washer!!! I can not believe I didn't notice it, along with two of his games were in his shorts when I threw his shorts in the washer! My initial reaction was being angry at DS, lecturing him on how irresponsible he was and so on. He loves his DS. You should have seen the look on his face when I showed it to him. Well, the more I think about it, I'm starting to see it was not only his fault, it was mine as well for not checking his pockets. When I told this to my DH, he just snickered at me and said, well, yeah, but I wasn't going to say anything in your state of mind, lol. Smart man ;) . But c'mon, a DS in his pockets and then he throws them in his hamper? :confused3 I don't know. :confused3 DH said that DS should use $20 he'd been saving to put toward a new one and we'd pay for the rest. These are not cheap as I'm sure you know. I really don't know what to do. Comments, thoughts, suggestions? Thanks.

How old is DS? If he's 6, then cut him some slack.....over 10 and I'd be ticked too!

I can see that you feel some guilt over this, but I think it is misplaced. Your son in the picture looks plenty old enough to realize that when you put laundry in the hamper, it will end up in the washing machine. Unless it is your everyday habit to go through each childs pockets, I think this is solely your DS's problem. Maybe you could work out a chore schedule for him to complete? You can even buy it now and have him work it off. Also, if you buy the new DS from electronics boutique, they have a great insurance plan. My friends DS jumped into a pool with his in his pocket and they replaced it no questions asked.

I think the 20 idea is a good one. It will show him that you understand it was not all his fault, but he must take some responsibility and be careful with things as they are costly. He will begin to understand the value of money by doing this. :sunny:

Call nintendo, they won't replace it but may be able to fix it or something.

I would have to agree with this although only you know the rules of your house. I generally check the pockets of everything that goes into the wash with the understanding that if I find something it is mine :teeth:

However, this just applies to DH and the boys are only 4 and 6 right now (and nothing much of value in those pockets anyway :lmao: ) DH, on the other hand, paid me $65 for doing the laundry last week :teeth:

Oh..I feel for you. And I thought it was bad when I washed a pair of DS8's shorts last month & then found a Nintendo game in the pocket!! I always check his pockets but somehow that game got by. I wish the games weren't so small.

Remember that driving rain and flooding we had on the East coast a few weeks ago? Somehow DS's DS fell from whatever it was being carried in as we were rushing from the car to the house. DS found it the next morning, totally drenched. It survived. He says he didn't even blow dry it (which is what I recommended.) I would strongly suggest to you letting it completely dry before plugging it in or even turning it on. It might be OK.

He's 9. Old enough to know better. I'm 42. Old enough to know better that he knows better .

I think more of the responsablity needs to lay on his lap. My 9 year old and I go around and around about things left in his pockets all the time. If it is your responsablity to check his pockets because you do the laundry when will it ever become his? When he is old enough to move out on his own? He will never remember then either, because then he will be a MAN...j/k LOL!!

Ahhh, what a bummer! Hopefully it will work when it dries.

Otherwise a tough call, but accidents happen and maybe 50/50 would be reasonable.

PS - BTW, siggie pic of your children is very nice! :goodvibes

Our 9 year old son took his DS to Grandma and Grandpas and left it on the floor. He says he stepped on it but I think my FIL did. It is really cracked.
Still works but looks like the hinges are shot.
Sort of his fault, but we are going to see what we can do to fix it.

Thank you! I finally got the size correct. For whatever reason, I couldn't keep it from being gigantic even though I edited it down to where it should have been okay. So after that I've decided I'm not going to be changing it again for awhile! :goodvibes

We have that rule too...if I find it in the wash then it's mine, the best I ever did was $50 though so :thumbsup2 for your $65. OP DS is old enough to know better and mom should feel no guilt(but I think I would too) a 50/50 split is probably the best way to teach everyone a bit of a lesson.

Yea DD12 just traded all her X-box stuff in for a PS2 for Kinkdom of hearts .

Then the other night she dropped her DS in the cats water bowl for about 2 seconds I couldn't get the battery cover off fast enough and now the baclite is doing crasy things . I tried to take it apart I work on Boards all day long but the screws are just to tight and I don't want to drill them out.

I even tried to spray some deox in it and it got worse. So she is saving for the DS light.

After the entire X-Box thing I told her we would no longer be invovled in the gaming business and if she wanted something she would pay for it.

Oh and she has a PSP that I use more then her and a SP as well.

i too have washed an sp & a couple of games. grrrrrrrrrrr! :confused3
but it dried out & worked fine

hopefully yours will too! GOOD LUCK!!!

I agree with the other poster's a 50/50 split seems fair. He is 9 so he "should" know better but.....he is 9 and sometimes kids can be forgetfull. I know I am forgetfull sometimes. I did wash my DS's gameboy and 3 games the gameboy is still working my youngest uses it now and when the games completely dried they were fine too. My oldest now has a PSP and he seems to guard it with his life! :lmao:

Hey, this almost exactly what happened to my DS's DS game too.

About two weeks ago, I found his DS game cartridge in the DRYER!!!!! That means it was washed and then dried and GUESS WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It still works!!!!!!! It was the cars one that travels throughout the cities of the world.

I really thought it was washed up and broken but it's fine. I take my hat off to those Japenese workers. If it was Made in China -- it wouldn't work anymore.
