Can anyone help me understand the DoC writeups for the Discover card bonuses? I'm trying to understand the 'double the $50" at the end of the year... I can refer P2 from ine, so essentially $50 each, what is the doubling factor? It's confusing (or I haven't had enough caffeine yet)
I can't find the DoC article you're talking about.
Was it this one?
Discover Adds Clarity To Their Referral Bonus Signup System - Doctor Of Credit

From the Discover site: You each would get $50 one time (although you can add other friends up to 10 times).

542403

The only doubling that I know of, is the new card will earn double points for the first year. The doubled portion is credited one year after the standard reward is earned.

Thank you all for your help with this. We've found out today that in our area, basically only the GEs have a short delivery time. Everything else is a ways out, so it looks like we are going with a GE (which I really like and the one we decided on is made in the USA, so I consider that a plus).

We did call on our refrigerator, but it's a freon leak. I have saved the information on the class action lawsuit though and am definitely going to research it further. It's so frustrating. @Jax1023 Sounds like you've been down the same path...
I have GE Profile appliances that came with our house when we had it built 16 years ago and they are still going strong. I do need to replace my cooktop since one of the burners is malfunctioning but the other still work so it is on hold for a bit since I rarely use 4 burners at a time.

For those of you who have done Hawaii, what's the best strategy? Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott or something else I'm not considering? I had always considered it out of reach but now we have some airfare credit from my husbands botched work trip from early covid, and some AA miles burning a hole in my pocket so I think we can get there. I'm going to end up 3 nights short for Marriot platinum, but don't know if the perks would be worth pushing to get it anyway as we use it to stay at the Swan and free breakfast isn't something we use a lot at Disney. I've got some time and 2 player mode. Inspire me with what's worked for you.
We were supposed to be there for Christmas this year but ended up canceling. Our plan was 4 nights at Grand Hyatt Kauai (100k points), 5 nights at the Hilton Grand Wailea Maui on points and FNCs and 5 nights in Kona at Hilton King’s Island using a timeshare offer. The timeshare offer was the catalyst that we purchased in Feb just before everything was shutdown. I need to make sure they are going to extend so we can try again next Christmas.

We were skipping Oahu since DH and I have been there already.

It could be leftover from before when the RAF bonus was paid as cashback rather than a statement credit that it is now. When it was cashback it was doubled as part of the first year bonus. Couple years back Discover wised up and changed it to the statement credit instead. I don't know what write up you are looking at but you could ping DoC and ask for an update if it seems outdated.

Ok. I appreciate the heads up. How do I do that? Hello, I'm here to check in. I'll be back to check out but I won't be using the room. Sounds fishy. No? I mean... why would they even check the room?

LOL, in my case it's easy, I tell them the truth-I'm here from out of town because my father is dying of cancer and I need to use the gym and have a place to decompress. Then they add something to my file and knock on wood, no more confusion with housekeeping thinking I've not checked in or checked out early.

I think most bloggers just recommend being upfront and saying you're doing a mattress run or specifically saying you don't require housekeeping until check out (housekeeping was who/what decided I didn't check in-on day 3:confused:-the time I had the issue).

I'm sorry about your father. That's tough. I will tell them something like that (not that I think the gym is even open now). I'll figure something out.

The advice I have seen is to cancel the SW card 30 days or more before applying for another so the old card clears out of their system.
Not sure if that advice only applies to applying for the exact same SW personal/ business card or if you apply for a different SW card the time frame is less...hopefully others know
I posted here back in September about trying to cancel my current SW and reapplying a week later. They told me I could not apply for any other SW card until the acct has been closed 30 days. They explained that the card is technically still "open" in their system for 30 days in case you decide not to cancel, and you can only have 1 SW card at a time. Mine was a personal card and I didn't ask about business.

From what I have gleaned, it is a very difficult card to get unless you have a substantial relationship with USBank.

Hopefully a minor thing, but if you have a CSP or CSR those are much better cards to use for car rentals. The insurance offered by Chase on those two cards is primary, rather than secondary to your personal insurance like it is with almost all other cards, including the SW Priority.
Our refinance was just with us bank so maybe that’s why they sent dh the offer

I just used up my SW $75 credit and it shows that it's posted on my dashboard. However, it still shows as pending on my credit card. Do you guys think it's ok to cancel the flight at this point? I'd like the travel funds for later at a minimum and I believe that before December 15th, I can convert them into points. I don't want to miss that deadline.

I think that ship has sailed. Travel funds to be converted to points had to have an expiration of Sept 2022, which was the extension given before Sept I think? I know my recent travel funds from cancellations are not able to be converted.

Unfortunately the ability to transfer travel funds for points is only on travel funds that expire 9/7/2022

You should wait at least 24 hours, not sure if it's the same with SW, but if you do it within 24 hours with delta it'll automatically go back to you card rather than an ecredit.

I wonder why I had 12/15 in my head? Well... it's free travel funds anyway.

UGH. I drove to Staples early this morning to try and grab 3 VGC so I could be done w/ my Hilton FNC spend. NOPE! Both in my area are out. Grrrrrr.

My mom has decided to buy me a new fridge for Xmas. She's letting me do the spend since I've got the $5k to meet on my Bonvoy. My current fridge still works but looks REALLY rough. The freezer door handle broke off, and under the water dispenser is rusted. I have to have a side by side because of my crappy kitchen design. Any other style opens up into my stove (I use my Kitchen when I teach kitchen design in Arch...like DO NOT DO THIS!). Anyways, all my other appliances are white. And I don't foresee getting new ones, or needing new ones soon. Everywhere I look white side by side are sold out, unavailable and unable to even order. I'm not looking to go stainless but now I'm wondering if I have to. And just deal with the mismatched appliances?

WWYD? My stove is gas and white and working just fine. We got it when we got the fridge (16 years ago). The dishwasher is maybe 5 years old. Also white.

I switched over to stainless one by one..first the dishwasher broke...then the microwave, then the stove. I fanally replaced my fridge during my kitchen reno this year. It took 15 years all together.

I think if you don't mind and you're not planning on selling soon, mixing colors is fine. Switching as they break is the way to save money doing it all at once.
FWIW you may be able to find a panel for the front of the dishwasher to replace it with stainless if it has a white panel.

Well I guess all I needed to do was complain. I finally found a white fridge! I called my mom to ask her if I should do white or stainless. She has stainless. She agreed white is the way to go in my kitchen. So I'm happy I found a white one! I figure this fridge SHOULD be the one I sell with the house. I don't have plans to necessarily move anytime soon, but once my son graduates in 6 years, I might decide to downsize. I also "get" my mom's house which is a mile away when she dies. She has stage 4 cancer, but is kicking butt! I've been saying it took 20 years to come back, so we've got 20 more years with her. But I mean always in the back of my head is that I could be moving into her house sooner than later. She planned on giving me her house way before she got cancer again. And I always told her that was nice, but I didn't plan on moving there until I'm like 70, LOL.

So I do have to make decisions with the idea that I could be selling my house at any given moment, or as early as 6 years. So now I don't have to worry about buying SS stove/dishwasher that I don't need just to match, LOL.

Well since I struck out on VGC today, I decided to buy the $500 in Target gift cards on my Hilton Surpass. I bought them in $25 and $50 increments. My hope is the smaller amounts, I won't lose them. The kids can use them as gifts for friends too, LOL. But lets get real, I can easily spend $500 at Target, LOL. Now less than $100 to get on that Hilton card.

I'm kinda glad right now I didn't get the Plat Amex. I'm struggling on this $5k spend for the Bonvoy. I think I was at $1900. So I just added $1k with the fridge. So I have to spend another $2000k before the end of Jan. UGH. I guess $5k in 3mos is a bit of a stretch for me w/o doing some MS.

It's not too late ... the Amex Platinum gives you 6 months to meet the $5k MSR :D
