I like the MDE app update, but

Since the update, I can't make fastpasses anymore - it shuts down everytime.

Seems a lot of people on the reviews are saying the same thing so I'm hoping they fix it ASAP. We are heading to the parks this weekend and I'll be bummed if I can't make fastpasses on the fly.

(I've reinstalled it 4x - no go)

I must be slow today. Where do you find the annual pass renewal? My silver pass is good for another 59 days. We go again 9/22 and would be great if we can renew before we go.

I'm a pessimist who assumes that there will be glitches, so I generally wait before installing an update.

When the app is working, what are the advantages of the update, other than seeing room charges and dining plan credits?

I just tried on the app to see if I was able to book FP and I could. Are you using iOS or Andriod?
Hopefully, it's just temporary and it works for you quickly

Android 6.0.1 (April 1, 2017). I'll probably get a new phone in September or October. I'm just waiting to see what Apple comes out with.

Both, actually. If our kids were with us, I could test on their phones, which are all running 6.0.1, but alas, this is an adult only trip. Not that I am complaining. ;-)
