I know traffic is horrible between Christmas and New Year's and most people recommend using the bus system. Is it still necessary to use the busses if we leave for MK at 6:00 for the 7:00 opening? Will there be transportation from the TTC to MK running then or do we take our chances waiting on a bus to pick us up and take us to MK that early?

We are going to MK 12/30

Oh dear. You really are in for an awakening. There will be people who got to the TTC lot at 4:30 in the morning for that 7AM open. 6:00 is prime arrival time for that 7:00 open. That's not arriving early, at all.

Agree with Robo 1000% percent. Every road and lot will be nuts on 12/30, especially.

I was about to say, if you leave at 6 AM for a 7 AM opening you are late! Even when it's not Christmas week!

Why anyone staying on site drives to the MK is beyond me. No matter what time of year they go.

If you really insist on driving, I recommend leaving no later than 5:15. 5:00 or a bit before would be better.

I strongly recommend taking the bus. Be at the bus stop by 5:45.

Not exactly the same but I wanted to say I was similarly nervous on the 4th of July but I was staying off site so had no choice. I had heard that the express monorail might not be running that early and if it wasn't to jump on the hotel one and just loop around so I was expecting that but was pleasantly surprised that a CM jumped in after hearing me say this to my children and confirmed the direct was indeed running and away we went. Not trying to say the 4th of July is comparable with Christmas in terms of traffic (which we actually parked in the first row, we were about the 10th car in) just wanted to share that the monorail was indeed up and running plenty early that day for us to get to MK in plenty of time to get through everything and have a perfect spot for the opening show.

I stayed offsite one Christmas week and I have to tell you that the TTC was a nightmare. It should be better for resort guests since you'll be able to bypass the offsite crowd and take the monorail. I think if you plan to be at the TTC around 6:00-6:15 am is just fine. You'll be through security by 6:30-6:45 and ready to roll at 7:00 am.

And, if you take the bus, get on that early as well. We took the bus from BWV to MK on 12/29 last year and, because of traffic, it took twice as long to get to MK as it normally does because of holiday traffic and that was with them taking an alternate route. No matter how you slice it, traffic is bad that week.

I'd use the bus. The roads are going to be busy and you will find yourself sitting and waiting to get into the parking lot. Then waiting for the tram, then waiting for the monorail or the ferry.

What would be the average allotted travel time recommended throughout the property that week at any time of the day for any park? I know some times of the day will be worse than others, but, in general, how much time should we give ourselves to get around using WDW transportation?

One hour. Park to resort, resort to park, park to park, etc.

Ok thanks! That's not too bad! Thought it was going to be much worse. That's what I usually do on a "normal" week there just in case. Thanks!
Well that's the standard recommendation, and it depends on how you hit the bus timing. Christmas week, who knows. Buses will probably run more frequently, but the crowds are way bigger. My only Christmas week experience was in 2001, which was an anomaly.

Thanks for all the responses. We have only gone at low times and driven each time.
We will be taking the bus. What time do buses start running from Art of Animation with a 7:00 MK opening?

You might want to prepare everyone for MK at that time of year.

(No, I'm not kidding. This is really how bad it is.)
