I just posted this on the transportation board

I say rent a car if you want to explore the Orlando area. The only reason I am leaning towards yes is that you are from out of the country, and 21 (and no kids) so it really depends on if you want to have wild nights out (which you should take a cab for anyway if you drink) or explore the area and how many days you have. If you're going for like 5 days, then no...if you're going for a couple weeks, then yes.

Most any company is fine for a cheap compact car but some of the companies aren't located in the airport and you need to take a shuttle over to them. It's not that big of a deal, but it is time consuming.

My opinion is not to rent. You may not be familiar with the rules of the US roads and you might get confused or even worse, in an accident (totally ruin your vacation). I say get a taxi to take you where you want to go. That way if you are out drinking, you don't have to worry about a thing.

If you are staying onsite (within WDW) then my suggestion is to use Disney transportation to and from the parks and Downtown Disney. You can always rent a car after arriving at your WDW hotel and return it to the airport after your trip. I wouldn't suggest it though. Negotiating the highways and late night trips around Orlando is dangerous if you are not familiar with the area.

ok, so now I'm definetly thinking about taking cabs to downtown Orlando! thanks guys
