I just read a post about little girls dressing in Disney costumes on Formal night...

I am SO glad to read that a 10 year old was dress in a costume. After seeing the girls dressed up in the princess gowns this year, and after receiving the new Disney catalog with costumes in it today, I decided to order some for my girls for next year's cruise. They will be 9 (turning 10 on the cruise) and I figure it might be the last year they would do this.

Has anyone seen the new catalog? There is a BEAUTIFUL red Belle dress from the Christmas Beauty and the Beast video.

We are getting that and the Cinderella dress! OH, how can we wait a whole year! Had I know about girls dressing up like that for formal night we would have had them this year!

We were just on the 4 day cruise and we saw a lot of little girls dressed up. They were really cute. There were a few boys dressed up in Capt. Hook outfits having their photos taken with Capt. Hook. Really cute! Of course my DS 11 did not think so...

Hi Deb,

You are on the Jan 25th Eastern, right? So are we, and my daughter is turning 4 this Saturday. Too bad for me, I asked her if she wanted a princess dress and she said "no." She's a little on the tomboy side I guess. Although she does love Minnie, so I might try that route. Why can't I live vicariously through my kids? (grin)

Westjones, I bought the red Belle dress for my daughter, and it is gorgeous. The material is a red velvet for the hood and the top. There is a red cape you can purchase separately to. Unfortunately we are going on the Voyager of the Seas this May, so we won't be able to have her wear it for formal night. But if we were on DCL I would not hesitate to bring the princess outfits for the formals. The kids love it.

nedleycan...I just wanted to throw out the idea of checking your local library for videos. Our library has all types of videos including just about every Disney video. This has saved us tremendous amounts of money on rentals! Today my kids are watching Snow White and The Hunchback for about the 20th times!! This helps tell the rest of the family their favorites so they can get a few tapes for Christmas.

Barb,
I've seen pre-teen boys dressed as pirates on island night! And those neat Mickey ties they have are perfect for all ages.

Melissa,
One of my twins is a tom boy too, but she surprised me by saying she wanted the Cinderella dress to wear on the cruise next year. I told her if I bought it I expected her to wear it, and she promised. I think after she saw so many other girls dressed like princesses AND since she knew she had to wear a dress on formal night anyway, she figured she might as well be a princess for an evening :D .

I am living vicariously through my kids too and loving every minute of it! The Disney Cruise is the most magical experience and I am thrilled to watch my daughters' faces through out the whole journey! We are going on #4 next year and I am having trouble waiting that long. BUT I ordered the princess dresses last night. The red Belle dress in large is on back order, but it should be here for trick or treat night. I have found that the Disney costumes sometimes run out of stock is you wait too long and I was in LOVE with that red Belle Dress (and yes, I got the cape and crown too :p ). The Cinderella dress was in stock so no problem there. I can't wait to get pictures of my girls on the cruise next year all dressed up!

Hi Melissa,

Yes, we're on the Jan. 25th Eastern. That's great, my daughter turned 4 in June...maybe we can have them meet in the club! Mine's a bit of a tomboy too but she's actually kind of excited about having a costume. I asked her to pick one out last night and she has changed her mind several times already! Typical!

Also, a note for anyone wanting to order one of the costumes, I have seen some on Ebay as well. I just picked up a brand new (Wizard of Oz) Dorothy costume for my daughter for Halloween.

Melissa, you're so lucky to be living in Florida...I can only hope that a snowstorm doesn't hamper our departure.

Take care.

Deb

Hi Deb! :)

It's true that we are not likely to be hampered by a snowstorm in January, but they may close our schools tomorrow due to tropical storm Isadore, our town is flooded, we had a tornado sighting near enough to the school today to cause them to get the kids in the hallway and have them put their heads down, and we have Lili projected to head our way! So I don't know about luck... lol.

Since I couldn't get dd to go for a princess, I ordered the Minnie Mouse dress from WDW today (it was $5 more than the costume and much better made) and my MIL bought her the matching shoes and ears/bow for her birthday. So that will have to be Halloween costume/cruise/visit to WDW dress so I can justify it. :teeth:

Westjones: You give me hope for a future cruise! Maybe I can get her to go for it next time. I am sure we will be wanting to go again. The Belle and Cinderella dresses are darling. Lucky you! :)

Our daughter will be almost 11 for our seven day in March. After looking at the disney catalog she asked if she could wear a princess dress to dinner on the formal night. I told her no thinking that she would be the only one that would wear a princess dress. I am also worried that she might be older than most of the girls that dress up. She is very petite for her age and would be able to wear the larger size. Do you think that she is to old?

Much to my surprise our older daughters who will be 13 and 17 when we cruise even said they would dress up. I have not gave them an answer but can't help thinking about how pretty they would all three be together. They each have different dresses that the like.

If I were you I would let her! (Hey, even I was eyeing the adult 'Belle' dress for me :p -- well I was just dreaming a little anyway).

My one daughter, who is a little shy told me the day we got on the ship....."Mom, I am going to do all the things I want to do and not worry about what people think because I will never see these people again!" And you know what? She went on Mickey Mania with DH and they WON! She danced up on the 9th deck with Donald and Mickey, she did an interview in a commercial, she did everything she wanted to and didn't act shy! I wish she would always be like that!

So my point is (in the words of my daughter): You are never going to see these people again, go have fun, let your girls have fun, let them dress up. It is MAGICAL. I have my DD's dresses ordered for next year and they (twins) will be turning 10 on the cruise.

they love getting dressed up in grown up formal wear. Our DD will be 17 on our May 2003 cruise, and she will be wearing her formal from her Homecoming Dance next month. She and her girlfriend who always goes on the cruise with us, always both get a 2nd wear out of their Homecoming dresses. They always look beautiful and it gives them a chance to wear it again where no one has seen them in it before! :p

I can blame it on being a Grandmother, but my
youngest is going to be 11 months on our next
cruise and she is all set to wear her outfits on
her first cruise. I lov it, they all look soooooooo
cute.

Are you guys talking about the Halloween outfits that are in the Disney stores now or is there something I'm missing out on here? My princess will be 5 when we cruise and my son will be 4. What outfits would there be for a 4 yr old boy??

We went to DL 2 weeks ago and I saw several children in costume in the parks! A little boy was dressed to the nines as Captain Hook . . . I'd love one of mine to dress like that!!
