I just warped my kid

when i was a kid, my parents played me war of the worlds on a car journey, scared the living daylights out of me, terrified to go upstairs by myself for months.

worst of all, it wasn't the orson wells version (which is terrifyingly creepy even now) it was the MUSICAL!!!!
the theme became a top 10 hit at the time, and i would run screaming from shops when it came on over the sound system.

i did live near Sevenoaks (where the pod crashed) though

When my son was 4, we went to visit a friend of mine who had a house full of girls (5 to be exact). They ranged in age from 5 to 17 and it never occured to me that they would watch anything scary.... until I walked into the living room to find them watching Jurassic Park! But, he has loved scary movies ever since then, so I got lucky. He likes movies I won't watch. You never know until you try I guess....

My mother would never have qualified for mother of the year, and that's putting it lightly. She didn't use babysitters and was a horror movie fanatic so I got hauled to the scariest movies literally since I was a baby (I'll bet the other patrons cringed when she walked in). I was four when the original Night of the Living Dead came out. I'll never forgot the part where the guy chants "Barbara, they're coming to get you," since that's my name. Let's just say I got desensitized to that sort of thing really quick, so sometimes it's not such a bad thing to expose kids early on. You might just turn them into Halloween Horror Nights fanatics (like me).

You never know what will freak out even brave kids tho'. I was fine with movies, but when I was maybe 5 or 6 my mother took me to the Chamber of Horrors in the wax museum that used to be in Old Town (Chicago). For some reason it scared the living daylights out of me and I ran out screaming. I still remember it and I still don't know why.

You never know with kids. My now 8 year old son has watched and read every HP movie and book. Not one bit of being scared...but when he was 3 he ran crying and screamin out of the living room when he was watching The Wiggles. The Big Red Car had broken down...he was terrorized. He would never watch that Wiggles video again. Now, when I play the same video for his 1 yr old sister he still leaves the room. Go figure.
