I just don't get this one!

According to the classroom teacher (I work in another classroom), the mom was told by the acupuncturist to leave them in for 24-48 hours. She ended up pulling them out in the nurse's office rather than taking him home. The aide did suggest that perhaps Friday afternoon appointments would work best for them since he would not be allowed at school in that condition.

I once had a co-worker who had severe neck pain. Her acupuncture needles were placed under the skin and left there for several days. She showed them to me once. You could see the outline of the needle, but they were completely embedded in the skin. The little boy's needles were literally sticking out of his scalp. An adult or child could easily grab one and pull it out.

How in the world would a child sleep?

People are getting more stupid by the minute.

Holy Smokes! I'm all for natural, holistic and alternative approaches. They work! ...but, HOLY SMOKES! I'm not understanding the thought process of this mother. I'm fairly shocked. :scared1:

Uh, yeah........that mom is nuts to think it's OK to send a child to school like that.

OMG!! Our dd is in special ed preschool, and her teacher would flip out, and have that child removed until the needles were removed, thank goodness!!

This would be so inappropriate in any school setting, but especially in a classroom where the kids often/not always, but often have zero sense of personal danger, OMG!!!

I'd think the parents are smoking crack. That's just stupid. Who let's their kids hang around with needles in their head?

How could any child keep needles sticking out of their head for a day or two? That is just bizarre.

Also, call me stupid, but what is the accupuncture addressing that O/T wouldn't!!!

Acupuncture works on a totally different level than anything the western world can think of.

I know that when I had the ONE needle left in my head, and I recently asked my brand new awesome fabulous acupuncturist about it, it was for focus. So I imagine...50 needles in "focus" meridians might do something powerful. Then again, I'm not sure that acupuncture works like that (the more the merrier), so maybe it's for a bunch of things.

It will be so cool to see any changes that result! They just need to do it on their time.

:scared1: Wow! Crazy, dangerous and stupid! I can't believe both parents acted as if the school was nuts for not letting him stay there like that.

I am all for acupuncture, I LOVE it (helped with my migraines and used it when I was going through infertility treatments), but there is a time and place for it and a classroom full a small children certainly isn't one of them.

Most states now have an accupuncture board much like the medical board that handles licensing. Accupuncture is real and should require a 3-4 year rigorous training program. It is usually a post graduate program with selective admission.

Just like with doctors there can be some quacks out there too. My state didn't really start enforcing these requirements until about 10-15 years ago. Almost anyone could just go "learn" how to do accupuncture by observation or a few hours of training. Some places may have grandfathered in some without real training.

I would never go to an accupuncturist without real credentials.

How was he supposed to sleep?:scared1:

Wow!

I think those parents are suffering from a severe case of tunnel vision.
