can anyone give me some good ideas on losing about 20 pounds quickly?... I know this is not the way to do this, but let me explain...

I need to lose alot of of weight... at least 100 pounds... :earseek: I wanted to be down quite a bit by my 50th birthday, which is in October... I hope to go to Disneyland to celebrate my birthday... I gave myself a year to lose this weight, but, I kept putting it off... now that I have only 4 1/2 months to go, I would like to drop 20 pounds and then work on 20-30 more before October... I know that's alot of weight to lose in a short time, but if I can get about 20 pounds off quicker, then maybe I'll stick to trying to get off what I can before I go... I definatly won't be the size that I wanted, :guilty: but I will be able to fit in the rides better... :goodvibes I know it's better to lose slowly, but... I just want to lose some of it quicker... what I was hoping for is some ideas that you have found that worked for you that helped you to drop those pounds more quickly in times of a "pinch"... :listen: Thank you for any help... :earsgirl:

Seriously, I'm too conscientious to provide support for losing weight "quickly" without medical supervision, even with the understanding you've clearly expressed that it is "stupid." There really is just nothing constructive to be gained by anyone in going down that path.

I lost weight quickly, but did it with medical supervision. I'm the first one to stand up and support anyone who recognizes, as you have, the value of losing weight quickly (in terms of how radically it improves your motivation to keep with your weight-loss efforts, et. al.), but medical supervision is a requirement for safe "quick" weight-loss. There's no getting around that. Sorry.

Please let me know if you want information on safe, quick (and effective long-term) weight-loss. I'll be happy to share my story and my experiences.

Thank you for your prompt reply... I shouldn't have posted my question... it's not good to "fad" diet, but I was just looking for some ways or "tips" that might help the process go faster, but that's still good for you... I know about drinking lots of water and exercising, and that is what I'm doing, but thought maybe if there were certain "good" foods out there that peopled enjoyed and somehow it helped them curb their appietant (sp) and was more satisfied, I could sure use the info.... Thanks again... you are correct in your response.

Personally, I lost 15 pounds my first two weeks on Atkins. I made sure what I was eating was healthy (meat, eggs, cheese, 2 cups of veggies, and a few almonds each day), and I drank plenty of water and took multi-vitamins. The first two weeks you lose a lot because it's a cleansing time, where you're eating very few sugars/carbs.

After the first two weeks, I have gradually added in more carbs in the form of vegetables, fruits, and more nuts. I just stay away from processed flours and sugars, and high-sugar fruits like mangos or pineapple. I'm losing around 2-3 pounds per week. Nothing too fast, but enough to know that it's working and I'm doing it the healthy way!

Good luck! :cheer2:

Thanks Rhonda... I'll have to look into the Akins diet... it shoulds kinda good... I appreciate your time to help... thanks again... :goodvibes

Another option would be to look at the SBD for similar reasons. Most people have an initial burst of weight loss during the first couple of weeks while you are on phase 1. Then as you transition to phase 2, your weight loss will go to about 1 to 2 lbs a week.

Keep in mind that an instantaneous weight loss (such as what happens in the first two weeks of Atkins or SBD) is water loss, not actual body fat loss. True body fat loss is a slower and gradual loss...for healthy results that actually stay off, you're going to want to look at anything between 1-3 pounds a week. Faster weight loss, unless actually done by medical supervision, is not very healthy for your body and can actually send your body into a type of "shock" because you're not allowing it to get used to the change. This has a tendency to either stop the weight loss altogether (where the body reaches a plateau no matter how well in eating/working the person might be doing) or they gain weight back (I don't mean in terms of muscle gain). Keep in mind that it takes 3500 burned calories to lose one pound. This is why it's a gradual process. And another thing to keep in mind is that mabny times people don't start seeing actual weight change until 3-6 weeks after they've started their new lifestyle because the body is adjusting to everything.

Don't force yourself to lose up to 50 pounds by October. The point is to make sure you're living a healthy life. Rushing yourself through things can't wind up discouraging you instead of taking it at a pace that YOU can live with for your life. The point of this can't be so that you can fit in rides better, the point of this needs to be that you want ot change your life. Doing it for some short term vacation goal can wind up making it difficult to continue in a healthy lifestyle once the goal is out of the way and you're back from the vacation. This was something I had to learn too.

Doing it healthy promotes a more permanent weight loss.

I agree about the first few pounds being water weight, which is natural, but I asked my doctor about the whole first 15 pounds, and she assured me that the first 7-8 pounds could be water, but I was not initially holding 15 pounds of water! I was (and still am) in Ketosis, which shows that my body is burning fat, not just water. :flower:

Actually, it is quite possible for your body to retain that much water. Your body is mostly occupied by water, so you can have a lot of water retained in it. It is very possible that a person can lose 15 pounds of weight and have it ALL be water loss. And it's actually not uncommon at all with diets that encourage a first phase, such as Atkins or SBD.

I guess my doctor was wrong then. But either way, even if I lose 15 pounds of water, my clothes fit better and I feel better, and my blood pressure is down - along with the scales! :cool1: :cool1:

And, since those first two weeks, I'm averaging 2-3 pounds per week that are not just water! I've gone down 4 sizes and feel great!

Hi Disney Donna!
I used to live in Gilbert AZ--love that cow smell ;) !
My Birthday is in October also and I do the same thing every year about this time-- realize I only have 4 months to get that weight off before my B-day deadline! It usually makes me want to eat more :sad2: What I can tell you is that last year I had made some good progress on my weight and although I wasn't at my goal weight, I felt so much better that it was a terrific birthday anyway! I know you are concerned about the rides, but I suspect that a healthy 20 pounds that you could lose between now and then would be enough noticible difference that you would feel very proud of your progess and more comfortable on the rides.

Good luck and happy B-day to us!!

HI... Well, there's not much "cow" smell in Gilbert anymore... Gilbert is growing really, really big... when's your birthday in October?... maybe we are birthday buddies... thanks for the kind words and you are right... any weight lose would be great and should make me feel the difference... thanks again

Great job... I'm happy for you... you're doing great... water weight, or no water weight, it's got to feel better on your body not to be carrying the extra weight...

Thanks everybody for taking the time to respond... you all have been really helpful and I appreciate your suggestions... this is an awesome "board" with alot of support... Thanks again... :earsgirl:
