Recently DH had to give up his company car and gas card, leaving us with one car and having to pay for his gas. Now we know how lucky we were, but now money is tight and we are down to one car. Because of the state his company is currently in, he has decided to go back to school. Money is now going to be tighter then it ever has. Ive seached these boards and online for a few weeks now and have been unable to find any legimate work at home jobs except for ChaCha. While ChaCha is convienant the money really does not add up at the pace I would like it too. Mystery Shopping would not work either, and the fact that we have a one year old son pretty much elimates any type of customer service position, because who wants a child screaming in the backround? Since we have one car I can not get a job outside of the house till we are able to purchase a second car. I am not looking to make a huge amount of money, but I am trying to bring it at least an extra $100 a week to cover the extra gas being used and money towards diapers. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Again, I know this has been asked over and over again but I am looking for ideas outside of customer service, mystery shopping and ChaCha. Thanks in advance everyone. :thumbsup2

I am thisclose (I hope!) to a work at home position. I applied for a job at a local private school as a bookkeeper. I have a finance degree, and work for a bank, so I have the background. They want me ten hours a week, work from home at my leisure. It is my DREAM job. I will keep my current part time position - that is 20 hours per week. Best part is - when the kids are off of school, I will be as well...no feeling guilty or having to take leave.

childcare--it could give you extra money and a playmate for your child

You can learn about work at home by reading sites like wahm.com and workplacelikehome.com.

I have two suggestions...

1. Are you crafty or good at cooking? Sewing/crafts can be sold to your DH's coworkers, your church friends, family, through ETSY. Several family members of people I work with sell everything from bread to pies to cookies. Also cake decorators can make quite a bit.

2. Can you coordinate your schedule with your DH and get a part time job at a daycare or as an assistant with an elderly/other homebound person? You drop DH at work and go to your position or vice versa..

Good Luck!

Sell things on Craig's list or ebay. If you don't have things in your home that you can part with, scour garage sales and goodwill. If you get to know even one area of selling really well (like computer games) you'd know what to look for and how much you could make for each game title.

I used to sell brand-name childrens' clothes on ebay. I'd make $400 to $500++ a week listing 20 auctions per week. Some of the clothes were things my kids outgrew. Other items came from garage sales and clearance racks.

Ebay sales are not as good as they used to be, but Craig's list is pretty good and is free.

A couple of things

Leapforceathome.com has been hiring quite a bit lately you are a search engine evalator. It is hard to get in though.

If you have writing skills Hubpages has opportunties to write and earn some money. Think of all the Disney reviews you could do there.

Work at home journal has daily jobs leads.

Or how about cleaning houses? Something you can do around DH's schedule, weekends, evenings. I cleaned for a friend of mine and her mother. You can make some money at it if you like it and and are willing to do it... I found out I didn't and am not :lmao: I've had many opportunities that I could have done more, it could grow quickly!! I do still have a small office I clean once a week for an hour... one of those very lucky jobs, get a lot of $$$$ for what I do!

I would say child care in your home would be a good option. It would only take 1 child and you could make $150 - $250 per week depending where you are located. If you take 2 kids, you can double that.

Either that or get something P/T in the evenings and on weekends in retail, if you work 16 or so hours per week, you could come at least close to making what you want - but of course it depends how far away the store is, as obviously you would be using more gas this way.

Thank you all so much for the replies. I have searched through WAHM.com before and I have not found anything that actually pays out. I do have a BA in Psychology, but for work at home positions that really limits my options. I will check out quicktate though and possibly see if anyone at DH's job is looking for a babysitter. I used to babysit my little cousin, but hes just going into kindergarten so that extra money is gone too. I love babysitting, however finding children lately is not that easy for some reason. :confused3 Thank you all again and happy holidays!

Please read the transcription folder on WAHM. There is a separate WAHM folder for QT. Note the reports of application issues, payment issues, software issues, and general lack of work.

I work at home as a transcriptionist.

I work three nights a week cleaning offices. It's not great money, but it helps. I'm sure if I asked he would let me work another one to three more. Sometimes I help with the houses he does in the daytime, he also paints and cleans apartments (new rentals).

I also babysit two days a week. Look in your neighborhood, that is how I was found. I babysat a little girl after school for a few days a week. She and her parents moved away, but before they left, they were asked by another couple in our neighborhood who their babysitter was.

I am blessed to have a neighbor who has her own publishing business and have done data entry during the day for her. Also, have done some transcription for her husband.

My mother in law gets her Christmas money by making pumpkin rolls and cookie trays. Most people sell their pumpkin rolls for $10, she sells for $8. Charges by the tray for cookies, forget how much though and she also makes candies.
