I know I can't make this happen

Room service is free for the most part, the only thing is, tip the delivery person. Cans of sodas, alcoholic beverages, packaged items like candy, and popcorn are additional charges. Everything else is free.
I would suggest a travel agent who has actually been on DCL, (at least one classic, and one new ship) that can walk you through everything.

Okay i am glad I am picking up tips for next time thanks everyone

Yeah but you guys are forgetting that room service is not free my DH and I tired ordering a reg coke because they ran out in the beginning

??? What??? Room service IS free. A tip to the person who brings it is a nice touch. The only items with a charge are the same items that are charged elsewhere on the ship--packaged candy, canned sodas, specialty coffees, smoothies, alcohol.

They ran out of reg coke "in the beginning?" They restock the ship at the beginning and regular coke is free at the beverage stations. I've got to be missing something here. Ordering a coke in a can costs almost $3 per can with the mandatory tip included, but unless you opt to not go to the beverage station, I don't know why you'd order a can.

Places for snacks--Cove Cafe/Vista Cafe will have dessert type munchies in the afternoon. On the pool deck you can get pizza, hamburgers, tacos, etc. as well as healthier offerings like salads, paninis, roll ups, fruit, etc. There is ice cream. About 5, nachos, wings, and hot dogs are put out in the Promenade lounge and Diversions. You can also plan ahead and take a container of yogurt at breakfast to your refrigerator for later.

It sounds like your last cruise was miserable. Apparently you sat starving in your cabin, waiting for dinner and someone "charged" you for your room service food. :confused3
You poor thing! It's all taken care of! You only pay for drinks from the bar, drinks from room service, fancy coffe beverages and boxes of candy. Go again and stuff yourself silly! :thumbsup2

OP, what do you mean by your thread title? I know I can't make this happen What can't you make happen? :confused3

I NEVER order coke from Room service. Go up to the drink station and pour it for FREE. Do this after you've placed your order and save the drink for when the order arrives. That way you haven't paid extra just for the coke. I've never seen them run out of coke at the drink station. :thumbsup2

Maybe someone could list out all the ways the OP (and other newbies) can get food throughout the day. All the *included in the fare* places, I mean.

It would probably be really helpful to have a nice list, rather than a more scattered post?

I would do it, but I haven't yet been on DCL, and don't totally know. But it seems like it would be super-helpful.

I know I could request early seating but it is not guaranteed and coke fountain did not have coke in the beginning it was water downed

Breakfast--pool deck restaurant, sit down restaurant (names vary by ship). Goofy's Galley or equivalent will have yogurt parfaits and healthier options. Cove Cafe has pastries

Lunch--pool deck restaurant and sit down restaurant. On longer cruises, often a restaurant buffet as well (themed). Cove Cafe desserts. Fast food outlets hamburgers, etc. will be open all afternoon. Goofy's galley or similar will have healthier choices all afternoon (fruits, paninis, roll ups, etc.) Ice cream place will have soft serve.

early evening--snacks at Promenade Lounge/Diversions (or equivalents on other ships) + fast food outlets, Cove Cafe, Vista Cafe, ice cream

Dinner--pool deck restauant, fast food, scheduled dining
j
late night--snacks in nightclub area + ice cream

Hours vary--check navigator. Room service is basically 24/7 except last night and during safety drill. If you can't find free food on a DCL ship, you aren't trying. When in doubt, call Guest Services and ask.

If you book early enough, your choice of early dining is pretty much guaranteed. Book a GTY special at the last minute and you are likely stuck. As for the coke fountain, I'm sure they replaced the bag of soda syrup. It needs to be done periodically as 1 bag won't last the entire cruise of course, but if the crew knows about it its a quick 5 minute change and there's your coke back

You want to be POSITIVE:cool1: about your next cruise:hyper:

If they run out of coke, tell a crew member! I learned that when I was ten years old.

It is not guaranteed but you will know before you cruise if you have early or late. If you have late dinning they have an area set up for people who want to change their dinning. Just ask the CM who greats you when you board where to go for dinning changes. They should be able to switch it for you. If they cant you can go to one of the places kcashner mentioned.

Push comes to shove regarding soda, you can bring your own. I did that with wine. Stuck it in the fridge... It was kinda' awesome. Call room service at like 0early o'clock (0300 for example), have a Mickey Bar, and some soda.... it's a real vacation. No offense, you're making things super complicated when they're not. You'll have a ton of food, you won't starve, you will eat, you will have soda, you will have fun. Disney's all about the customer service.

Have you read the op's signature? May explain why things which seem obvious to the majority are not so obvious to them.

Glad you said this. Was getting ready to post it.
OP, I am still reccomending a Disney Cruise Line specialist TA (I love mine) who can walk you through everything, as I would hate for you to have a lousy experience (again) because nothing was explained to you.

I was hoping if we gave DCL another chance can we get first seating even if we are childless I thought I was going to die of hunger last time waiting for dinner

We have always been first seating, four adults no children.

Main seating may be preferred by cruisers with children, but it is not LIMITED to cruisers with children. If you haven't booked your cruise yet, request first seating. If it's not available for your cruise, get on the waiting list, and try to switch onboard.

I know first seating is not guaranteed, but if you don't request it then you are guaranteed NOT to get it.

Soda is one of the things that is charged through room service. Food items are not, with the exception of packaged snacks.

I agree, I think the OP needs a good travel agent.

I usually keep the siggies disabled to save space, so no, I hadn't read OP's siggy. Sorry, OP.

Disney cast members love to help passengers. If you have any problems on a Disney cruise, they'll do everything they can to help you. That's a big reason why we love Disney more than any other cruise line.

We always request late dining (we are 3 adults). Gives us more time in the ports and more time to enjoy the afternoons onboard. We order room service around 3 p.m. and get a salad and a couple of cheese platters, or go up on deck and get a slice of pizza or a salad.

When we order room service, we tip a $2-$3 depending on how much we order. And one of us runs up to the beverage station for our drinks. Don't order them through room service because they are one of the few food items that is not free.
