I'm planning our August trip.

I notice that a lot of you stay overnight in Travel Lodge/ Premier Inn etc near Folkestone before crossing through Eurotunnel.

What I wondered was....has anyone ever done it the other way? Crossed the Channel one evening, stayed the night in a cheapo place in Calais and then set off early early next morning for DLRP?

In February we set off not long after midnihgt and drove all the way there, but we did pay for it with tiredness on our first day. I don't really want to sleep overnight at Folkestone which is only about 100 miles from home - I want to get to France and then sleep for a while.

If you have done it - can you recommend an hotel?

TIA

We have stayed at a campsite in Calais but I dont suppose this is what you want.
We have also stayed at an Etap or similar hotel as an overnight stay in another area of France - Honfleur - but not on route to DLP. It was very basic but fine for one night. These hotels are found all over France and I bet there are loads near Calais.

Thank you.
I've just booked a night at the Etap in Calais for us. :thumbsup2

My DH thinks I have a Disney addiction now. But in addition to our May & October trips I am tentatively planning next Feb & May! We're lucky my parents live quite near Ashford which breaks the journey up for us.
Hope the Etap has comfy beds!

Hi,

for our first two trips we stayed overnight in Dover and then had a very early(and bumpy :scared:) morning crossing on the ferry .

The last two trips we have travelled down to Dover caught the ferry or tunnel and then stayed overnight near to DLP. The trip last May we stayed at the Golf hotel (10 mins drive away) and the trip in February we stayed at Hotel Cheyenne. We find this a much better option , as we could have a full first day in the parks, instead of arriving early afternoon with 2 grumpy kids and a grumpy DH!! Saying that now Dh has brought the APs he'll probably be planning on having an afternoon there as well as soon as we arrive!

Me and DH have agreed now that will always be our plan now, to travel as far as DLP and then rest overnoght in a nearby hotel!
