I Just Killed a Bug, and I'm Sad About It

A bug was crawling on my leg as I sit here at the desk, so I swiped at it then turned on the light to see it so I could squish it in a tissue.

The guts glowed! It was a sweet little lightning bug!!

I only knew what they looked like at night, when they're outside glowing. I didn't know what they looked like with their wings folded in. I feel so sad! If I would have known what it was, I would have scooped it up and taken it outside to let it go. Poor little thing! :(

Say a prayer and ask for the insect to be blessed. When I was younger I put a glob of cream cheese over an ant. I was bored at the time. But to this day I *still* feel bad about it and wished I never did it.

I don't feel bad about killing roaches, they carry disease.

Well, he is off to be with his sweet Angeline:lovestruc

I swatted a fly this morning and quickly grabbed it by it's wing and tossed it outside in the dirt. But then I realized it was struggling so I went out and finished the job (in a paper towel, squished). I hate seeing anything suffer. Nuts, I know. :rotfl2:

My DH laid some of those glue traps for a mouse one day. My DD found it, all I could hear was her screaming. :rotfl: It's feet were stuck to the glue but it was trying to get loose. I don't mind snap traps but this was awful. DH brought him outside and scraped his feet off with a spatula. (So he said.) He claimed he was fine but I doubt it. (Picturing little mouse running off with no feet. lol.) Hopefully he put him out of his misery. I asked him not to buy glue traps anymore. :scared1:

I wouldn't feel bad.

Unless I invited you to crawl up my leg, you're going to get slapped. Be you a lightning bug or any other creature.

:rotfl:

Lightning bugs are really gross when they are seen in the daytime!

When I was a kid, I went outside at night to catch lightning bugs in a mason jar. In the morning, I went downstairs to pick up the jar and look at them. I screamed and dropped the jar because I thought they were so big and scary! My parents were NOT so happy with me!

I feel guilty when squishing bugs/spiders too. I don't even really like spiders as I have an unrealistic fear of brown recluses, but that aside I keep a jar in the house for catching and releasing into the yard. About the only thing I don't mind squishing are ticks, but that's because I have no tolerance for them possibly infecting my family, or pets.
