I switched my auto insurance to Geico. They FINALLY are covering us here in NJ. They came in $716/year cheaper than my current coverage.

SO happy to have found this savings now that we have a Disney trip coming up in a few months!

I LOVE Geico! We have had them for over 8 years and have been so pleased with their service. Unfortunately, we have had an accident since we were with them and they were more than helpful (and our premium increase wasn't too painful) Their roadside assistance and glass repair service has been wonderful as well!

Glad you could save some (Disney) dollars with them!!! :cheer2:

That's funny that you post this. We just switched from Geico to Allstate yesterday. We were paying $884 for our two cars with Geico, now we are paying $850 with Allstate.

Geico was cheaper than anyone else(for us) a few years ago. I guess it all depends on what state you are in and your vehicles and such.

Good going, though. I think it's a good idea to get quotes every few years to see if anyone if cheaper than what you are getting.

Congratulations!!!! I love to hear when people save money like that!

I do have to add though that I had to giggle when I read the post because of all of the adds that say one thing and then "I saved money with Gieco!" Thanks for the giggle on a gloomy day! :flower:

I know. I feel like the ad where the guy walks around all day telling complete strangers, "I lowered my cholesterol!" I'll try to control myself and limit my exhuberance to just posting on the BB. :jumping4:

Funny this should come up! I have been thinking about shopping around for auto insurance and have been tempted to call Geico... but I wasn't sure what their customer service was like. Knock on wood... we have never had to file an auto claim for an accident (only one claim when my car was broken into about 10 years ago), but I know from other people that our current insurance carrier is really good about claims. I didn't want to lose that just to save $25. Anyone else have any experience with Geico?? Maybe I'll have to post a separate thread..........P

Before I made the call for the quote I had a neighbor (1) and then a friend (2) tell me that they cut their auto ins. costs drastically by switching to Geico.
Since Geico just began serving NJ recently I was surprised to hear 2 such positive remarks so quickly. Then I got a thing in the mail telling me that the average person saves $200. So, I called expecting to save about that. Was quite pleased when it was much more!

I, too, was hesitant to switch bc. our 5 yr "anniversary" with AIG is coming up and I know ins. companies offer discounts to customers who are with them 5+ yrs. BUT doubt the discount would be over $700. So I switched.

I'm from NJ and I called Geico today as well. I was really shocked with how much they could save me. Is anyone familiar with what their annual rate increases are? Do they save you money the first year and then hammer you with a large increase at your annual renewl. Also how are they if you have a claim? The rate just seems to good to be true.

We got a quote from them a few years ago and it wouldn't have saved us any money.

We currently have discounts for long term, having house and cars with same company, good driving records. Geico couldn't match those discounts.

I would love to check around but don't think we could save anything becasue DH (D standing for dumb here) got two speeding tickets two years ago!

Costs aside, GEICO's service and claim processing have been terrific.
I shop on an annual basis, maybe every other year, and only once has another company been a touch lower.
We just rec'd our premium for the next six months and it actually went down. Including our 17 year old son's. (not that they're not still robbing him however)
BTW, we have our homeowners and umbrella policies thru them as well.

We were insured with GEICO several years ago and they came in very low but gradually increased our premiums so they were no longer competitive. This happened over a 3-4 year span. We changed to Progressive after them and are now with Liberty Mutual (who also does our homeowner's insurance). It's worth a call because any $$ saved is great. Just remember to continue to check with other companies if the premium increases seem out of line.

We've had Geico in the DC metro area for years. They have great customer service.. are really friendly, very patient (I don't understand half the documents they send us, and always call to have them explained)

Our rates are consistent.. and they've even gone down occasionally, like when it's been a few years since a speeding ticket.

I know DH had a claim a few years ago for his car.. but I don't remember the exact circumstances.. but I don't remember there being any problems or it taking a long time.

I'll say this .. and I know you guys will understand.. lol.. They always seemed very 'Disney-like' in their customer service.. they must really train their people very well. I've called them many times over the last 7-8 years.. renewal, payments, questions.. and I have never ever had a rude or impatient customer service person! I can't say that for the phone company, cable or others! They also are often on the lookout to save you money :) When you call, even if it is for a payment.. they will sometimes ask you a couple of questions and kind of review your account.. over the years they've lowered my rate several times that way!

..The only other company I've thought about calling is the one that says they will compare their rates, to the rates of 3 other companies for you.. but haven't ever gotten around to it.

I used Geico for years - probably around 20. It got to were the rates increased every time the policy was renewed. I ended up switching to Nationwide and got better coverage cheaper. That was about five years ago. The last time I renewed my Nationwide policy it jumped up in price quite a bit so I may be shopping around again!

I went through Progressive for a while, because my DH had a couple of speeding tickets and an accident on his report. Didn't think of it for a while, then decided to check out Geico. They ended up saving us $316 in a 6 month period, for the same exact coverage! I was sooooo happy!! :cheer2:

Haven't had to report a claim yet /knocks on wood; after reading this thread I'm hopeful that it will be a good choice if anything ever happens. /knocks again for good measure.

Not to sound negative, or like your mother, just be sure that you read and compare policies equally. My Dh and family own 3 body shops, so they deal with this stuff all the time. You might be paying less because your policy won't cover as much if you have an accident. It may not replace your parts with Original factory parts(OEM), you might get aftermarket parts that don't fit your vehicle as well. People get really irrate with DH when they find out, that they are not covered for stuff and that their car is not going to be fixed like they want it, because their insurance doesn't pay for it. I'm not saying that Geico is necessarily like that, just be sure that you actually read that policy and know what your getting! Okay, down from my soapbox! :D

Wow, I'm glad you were able to save so much! When I got a quote from Geico, it would have cost me as much extra as what you saved. They were outrageous here in MN. I'm glad they do good for some people.

Hi,
Just be carefull as yes they may be a little cheaper than what you are paying but coverages are not the same especially here in NY if you don't know what you are looking at. I did a quote for myself the other day and they only offer basic personal injury protection and no OBEL coverage. $50,000 does not go far today if you are seriously injured in a car accident. They have different levels for premium but if you don't pay attention - coverages are lower with each one you click and that is why your premiums are lower. Just beware and please make the best decision possible as Insurance now days is very important in the society we live in.

That was one of the things that made me hesitate to change my previous insurance; my former job was working as a liaison between several different insurance companies and their insureds, so I have a pretty good idea of what goes down during the aftermath of an accident. Sometimes it's not pretty.

So, I'm pretty careful about reading the fine print, and then whipping out the magnifying glass and reading between the lines too! ;)
