I'm going to use my Hyatt card to buy a $500 VGC at Walmart neighborhood market, but we never grocery shop there so I'm thinking that the transaction will probably be declined for fraud alert, is there anything I can do to make sure it doesn't get declined?

Let's play a fun game called: WhICh cArd SHoUlD wE GeT nEXT? because we don't have a MSR right now.

To start things off: I have CIP from last April, and I have like 4 days left to either cancel or PC to get the annual fee refunded because DH ALSO has a CIP and we don't need to be paying $190 a year for the point multiplier. I'm not opposed to just canceling it, or doing a PC to a CIC, but I HAVE to call them to do it, I can't do it via SM which is stupid.

So cards I have:
a very, very old CF (from like.....2006, we are both AUs)
a 2nd very very old CF (from around 2008, we are both AUs)
a CIP from 3/2020 (this I want to PC or just cancel altogether
a CFU from 01/2021

DH has:
a very, very old CF (from like.....2006, we are both AUs)
a 2nd very very old CF (from around 2008 we are both AUs)
a CIP from 4/2020
a CFU from 01/2021 (this is MY card, but I added him as an AU since we are using this card in place of the old CFs, so I don't know if this counts against his card count?)
a CIU from 3/2021

It's "my turn" to get a card. DH strongly prefers no AF, but I'm not opposed to a small one if it makes sense. We are planning a spring break trip next year (cruise, hotel, and airfare there have all been paid with URs, and we just need to get airfare back at this point....sitting on around 90k URs at the moment.) Getting another UR card would be the easiest for me, but I'm not opposed to a different type of card altogether for us to split up the tickets, as long as there wouldn't be blackout dates because we are traveling during PRIME spring break weeks. AA and Delta release their fares today, and it looks like we are going to be waiting for SW, and continuing to hoard points to use when they get around to putting out their April 2022 calendar, because YIKES tickets are super duper expensive.....like almost as much as our 8-day cruise for 6 people expensive.

My first thought was a CSP, but I don't love the idea of yet another AF. Unless we PC'ed or cancelled both of our CIP, essentially trading in those AF for this one. I'm hesitant to PC the CIP to a CIC because that would sort of be taking away a future MSR, right?

CSR is out because DH will see the $495 AF and freak out, despite all the ways it gets credited back.

Ok. I was gonna go for a no AF amex to hold/use a few MR..... was thinking the blue everyday as mentioned here earlier, but now saw an offer for that in preffered, $95 Af gets me 5k more MR....(same 1k spend) then one more step up gets 45k MR with a 4k spend and $150 Af..... So I went from no AF to 'possibly an AF' that fast...how do you calculate the cost of AF vs. MR value overall? I mean really generally, no fancy cashout options planned, but thinking it might be smarter to go for more MR and AF for a year?

Wondering what you all think: I have the SW premier Visa. When I log into my SW account, I have a box that offers the 5% on all purchases made between April 1 & June 30. However, when I follow the link to activate the offer, it says not available for this card. Do you think I would have any success getting the offer activated if I call SW? Visa? Thinking of contacting SW on Twitter (don‘t have Facebook). Or should I just let it go? I did put in my Disney card info & it is eligible & activated on that card. But that doesn’t help me keep my Companion Pass.

If you have your account set up for text alerts, you’ll immediately get a text (or email) if the card is declined. This happened to me at the grocery store. I kind of panicked, but checked my texts while at the register, and eventually my email as well had fraud alert notifications. Through the text message I was able to verify the purchase and clear the fraud alert. I ran the card again and it went through.

This is what I would do, PC both CIPs to CIC/CIU (1 of each). You will lose access to the 1.25 travel portal but I would also apply for the CSP, right now it is a no brainier.
You would easily make $1,005 by using PYB.
SUB is 80,000 URs + 4,000 from MSR + $50 Grocery credit.
So that's 84,000*.0125 = $1,050 + $50 (grocery credit) - $95AF = $1,005. You really can't go wrong, then you would also have a support link for P2 to use later that's 15,000 URs.
I'm not sure if the AF is still waved if you apply in a branch, but you might want to look into that or just use a support link on DisChurners.

Quick answer

Cancel both CIPS via SM. Super easy.

Apply for either the CIU/CIC or CSP whichever makes the most sense for your future Chase plans.

The AF for the CSR is actually $550 😫

ETA: If you decide to PC your CIP like @becauseimnew mentioned you can apply for a new CIC/CIU and still be eligible for the bonus. Holding the card does not eliminate your eligibility.

My other question is, and I feel like I know the answer, but I’ll still ask:

We have booked EVERYTHING with the CIP cards. And if I cancel them, and covid runs amok next winter/spring, and we have to cancel our trip, where do those points go if I have cancelled the cards? To our general chase account?

I’ve had good experiences renting from people in a handful of FB groups I’m part of. I’d be happy to share the names if you’re interested.

That would be great. Thank You!!
Not sure of the makeup of your group or how cozy you like to get, but the Poly studio sleeps 5 if you can use the drop-down wall bed. My 11 yo still sleeps there.

And the two bathrooms (well, 2 sinks, 2 showers) are awesome!

Plus the Poly is amazing in general.

There will be 5 Adults - all Female. So the extra bathrooms would be great. Sleeping wise it would be too many people and not enough storage. So, 2 connecting rooms (if we can get) would be great. Always stay at BWV (which we love) but I think this would be nice for a change.

We own at both Poly and BLT. For May, it shouldn't be too hard to grab two studios at Poly especially if you are looking at SV since that's what most of them are. 11 month isn't hard to grab studios at Poly for the most part unless you're looking at the first two weeks of Dec.

Good to know. Thanks. At least I don't have to worry about having someone at the 11th month mark. I would rather rent from a person than one of the companies if possible. This gives us more time.

I had the Everyday, which I got for a balance transfer. Then I got targeted for the upgrade of 45k to a preferred. Not sure how often that happens, but it sounds like I got a lot more w/ that offer than a normal SUB. So I don't mind never having that card legit. At some point I'll PC back to the free one, but it sounds like I have to wait it out as to not piss off Amex.

I’m not sure what would happen with the URs....to be safe I would PC to a no fee CIC or CIU then if you had to cancel they would be returned to that card

OT - Leaving for Disney tomorrow. Very Excited. Staying at BWV 1 Bedroom. Sad that the nighttime shows and some of our favorite restaurants will not be open yet. But doing a do over next May - so already planning that one.

DS graduated from College this week. No in person ceremony, so that was sad. But we got to see him walk across the stage and get some pics in his cap and gown. Now only 2 years left of college for DD. I won't know what it is like to have the extra money. We have been paying for school since Pre-K. They went to private schools through 12th grade and then college. They did save up and paid for some college too - Very happy they will both be able to graduate without any student debt.

I would definitely do the CSP. With the highest sign up bonus we have seen plus the $50 credit it is a no brainer. It comes down to $95 AF - $50 credit = $45 fee for over $800 in points. You can easily cash some out at 1.25 to cover the fee. Then when you are done with that spend support P2 for same card and get the 15,000 support points in addition to another 80,000.

I would PC the CIPs to a CIC and a CIU. I hate calling, but it is super easy. Even had DH do it for his and he had no issues.

Congrats on the graduation! Sorry for the no in person ceremony. They are having in person ceremonies for DD that missed out last year but she refuses to come back for it. I am sad about that. We are also cash flowing college (combined 8 years down, 4 more to go!) I keep thinking we will have so much more travel funds when it is over!

One more, because I don't know if the sapphire series plays by its own rules like the ink cards...

Can i use one of my chase freedom cards as a support to the app for a CSP? or does it have to come from another sapphire card?

Aruba, here we come in July! Now Hilton or Hyatt? The club lounge is open at the Hyatt so that is appealing but we have a ton of FNC with Hilton so I could save the Hyatt points. Any thoughts?

I will be super interested in your experience. I have rooms booked at Hyatt in September but waiting on Covid return testing guidelines to be updated before grabbing airfare. We loved the property when we went many years ago.
