...if they can help me to remain positive about staying on the program.

When I weighed in yesterday, I had not lost any weight for Week 2. I have been folowing the program VERY well and have only lost 3.5 pounds total in the 2 weeks time.

I told them about being taken off of my diuretic and that I HAD been pre-mentrual. I told them that I always show ketones in my urine every time that I test. I told them that my measurements were improving a little.
But from all that I read, and from what I read here, the 3.5 pound loss is very unusual for 2 weeks of induction. (4 pounds or less of a loss is considered "metabolically challenged" - but I have never had problems losing weight before, it was always sticking to a program and KEEPING the weight off that has been the problem. )

I told them that if things don't get better, that I may have to sit down with a plate of pasta with a rice-a-roni chaser.

But in the back of my mind, I DO some kind of faith in this program for some reason. Those sticks turn pink every time. But it IS hard staying positive sometimes...

WHOOP WHOOP....step away from the pasta...WHOOP WHOOP!!

Ready to eat pasta, BITE your tongue! I can feel and understand your frustration. Your struggle with not being a loser (:p ) is NOT the norm and I'll be very interested to see what the Atkins site responds with.

Stay focused, give them a chance to respond. If you will, pass along what they say...I'd love to hear it. Just don't give up yet, Beth. It's a struggle and it sucks...but YOU are worth. Please hang in there. ;)

I think you definately need to keep the faith. Give it some more time. Being taken off your medicine, and being pre-menstrual probably has something to do with it. Not everyone will loose weight the same way. Some people just loose it slower, and your body may have a reason for doing it that way. It may be more discouraging, but it's healthy. As long as you know you are making good choices, and feel better than that's what matters.

Try to remain positive! Keep up the good work.

Melanie

i totally understand how you feel...i haven't lost much either...i'm on day 9 and teetering on 4 pounds. but i have that slight icky taste in my mouth, so i'm sure i'm still in ketosis (i haven't bought the sticks yet to test myself).

i was advised to quit counting on the scale so much and begin measuring myself. it's possible that i have lost inches, but it's not showing up on the scale. the last time i went through a dramatic weight loss, i found that to be very true. i was losing more in inches but it wouldn't register on the scale. so i began measuring myself as of this morning! i'll check again in a week and see how i'm doing!

hang in there...i know it's tough! i'm having a heck of a time too!! it's not easy having to give up my favorite staples. but i've found some recipes to try and ease the transition for me. so far, they've been pretty good! i'm holding out for next week though...i really want some macadamia nuts but can't have them quite yet...i know that pork rinds and SF jello have been my lifesavers!!

Please post what they write back.

I too am REALLY struggling with induction. I am on day 6 and have actually gained 2 pounds and I still feel like cr@p.
I have not lost even a 1/4 of an inch off of anywhere (unless you count the hair I have pulled out in frustration [jk])

I know I am in ketosis as I have the strips (in the heavy range for 2 days now) and I have not cheated once. I even cut out my beloved Diet Coke so the aspartamene wouldn't be a factor ( I figure I can always add it in later).

I am ready to give up and cry (or eat a GIANT bowl of pasta) but I am determined to stick it out for the 2 weeks. I was in tears the other night at the possibility of haveing to eat any more chicken or steak (the only allowable foods I like not counting veggies). My DH made me some whipped cream with splenda and even let me lick the beaters. I can't tell you how much I loved him in that moment.

Well thanks for letting me vent and please do let us know what they say.

Thank you for your words of encouragement everyone. You all are just SO supportive! And it really made me lol "hearing" that "WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! Please step away from the pasta!" :teeth:

Gosh Mara, you poor thing. I KNOW that I would be pulling MY hair out too!
All I can say is to hang in there. For some reason I really BELIEVE that this program works. I am glad that you are committed to staying with things for the 2 weeks. I am sure that you will show a loss by then! :) {{hug}}

I will be sure to post what Atkins writes back to me. They said in an automated response that it could take 5 days or more for a person to get back to me. So guess in the meantime, I have to be patient and just keep plugging away.

BTW - here is the e-mail that I sent Atkins:

Good Day!

I have about 80-90 pounds to lose and I have been following the Atkins plan since July 7 - just over 2 weeks now. The first few days, I was losing weight steadily. In my first week, I lost 3.5 pounds. In the meantime, I had a visit with my Dr. and told her about being on Atkins. She was very supportive and seemed to have a knowledge of how the program is supposed to work. Since I was on a high blood pressure med that contained a diuretic, she changed my med to one that did not include a diuretic. It is called Lysinopril and is not a Beta Blocker, it is an Ace Inhibitor. I started the new med on July 13. In the meantime, I have lost NO weight although I have been following the program religiously. I have the ketone sticks and I have been showing ketones in my urine consistantly. I also was pre-mentrual until July 18 when my period started. I KNEW that I was not losing due to water weight - from hormones and the lack of the diuretic. But it has 4 days since my period started and over a week since I started my new med and I still have not lost any more weight since my initial 3.5 pounds (which I reached on the 4th day of Induction.)
I weigh myself at the same time each day - first thing in the morning. I KNOW that I am burning ketones and my measurements are showing a loss, but I am beginning to get discouraged. I am a member of a weight loss board and others who have completed their first 2 weeks on Induction have had such a dramatic loss. And I have not lost since day 4. It is getting hard to be positive. I am about ready to have a plate of pasta and a bowl of rice-a-roni as a chaser.

Please help me to convince myself that it is worth it to stick with Atkins and that it CAN help me to lose weight.

Beth

I only lost 4 pounds on my first 2 weeks of induction!! I was so good and didn't cheat at all. Dh lost 10!! Men

Maybe, just maybe, you are building muscle? You are losing inches - that's super!

Don't get discouraged - please! And if you absolutely must... I'll let you in on a little secret of mine... shh...

I found low carb pasta at a store near me!:bounce: It's still 10 carbs per serving - too much for induction - but I really like it for a special treat.

Now, if they come up with low carb Rice-a-Roni somebody please call me!
