diamond from my engagement ring!:(

DH gave it to me about 19 years ago. I was eating lunch with my DSs just a few minutes ago, looked down, and it is gone. I have no idea when or where it fell out. I keep looking for it, but it could be any where from out in the snow to the shower to the vacume cleaner. I don't want to tell DH before Christmas because he already surprised me with 4 extra nights in WDW after our cruise and I don't want him getting me anything else.

Whah.......

I am so sorry! I really hope it turns up. I lost the pearl out of my ring one time. (Not expensive I know, but it had sentimental value.) About 6 months after I lost it, something tapped my foot while driving (I had sandals on). I looked down and it was my pearl.

For anyone shopping for a ring, I would recommend buying the protection plan from the jewelry store if they offer it. As long as I have my ring inspected every 6 months, the jewelry store will replace any lost stones.

Pixie dust and Christmas wishes

Do you have insurance on the ring? It's a royal pain to make a claim, but still... I do hope you find the stone and can have it reset.

From experience I can tell you there is hope! John and I were washing clothes after a vacation and I looked down and saw that my stone from my engagement ring. Of course I was devestated because we had been on vacation and I couldn't imagine when I had lost it. So we started digging around ON THE FLOOR through all the dirty vacation clothes and after 10 minutes or so found it on the floor. That was years ago and I still can't believe that we found it. But there is hope just look, look, look and if you can't I agree with AF about insurance. It won't replace the meaning but at least you still have the actual ring and setting so that you can replace the stone.

I have a friend that lost her diamond and didn't find it for almost 2 years. It turned up on her enclosed front porch. Here's a little pixie dust that you will find it.:wizard:

Good Luck in finding it. I have had 2 "diamond experiences" both ended well.

The first time I lost a diamond earring my now DH gave me. I searched EVERYWHERE for it. The lady that cleans my parents house found it about a week later (I only had the earrings for about 2 weeks).

About a month before our wedding I was moving to the apartment we were going to live in. I had all my stuff packed in my car and I was on my way to start unpacking. I looked down and the setting was empty. It is amazing that I did not get into a car accident turning my car around. I called my DH and my mom and my aunt. We looked for hours (emptying every box and bag of junk I packed). My aunt was walking down to the street to get something out of her car and there it was, just laying on the driveway.

So, there is hope. Good Luck!

Wow, sorry to hear that! I hope it turns up. But if not, you still have everything it represented...a DH of 19 years and your DSs!! If you look at it that way you won't feel so bad.

I'll try to keep this brief, but I also have a "happy ending" diamond story.

I too looked down at my finger one day and noticed my diamond, along with all the prongs etc were gone (entire setting... only thing left was band). I was at work, it was during the winter. I always had to turn my ring backwards to put on my gloves so I figured it was in the car or parking lot. I rented a metal detector (since the setting was gone) and went all through the snow in the parking lot at work and at our apartment bldg. Never found it, but we did have the "have it checked every 6 mo." jewelry store coverage. They replaced the diamond, but I was never happy with the replacement. Always felt that it was much smaller than my original.

ANYHOW........about 4 months later I was vacumming my bedroom one morning and heard a "klunk"..... I usually just keep vacumming, figuring I will suck up the offending item (penny, paperclip, etc), but for some reason that day I stopped and checked. THere was my diamond and setting, fully intact, no damage! I SOBBED!!!!!! Called my DH and my mom hysterical to tell them. More good news.... after I had the stone placed back in the ring, I went back to the original jewelry store to return the replacement diamond. They told me they had no policy for returning those items and I might as well just keep it!!!!!! DH secretly had it set in a pendant for me the following Christmas.

ANYHOW..... sending lots of prayers that you will find it!.......
Merry Christmas!!!.......................P

Hopefully you'll find it - but if not - did you check with your homeowner's insurance to see if it was covered? A good friend of my lost a diamond and was able to replace it through her standard insurance policy.

DH lost his diamond from his wedding band when we were in Russia. We had been having a string of bad luck there when he called to tell me that he lost it. At that point, I told him that it didn't matter. We had insurance for it and it was replaced when we got home.

Up to a certain amount will be covered with your homeowner's policy with no troubles. Anything above a certain amount probably requires a rider on your regular policy, but at least you'll get some reimbursement with your homeowners, or renter's insurance.

Thanks for the positive stories and PD!

I think WDWoldtimer made a great point!!!!!

I worked for a jeweler in college, and picked up a few interesting tidbits and thought I would share:

Gold is very soft and prongs can be bent back very easily. Always have your prongs checked and/or tightened at least once a year, but every 6 months is best. If your diamond is set in platinum, you have a little more piece of mind because platinum is more durable. If you like the look of yellow or white gold, then it might be worth it to just change the head on your ring to platinum, but keep the gold shank. Your diamond will be more secure.

Chlorine in swimming pools can damage gold slowly over time (It either makes it more brittle, which could cause the prongs to break off OR it slowly corrodes it...I can't remember which. I just know chlorine is bad). So those with gold rings, remove them before swimming. Platinum can be exposed to chlorine with no problems.

silverlily.....chlorine may have been a big factor here now that you mention it. We spend the summer in the water and I never take off my ring. It looks like the tip of the one prong may have snapped off.

Sorry, but I have to share this story. Several years ago (too many to count) when I was in the 6th grade, my mom came to school on our last day to help grill hamburgers for the entire class. When we got home she noticed her diamond was gone and laughed that she hoped some 6th grader didn't end up with a broken tooth. To make matters worse...it was their anniversary :( I felt so guilty even though I know it wasn't my fault. Unfortunately it was never found. I think she was hoping that if it had actually ended up in a burger that someone would've turned it in.

I hope you're able to find yours!

A quick prayer to St. Anthony will do the trick. Works for me every single time. Good luck. :D

Jillpie you read my mind!

My DS's go to Catholic school and they learned this prayer in Kindergarten: "St. Anthony look around something's lost and must be found."

They swear by it for things like Pokemon cards and sweaters--you never know!
