I know schools must have a dress code but this is a bit ridiculous...

I have to agree. I don't care for the shorts with the words across the girls bottoms. It just draws attention to that area. Personally i don't want anyone looking at my DD bottom. That stuff is not necessary in school. If you like those kind of things let her wear them after school.

The creation of a gang.

Three years ago five girls (seventh graders) showed up the first day of school all dressed in baby blue with "Angels" on their shirts. The vice-principal called the girls in and asked them why. Their response was that they were friends and wanted to match. These girls had never been in trouble before and none had any involvment with the local police. Within 6 weeks "Angels" vandalism started to show up in the restrooms. The girls all denied involvement. Stating that they were being "framed" by kids that didnt like them. Well...vandalism started to show up outside of school (around town) shortly after. The SRO and the vice-prinipal met with the girls parents. All the parents were argumentive and offended that the administration and the police officer would think their children would be involved in a "gang". (after all, they had never been in any trouble and had no ties to "GANG MEMBERS" ) The vice-principal informed the parents that the girls were no longer allowed to wear "Angels" shirts at school. The parents vowed to sue the school because their children were being discriminated against. About a week after this meeting, the five girls beat up a girl in the gym area of the school. They were all suspended, and arrested. To date, "Angels" shirts are not allowed at this school.

These girls are now in high school and many parents of incoming 6th grade girls dont think its fair that the school wont allow "Angel" shirts at school. However, once it is explained to them that there is a "Gang" of girls in our city who call themselves the "Angels". They begin to understand.

Afternote: These five girls now have a long history of harrasment, fights, suspensions, thefts, and drug use. Several have younger sisters who refer to themselves as "baby angels".

Did the school and the police attempt to intervien...yes...Did the parents want to listen...NO.

I wish parents would put more faith in the educators.

Call the principal and ask what the local "gang colors" are. Or call your local law enforcement. The answers may surprise you.

Did the school and the police attempt to intervien...yes...Did the parents want to listen...NO. The parents wanted to accuse the school and the police for labeling their children, for attacking the creativity of the childen.

I haven't read the responses but am sure from the number of pages that this got heated.

My kids school has the same rule. Also no t-shirt or hats with any band name on them.

I agree with the rule.
