The real estate suggestions you've been given are good-but let me add one other consideration. If you need a job to live, have one BEFORE you get here. Unemployment down here is officially around 11%, but when you think about how many people are underemployed, working part time instead of full time, and how many have just plain given up...that number is MUCH higher.
I moved here a little over a year ago, and brought my job with me because I worked from home. I got laid off in July and I'm now working for a temporary agency in a position that pays about half of my former salary. I'm grateful to have a job that pays even that much given the climate around me, I do not regret my decision to move here and I'm not going back, but I do want to point that out to anyone considering a move.
