD apply also. Rack up the Delta points as we have been flying them more lately.

So sad I'm doing a spend and can't get more dl miles.

How much will you be travelling the streets with your suitcase? My experience. I heard the same thing for Europe (Italy) so I got the MotherLode. I packed like I was going to Italy and tried walking around my house with it. OMG for this 60 y.o. it was insane. I suggest trying it out before you go to make sure it works for you fully packed. For 2 weeks I took one carryon roller and a regular size backpack. Both were stuffed. I had a packable tote bag I used coming home to pack my souvenirs!

In Italy, I took transportation from the airport to my hotel and a taxi from my hotels to the train stations. So very little lugging my suitcase over cobblestones or barely there sidewalks. Sorry I can't speak for Scotland.

Mini trip report from Yellowstone. Returned 2 weeks ago. It was beautiful and we saw so much. We stayed at 3 different places: Mammoth Hot Springs Frontier Cabin 1 night, Old Faithful Snow Lodge Frontier cabin 2 nights and Canyon Lodge Western Cabin 2 nights.

We flew into Bozeman on Sunday, shopped for groceries at Winco and picked up 2 foam coolers. We bought stuff for breakfast & lunches plus some snacks. Had late lunch/early dinner then drove to Mammoth Hot Springs. Cabin was nice, small but cozy. Chose all cabins for price and private bath. This one was not fancy but clean. No coffee maker, no internet, bathroom with a small shower, sink outside bathroom so one person could shower, another could use sink to get ready. Drove through upper Hot Springs area, had ice cream & a little Internet) at the Grill saw a herd of elk then bed.

In the morning we saw more hot springs then just stuck to the Grand Loop drive. No internet, no GPS. Best $ I spent for the whole trip was the GuideAlong tour for Yellowstone & Grand Tetons. $30 (used UR in portal) and the app was able to tell where we were and best things to see/do as we drove along. I often couldn't tell where on the map we were, so frequently just followed the app and took any recommended detours/drives. Huge traffic jam approaching the Old Faithful area. Finally got to the hotel area but the traffic was nuts and it's all one way so if you passed where you needed to be you had to go out and back around. The Snow Lodge cabins were our least favorite. It was hard to find, behind the gas station, maintenance area and gift shop with gravel drive and tons of pot holes. Looked more maintenance area than guest area plus we were given incorrect info from the front desk at check-in so had trouble getting to our cabin. Cabin was low ceiling, very narrow. Beds were listed queen but were full (I have a queen at home) and were against the wall so one person had to climb out the end or over the other person to get in/out. There was a table and coffee maker here which was a bonus. 2 nights here exploring the area and covered more ground than expected so decided to take the opportunity to see Grand Tetons as well.

Grand Tetons were beautiful, postcard stunning. Used the GuideAlong app for this as well. Just drove straight down to Jackson and back. Hit lots of traffic and construction in Jackson so by the time we headed back north it was raining and close to 7 pm. We made it back before dark but everything was closed so we had difficulty finding ice for the cooler. The next morning my son opened the door to a bison strolling by so that was pretty cool.

Headed next to Canyon Lodge. Huge line for check-in but they moved pretty quickly. This is a huge resort with lots of building and cabins. Much more modern and had internet, multiple options for food and large cabins. The cabin was the only one with a tub, windows with a wooded view, Internet!, a table and chairs, coffee maker, dresser. It was our favorite but also 2x the price of the others. The canyon was lovely, we saw a brown bear twice, deer, elk, marmots. Used the GuideAlong app again to Lamar Valley and back. Saw a herd of bison with lots of calves and a grizzly (mostly just the butt because there was a ranger making sure no one stopped and got out of their car.) Ate at the restaurant on site for dinner and breakfast the next day. By this time we were out of breakfast food anyway. We ate 2 meals a day from groceries we purchased and 1 meal out until Friday. On Friday we packed up and headed towards Lamar Valley again, the towards Mammoth Hot Springs hoping to drive Blacktail Plateau trail but it was closed. We ended up spending a bit more time at Mammoth Spring before heading out to Bozeman. Stayed overnight in Bozeman and flew home Saturday.
I was waiting for a trip report! YEAH!:-) Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip. Sometimes I think I over hype Yellowstone and worry others won't like it. When someone asks me which is my favorite park, I say Grand Tetons. Stunningly beautiful. Glad you were able to make it down there for a day.

Sorry about Snow Lodge cabins. There must be a few types. When I stayed there the cabin we (me and my daughter) got was just as large as the one at canyon area. But as you said, no view or nice area to see right at the cabin. I didn't have Internet in any of our cabins. Just the VCs and maybe the lodge/restaurant area in Canyon. It was almost 10 years ago. I'm sure things have changed.

I just went from no cards to 3 cards in a few days. New Ink Cash, and 2 new Delta Gold Biz Cards. All of them though you get 6 months to meet the spend. So, that helps!!

There's a thought. I'll have to see where I am with my ink and what the dl cards are and how many amex cc's I have.

My ink is 8k in 3 months so I can't divert anything.

Eta I have 5 amex cc, I'd have to cancel my dl gold biz to be able to try for it and I just paid the af because I knew I couldn't downgrade the dl plat I got earlier this year. Guess I'll have to wait until I can close the plat next year.

This is one of those that the rules are thrown out lol. The approval gave me my 7th active Amex card.

You can apply even if you have the Delta Gold business card. And because annual fee is waived first year, low risk if you sign up and don't hit the spend. But we can make $4k (x2) in 6 months work easily.

No that helps actually, thanks! We are taking the train from the airport to Edinburgh on arrival and then train again up to Inverness before renting our car. So I guess I should just look at the transportation situation to and from the train stations. Everywhere else we're staying we should be able to park on site.

That's great to know, I have to see where I'm at with my ink to fully decide.

I know I have abd spend I can fall back on to meet spend but given my final deposit is due next June I'd rather leave that in my back pocket and continue getting gc on a discount.

I was actually considering doing Delta as my next card with their elevated offers. I was looking at the personal though. The only upside to the biz over personal is it not taking up a 5/24 spot right?

DD just got the "We are reviewing you info" when applying for the AMEX Gold Biz. Could it be because she has never had an AMEX Card before? She has a few Chase Cards and Discover and over 800 Credit Score. Hopefully, she gets approved within the next few days.

Curious if it's your 7th active Amex credit card. Charge cards like the green, gold, plat don't count towards the 5 cc limit.

My rolling carry-on comes almost everywhere with me (weekend trips are backpack only) and I've never had an issue on cobblestone streets and I have my travel backpack on top of the carry-on. I always stay within a max 5-7 minute walk of a tube station; if you are a further walk it might start to bother you, but you can always take a taxi from a tube station to your hotel!
