I lost my 1st 5 pounds!!

Yahoo, I lost my 1st 5 and I'm so excited!! Thanks to everyone here for all the great info and encouragement and motivation!

I have been cutting back on my carbs drastically for almost 2 weeks. I started out doing Atkins induction very faithfully for the first few days and have stayed under 20 carbs most of the rest of the days in the 2 weeks, but there were some days when we were out and I didn't stay under the 20 but I am still happy with how well this seems to be working for me so far. I can't believe how many carbs I was eating before. I have been a label reader for quite a while but I used to look at fat and fiber content, now I am mainly looking at carb content and sometimes I am really shocked at how many carbs are in some foods!

I started reading the Atkins book yesterday and it is very interesting. I also just ordered the South Beach Diet book through an offer I received in the mail from Prevention magazine. I am curious to see what the similarities and differences are.

I have been very busy lately and haven't been able to exercise faithfully but hopefully I'll do better with that starting this week! I would love to lose the next 5 pounds by the time I go away for the weekend with some girlfriends on August 15. Hopefully if I keep watching my carb intake and start exercising more I'll make it!

CONGRATULATIONS, CHERYL!!!

That is so awesome!!!!!! You are doing a great job! That new clippie looks so pretty on you. :) Isn't the first clippie change SO EXCITING!!! It's like you suddenly realize, "I'm really losing weight, I can really do this, WOW!" Good for you!

Keep up the great work! I know you'll lose those next 5 pounds (and then some) before your girls weekend away! What fun that will be too! :) Happy reading!!!

:Pinkbounc CONGRATULATIONS!!! :Pinkbounc I started out with Atkins the very same way!! I think is is a fabulous plan, and the closer you stay to the rules, the bigger loser you will be!!
Great Job and keep it up--It won't be long until you change that clippie!!

Congrats, Cheryl. That first loss is so motivating. Don't get too used to that clippie, though! Before you know it, you'll be trading it in for something even finer. :teeth:

WOO HOO!!!! Way to go, Cheryl. You're doing just great. I hope you are feeling proud of yourself, all of your WISH friends are certainly feeling proud of you.

Be sure and post to the weekly check in thread each week. That way everyone will be able to help you celebrate. The check in thread usually stays on page one all week. If you post your progress there, too, then no one will miss your successes.

Thanks everyone for all the words of encouragement and support! I am very motivated by this, but I should have read this before I cut up a watermelon for my DH and DD for their lunches. I ate some of the watermelon as I was cutting it. I am now very mad at myself:mad: and I hope that didn't blow things too badly! It smelled so good and I was just going to try 1 bite which unfortunately turned into quite a few bites. I guess that taste for sweets wasn't as buried as I thought it was. Well at least it was fruit and not a bag of sugary candy LOL. I now vow to do better!!

Too late to worry about it. Don't beat yourself up, the watermelon has been eaten, you can't change that fact. It's a very healthy food. I'll bet you did no damage.

Don't waste your energy on guilt, just focus on right now. Right now you aren't eating watermelon. See how well you are doing?

You are doing great. Onward and downward, sweetie!

It really is amazing how many carbs are in food. Until I found WISH, I never paid attention. I too, only looked at the calories, fat and fiber. What a wake up call. Keep up the good work.
