Oh my, what a mess!

Too long of a story to really share all the details, but that's what our neighbor wants. He ONLY wants 4 inches of OUR property so that he can put up a wooden fence for his privacy. OK, he wants to put this fence 4 inches into our property that runs about 400 linear feet long!   :earseek: ::yes:: :happy2: :confused2 :badpc: :space: :space: All those smilies pretty much sum up what I think of this whole thing.

This neighbor doesn't understand that we are not allowing him to do this. He isn't rational in the least, he has a drinking problem. He doesn't undertand why we won't agree to this! He keeps telling us that all he needs is 4 inches into our property. I feel like I have been living in a Twilight Zone episode for the past 3 weeks. This is too weird...::yes::

Why does he need/want to put it on your property?

I don't blame you for saying no. I wouldn't "go there" .........

I don't know why he would want the 4 inches either  I guess I wouldn't agree to it either... a bit odd to me.

What are the rules where you live?

I know here if it is not a joint fence between neighbours, which is put on the property line, then it has to be 6" on your own side of the line.

So for about 10 years the neighbours had 6" of our property. I took down the fence. They put up a new one 2 years later and now I have 6" of their property. :p They dug all of the holes in the same line that the original fence was in. Then the neighbour asked if that was all right with me. I said sure but it is 6" on my side of the property line. He had those holes moved pretty quick.

I don't think I would agree to the neighbours idea either!

Ann, he wants to do this because he has these huge arecas planted along our old fence as hedges and he is going to have to take them down in order to get his fence installed on his property. He doesn't want to do that. He wants to install it from our property and would take up 4 inches of our property.

These arecas are about 30 ft. tall and are violating city code, the height limit is 10 ft. tall. We aren't complaining about the heigth of the arecas, but the fence isn't going on our property. These arecas destroyed our fence and we had to take it down, not to mention the $1K+ that we had to pay to get them trimmed and cleaned up, they were all over our backyard. He doesn't care about any of that, he just wants 4 inches of our property, that's all!

why does he want a fence if he has a 30 ft high hedge???

Because there are some open spaces between the bushes and he can't have that.  He had his arecas trimmed on his side before we had our side done and the guys that did his job took off too much. He wants complete and total privacy and that's fine. He just isn't going to erect this fence on our property, he is going to have to do it from his.

I asked him where he was when the guys were trimming the arecas and if he instructed them on how much he wanted to be trimmed. He said that he was talking to the owner of the company and lost track of what the guys were doing.

He just can't have your 4 inches to erect.
