I leave in 6 days and don't feel like a dancing banana. My bag is all packed and I have my moleskin and Crocs by the door but given the hurricane and the suffering and the stress of my job right now, I don't feel like going to Disney World next week.

I know it doesn't take much, but what gets YOU in the mood??

Aww..that is sad. I guess that's why no one else answered you! It's a shame you are not in the mood..I can't imagine it!
Who is going with you? Do you have kids? If so...GET OVER IT! LOL! They'll have a blast...if not....JUST GET OVER IT! LOL!
No offense meant...just pull out your Birnbaum's guide and start re-reading about all those fun rides and shows!
When you get there....have Mickey give you a hug...you'll feel better.
COME ON..YOU CAN BE THE BANANA....BE ONE WITH THE DANCE.
HTH!

I kind of look at a trip to Disney as an escape from my normal life. I leave for disney in 10 days but with recent events my enthusiasm has gone down a bit. I'm sure that the day you leave and the minute you set foot in disney everything else will be put on the shelf until you get back home. I hope you have a great time!

I live in Lafayette, Louisiana. I am tired of the traffic, the long lines, watching the TV news.

I am so ready for this vacation, that I want to go somewhere magical to get away :cool1:

Would you not going on vacation change anything? I doubt it!

Dance baby

I saw a news story the other day in which they were talking to a family that lost everything in the hurricane. The news person ask them what they were going to do now. Their reply - WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!

WDW is an escape for me. We went just after 9/11 (the 16th to be exact). It was hard to leave, but once we were there, the stresses just melted away. Sure, the trip was more subdued than normal, but it was still WDW. Yes, there are others suffering, but what would staying home do to help? Just make you more sad. Go, enjoy, and when you return, give some back. Have a good time.

but I got some wonderful advice from some of our fellow Dis'ers, I took it to heart - and now I am raring to go!!!

Put on a Disney music CD or listen to Park hopper radio on your computer. Watch the Disney vacation planning video!

I know the news can be depressing, so many people are hurting right now. But, we do not need to add ourselves to the mix.

So let's all sing together!

I completely understand what you are saying or at least I think I do. In fact we discussed this on another board where I post.

It seems wrong to be planning such an luxury thing like Disney when so many are suffering so. But if you talked with those who lost loved ones, the first thing they would tell you is to go and spend fun time with your loved ones! Don't waste a second on material possessions. It the time with your family that is really important.

None of us are guarenteed another day or even another second for that matter. So to honor those who have lost so much we are planning a wonderful trip with as many of our family as we can gather!

We have given money and assorted needed material things to the local Salvation Army and it was shipped toward the people who need it right now. Other than leave my home and family and most likely get in the way there, what else can I really do? I have no special medical skills or disaster training or any labor skills that are helpful right now. I am going to take good care of me and mine so there are fewer regrets when our passings come.

If you are in the same shoes as me......breathe a huge sigh that you are fine and healthy and go love your family and yourself!

Oh yeah a bit of dancing is healthy for ones heart and blood pressure so just for me get up and boogie! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :cool1:

If anything, the recent events should be a reminder to enjoy what we have while we have it. I am really looking forward to getting away for some special time with my family. Even if a flood or hurricane or tornado comes and destroys everything we've got, which could happen any time, you'll still have good memories and time with people you love to remind yourself that there are good things in this world.

Look forward to your trip and enjoy your brief escape from reality!

By the way - I did decide to cancel one of our character meals and donate the money I would have spent to the Red Cross. If you're feeling "guilty", you could cut back on some of the extras and do something else with the money.

Not enjoying your trip to Disney isn't helping anyone, I think that in times of extreme stress and sadness, sometimes what we need is something completely unrelated to get our minds off it. Doesn't mean we still don't care, it just means that we can't stop our lives completely. So come on, dance dance dance

do a Disney search. Mouse House, Radio Buena Vista, Tour Guide Mike, and more. They always get me in the mood. Even when I'm missing Disney. Some of what they play are the music and narration of the actual ride. Sit back, close your eyes, and pretend you are there. I love doing this. Its my escape. Go ahead try it.

YAY! I MADE YOU LAUGH! WOOHOO!
So...feeling better then? :dancer:
And perhaps you are watching TOO MUCH NEWS. There is such a thing.
My little sister was in 9/11....worked on 93rd floor...last of ones to get out via the elevator.(she was the one in her office that suggested they get out NOW...it was just after the first building was hit) she was running as the second plane hit her tower...let me tell you, I know how depressed watching TOO MUCH NEWS can make you feel. If you haven't...donate to the Red Cross...that can be a very rewarding feeling...it's not to justify your vacation..but to know you helped in your own way.

OK..NOW FOR PURE FOOLISHNESS...YOU MUST DANCE!!!

Just wanted to say that I sympathise with your feelings, we leave tommorrow, and I'm more stressed than excited. Hurricanes, floods, gas prices, ect. don't make for a happy outlook. Plus business is difficult and uncertain right now... Anyway, I'm hoping that once we hit the road tommorrow my mood will lift. Just getting away should help. The kids are excited, but that translates into stress wich they releave by fighting constantly and being grumpy! grrrr- sometimes I wish we could go alone! Oh well, I'll probably be glad I brought them when we get there. ;) Oddly, the 1 year old is the easiest to deal with right now- she's just happy and oblivious to all the last minute stress.
